home staging: Realtors, what do you want to know from a stager?
- 06/07/10 11:42 AM
I'm calling out to my fellow AR realtors, because I am giving a presentation to a real estate office tomorrow. I am putting the finishing touches on my presentation and thought I'd do a quick self evaluation on my content. As a presenter, I believe in providing valuable information, so I want to make sure I have content that is useful for realtors. Now's your chance to tell me everything you've ever wanted to know from a professional home stager. Maybe I'll even provide some of the answers here :) Thanks!

For me the fun of using turquoise is about using a bright, bold vivid color. It makes me smile. That happiness reaches buyers!
This season’s turquoise is replacing the light blue/brown palette that has been popular for awhile and really giving it a punch! This use is globally inspired and mixed with spicy reds and rich browns. Have fun with color!

home staging: New Life for Walls – EasyChange Wallpaper
- 01/11/10 03:30 AM
I just found out about a new product launch from Sherwin-Williams. Their EasyChange wallpaper line goes up quickly and easily. The best part is it removes without tools or chemicals solvents and doesn’t rip. It is eco-friendly, made of non-vinyl materials. The colors and patterns range from modern to traditional in multiple colorways. I love the Design By Color collection. All are perfect for creating drama or a focal point in a room. Collections also include kids’ themes and characters, so you can satisfy a current obsession without the long term commitment. I love the look of a great (9 comments)
home staging: It’s a great time to buy, but is it a great time to sell?
- 01/10/10 05:04 PM
It is a great time to sell, for smart homeowners. Here’s how: Hire a realtor. They can help you make all the decisions related to marketing and selling your home. Hire a home stager. A professional will consult with you or perform the work to make your home wow buyers and encourage them to make an offer. Price realistically. Do your research and take the advice of your realtor. Priced and presented properly, homes are selling quickly. Include buyer motivators. There are many loan programs available that may help a buyer get into a new home, even one that needs (5 comments)
home staging: Selecting Linens For the Bedroom
- 01/10/10 07:51 AM
To me, there’s nothing better than a set of crisp white sheets. They’re clean and cozy, but what works for you? Here are a few things to consider when making your bed. Look at both sides of the comforter. Even when it’s not marketed as reversible, the contrasting side of the comforter is important. I often choose one based on the “other” side. Liking both sides extends the life of the piece and the flexibility allows you to change your décor with the seasons, or on a whim. My favorite right now is a coverlet, with a deep blue on blue (0 comments)
home staging: Color Theory Basics Part 5: Saturation
- 12/11/09 02:11 PM
Here's the last installment of color info from the Sherwin-Williams article. I hope you enjoyed it and learned something new along the way! Saturation. The purity or intensity of a color is called saturation. The most-saturated colors are vivid and strong, where less-saturated colors can appear washed out or muted. Gray has zero saturation. The quality of light can affect saturation; for example, a painted wall’s color can appear more saturated during the day and less so as the light fades, and different types of artificial light can enhance or diminish saturation. Value. This term describes the lightness or darkness of a color. Colors with more white (tints) have higher value, and darker colors (shades) have lower value. It’s a very helpful term when describing the possibilities of color, but you’ll want to explain it clearly to clients.

Shade. A color made darker by adding black to it. Navy is a shade of blue. This word is routinely used to describe any variation of color, even much lighter ones — take for example the 1960s song "A Whiter Shade of Pale" — so some clients may not understand that shades are darker than the base color.

home staging: What To Do With Plastic Wrap
- 11/12/09 02:44 PM
I was working in the kitchen today, when a thought crossed my mind. Now, I have made great strides in my use of reusable products, but I find that every now and then I just need to reach for something that isn’t eco-friendly. In this case it was plastic wrap. So I started to think, how can it be reused? Jumping immediately to the handy dandy internet, I came across these great ideas. Although they are not written as reuse options, most of these are perfect for a piece that just covered a bowl of leftovers in the fridge. The (8 comments)

home staging: Staging Horror Stories
- 09/18/09 03:48 AM
We’ve all had them, right? That moment when your creative process comes to a screeching halt. Something goes terribly wrong, and you suddenly find yourself doing something totally unexpected. Here’s one for ya... I visited my client for the initial consultation and instantly noticed that all of her beautiful hardwood floors were covered by custom rugs. I mean completely covered, so that the entry, hallway, kitchen, and dining room looked almost like wall-to-wall carpet. They were very nice, but taste specific, and I thought they made things a bit busy. Afterall, buyers love hardwoods, right, and these must be pristine since (5 comments)
