I started a new book yesterday: How We Learn, by Benedict Carey. As I was reading the introduction, I found out something that was immediately worth the price of the book. I could have stopped reading at that point and been happy—actually, I was overjoyed!
I found out that math fear is a real thing. I can add and multiply (my mom taught me the multiplication tables with flash cards while I was in elementary school), but I am terrible at subtraction, fractions, geometry, algebra, and long division. The significant number for the sixth month of the year is 6, for San Antonio home sales at least.
The average sales price for a single-family home rose by 6 percent to a record high of $232,839 in June. Twelve months ago, the average price was $219,489, according to the June numbers from the San Antonio Board of Realtors.

 Yes, it is a seller’s market and home prices have been going up in San Antonio. But interest rates are still historically low. And those rates have more of an impact on what you can afford to buy than prices.
For example, if you’re looking for the average priced home in San Antonio, as of June 2014 it would be a little less than $225,000. How much would you pay each month with a 20% down payment to avoid paying private mortgage insurance on a 30-year fixed rate mortgage?

This morning I was pouring cereal into a bowl, and the rattling noise made one of my cats run into the kitchen, thinking I was going to give her an early lunch of dry cat food. I kindly told her in a high-pitched voice, "This isn't kitty food, this is mommy food!"

February was another good month for builders and home sellers in the San Antonio-New Braunfels metro*. Inventory is still low at 4.2 months worth of supply, with 1,454 single-family homes sold in February. Another 1,548 homes were pending sale, and the average time on the market was 77 days. When homes spend less than 6 months on the market, it is considered a seller’s market because demand exceeds supply.

It’s getting harder and harder to get a deal on a foreclosure in the San Antonio metro. There are fewer foreclosed properties on the market every month in Bexar County, continuing a decline that began in the fall of 2012.
Because of demand outstripping supply, and the increase of home prices in San Antonio overall, asking prices are higher now, and they often receive multiple offers.

Temperatures and rainfall were not the only things to set records in San Antonio this May. It was also a hot, rainmaking month for home sales in the San Antonio metro.
