greenville sc: Young Woman With a Plan - 12/01/08 01:36 PM
Today, I was following up on leads from my web site and another from Craig's List.  I called a woman who had completed the form to search on my site and there was a problem with the phone number.  I then emailed her and asked her to call me or give me another phone number; not really expecting a response after the message on the number said it was temporarily disconnected.  She responded with her home number and we talked just just prior to this post.
This young woman will not be an immediate prospect, but will be in 2010!  She is studying  Internet Design, and working toward a degree … (9 comments)

greenville sc: Lunch at Stella's, A Southern Bistro in Simpsonville, SC - 09/15/08 01:43 PM
Last Friday, I had lunch with a Realtor Friend at a reasonably new Bistro on Fairview Road in Simpsonville.   I was in for an unexpected treat.  I'm not normally a huge fan of grits but after seeing this dish on a nearby table, I decided to give the Shrimp & Grits with tomatoes a try.  The presentation was really good on every dish I saw them deliver to the adjoining tables.

The dish arrived at our table (with some wonderful bread and butter) and proved to taste as good as it looked.  There was a sauce around the grits/shrimp & tomatoes that … (11 comments)

greenville sc: My Firemen/Rescue Squad Story - 09/10/08 01:55 PM
A post about firemen coming to a rampaging fire alarm at an agents house triggered a reminder of what  to me last fall.
One Sunday afternoon, I was planning on driving over to Spartanburg to take my two grandsons to a movie & Pizza. It was going to be a about 30-45 minutes time until I needed to leave, so I decided to shred some of the docs in my "shred box" I keep on top of the shredder.  When it gets full, I shred.
Just shredding away, getting a lot done, emptied the container once and started again.  Then, some paper … (7 comments)

greenville sc: Lipstick on a Pig? - 09/10/08 11:40 AM
Well, we know that both candidates have used this euphemism when talking about a female running for office.  McCain did it against Hillary and so did Obama yesterday, against Palin.
It could also be said that the Horns on a Bull are still just more bull were you referring to mail politicians, but women are too polite to do that.
It will sure be nice when all this bull is over.

greenville sc: An Offer Refused by the Seller's Company, Wasted Time & Money - 09/09/08 12:40 PM
Several years I had a home that was sort of off the beaten path, needed updating, the Sellers wanted to price it at current market value even though it needed the new carpet, paint, appliances, etc.  The house had country decor whose wallpaper and decor was way out of style, and the neighbors house to the right was not very well kept.  The seller's ccompany in Canada was buying the seller out and calling the shots.
We finally convinced them to reduce it to a reasonable price and received a low offer on it.  The person at his Corporate office in Canada who … (16 comments)

greenville sc: It's official . . . a rate drop as a result of Paulsen's move - 09/08/08 04:04 AM
From my Mortgage Lender . . . . good news . ..
Just as a barometer, rates did indeed open up with a substantial improvement. We are currently sitting at approximately 5.50% at the par rate on a 30 year fixed mortgage. About a .375 to 0.50% improvement over our close on Friday. If you have any fence sitters, this might be the catalyst needed to move them to buy.
Don't know about you, but I'm going to email my SEO in the event anyone wants to refinance now.  Any news like this is good news for all of us.

greenville sc: My Mortgage Lender source tells me. . . . - 09/07/08 12:25 PM
A  Mortgage Broker I work with just send me an email and he expects the interest rates to come down, possibly as much as 1% after today's announcement that the head of Freddie Mac & Fannie Mae were being replaced with leaders from the business sector.
In his words . . .but we should see rates reverse and start to come down with the now direct guarantee of the government.
Up until now, the government has only quasi guaranteed the mortgages held by FNMA and Freddie Mac. This has made investors nervous in our current market. Interest rates have continued to remain … (1 comments)

greenville sc: In Search of A More Balanced Life - 09/01/08 08:21 AM
How many times over the years of doing Real Estate have we wished we had a more balanced life while maintaining the needed level of real estate production?   I know, I do have a life, but a lot of it does revolve around Real Estate to the point that it is out of balance sometimes.  People who have a normal work week (whatever that is now) may not fully understand what I am saying. Then again, they may as people in our conuntry works longer hours than people in any other country in the world.  Many people I know who are not in … (12 comments)

greenville sc: Republican National Party Needs To Get Going With The Convention - 09/01/08 07:48 AM
Now that Gustav is calming down significantly and New Orleans was not a direct hit, the Republicans need to get the Show going.  While I respect the downplaying of events while this threat was eminent, it does appear the worst may be over.  According to the National Weather Channel, it is now a category 1 and heavy rains and possibilities of tornados still exists.
It is great that the entire area was not hit as hard as it could have been had hurricane Gustav sustained the earlier projected momentum.  If the levies hold after the worst of the rain is over, … (8 comments)

greenville sc: Balloon Fest Ends in Near Tragic Event - 09/01/08 04:28 AM
Just down I-85 south in Anderson, SC there was a balloon fest this weekend.  In a race yesterday, a balloonist/pilot plummeted an estimated 4,000 feet to earth and fortunately, landed in a tree.  He was seriously injured but not fatally which could have been the case had he hit the ground instead of the tree.   The tree cushioned his fall a lot; at least better than the ground where his injuries could have been far worse.  That could also have caused his tanks to explode so he is really one lucky man to have landed in that tree.  The news people said he was from Michigan and so was … (6 comments)

greenville sc: Little Doggie - 08/31/08 08:38 AM
This little doggie is the one I refer to as my "granddogger" as she is my granddaughter's dog.  Since my granddaughter is in college now, I am officially the keeper of the dog.  We're getting along great; she is blind in one eye and may soon be in the other due to Glaucoma.  We're using drops in the other eye now in an attempt to keep the pressure down.  When that quits working, she may need to have the other eye out.  Poco is such a sweet little dog, good as gold, well trained and lots easier than my cat, although cats are … (13 comments)

greenville sc: A New Storm Brewing - 08/31/08 07:53 AM
It appears the new Hurricane Gustav is now a category 3 and heading directly for the Gulf Coast.  It is almost certain that New Orleans will now get a huge dose of this hurricane, even if not a direct hit.  The States most likely to be affected are Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida will also see lots of rain and maybe worse.  Right now, it is category 3 with winds at 115 MPH that can strengthen and it appears now it is heading for New Orleans/Louisiana and Mississippi.  Some spin-off rain into our area would be welcome, however, our very first hope, … (0 comments)

greenville sc: Home to Sell and Home to Buy - 08/31/08 07:16 AM
A couple who have been clients of mine for years, called me late last week to see a home in a sub they like.  After seeing the home, we may write a contract (cc) and put their home on the market ASAP.  It is workable for them and we will see if it is still there when we get theirs sold.  They have completely updated their home so it should be a reasonably quick sale, given where it is and the schools with which that address is affiliated.  If the sellers are open to accepting a cc, we will write one.  If … (0 comments)

greenville sc: The House My Buyers Wanted - 08/31/08 06:13 AM
An earlier blog about The Nicest Email has a new twist.  The home my buyers wanted the most (which was under contingency contract) did close this past Friday.  Such a shame we missed that one but they could not buy it without theirs being under contract in NY.  We offered a contingency earlier and it was refused by the bank that owned it.  I found out the buyers paid $289,900 for it and it was listed at $389,900 - a $40,000 savings.  That is unusual but the property did close, so we must move on.  The contingency contract on that home … (2 comments)

greenville sc: Lucky Lucy Realtor Strikes Again - 08/31/08 05:56 AM
It was a very rainy day in her market that day, yet she felt she really needed to prospect and decided door knocking would be good to do as you would inevitably be invited inside out of the rain.  Ghastly, but she needed to get her listing inventory up and felt this might be the best way.
She chose a nice neighborhood, maybe 12-15 years old where older brick two story and ranch homes all nestled in a subdivision that is well kept and had nice trees and shrubs/landscaping.  The residents took great pride in their homes and lots and it … (3 comments)

greenville sc: The Presidential Race is getting interesting - 08/29/08 01:45 PM
I promise not to get political here, but you have to admit, the DNC ended on a high note last night and the RNC to begin Sunday hit a high note today by McCain's nomination of a woman for VP.  Very good move strategically for that campaign.  Her comments about the millions of cracks Hillary's campaign left in the glass ceiling made a good point also.  Complaints about her not having enough experience are not really valid as neither does Obama.
Whether you are a Democrat or Republican, it is finally getting interesting.  Thankfully, only 2 1/2 more months until the election.  Good … (12 comments)

greenville sc: Best email of the week! - 08/26/08 11:32 AM
This is the email most of us want to receive from out of town buyers.  I sure hope this offer on their home works out this time.  They have been through a few others prior to this one.  Many of our out of town buyers are waiting for a home to sell where they are moving from.  This couple has been a pleasure to work with and are really excited about moving here.
Hi Sheila,
Hope all's well with you and your family.  We want to alert you that we may have a possible buyer of our home.  We are awaiting … (6 comments)

greenville sc: Raindrops ARE Falling on my head! - 08/26/08 10:43 AM
Without exception, yesterday and today I have heard only positive comments about the rain and storms we have in our drought-stricken area now.  The Weather people are predicting5-6 inches of rain this week, possibly more.  It will not catch us up on the -21 inches we are missing but sure will help.  The lack of rain was beginning to wreak havoc with food for cattle, crops, people's dispositions, etc, etc.  The attitudes are one of just being grateful we are getting some of the much needed rain.
Yes, there was a tornado that touched down over Lake Hartwell then came ashore near … (8 comments)

greenville sc: Going off to College - 08/21/08 01:45 PM
My granddaughter moved into her college dorm (Presbyterian College) about 2 weeks ago on Friday and it is with mixed emotions I write this.  I'm so proud of her and where she is in her life.  My son has done a wonderful job raising her as a single parent who remarried 5 years ago.  He is as good a momma/daddy as you will ever meet.  When she was little, he could put her hair up in a ponytail better than I could.  He & wife Tracy both have a child going off to college this week, he will also be gone (Clemson University).  … (7 comments)

greenville sc: The House is a What??? - 08/21/08 05:45 AM
A good Realtor friend emailed me last week and she and her partner had gone on a listing interview to a nearby city for a commercial property (Spa Business).  She said it became apparent that the Spa was a house of ill repute and that was a first for her after about 12-15 years in business.  They left saying to themselves, that's a "- -" house and we DON'T want that listing!!!   I can just hear them now as they both love to find the humor in things; they probably laughed all the way home.  They later found out it had been … (11 comments)
