staging: Staging to Appeal to Minimalists: Part 1 - 07/02/18 11:52 AM
In my last post, I wrote about the trend towards minimalism among millennials, and how it might affect the desires of buyers in the future. In this two-part series, I’d like to suggest some ways that sellers can make their homes more attractive to minimalist buyers.

The easiest way I can spot a fellow minimalist is to open their kitchen cabinets or pantry. A kitchen just feels so much larger and cleaner when open cabinets and countertops reveal empty space. When I made the transition to minimalism, I started in my kitchen. Just by getting … (0 comments)

staging: How to get rid of telltale furniture dents in carpet - 11/18/11 12:52 AM
I just sold a house with carpet in the bedrooms and family room. The tenants who lived there previously apparently had some very heavy furniture. The dents in the carpet were still there, even after the carpet was shampooed and steam-cleaned--twice. I wish I had known about these two methods of removing the dents so I could have passed it on to my client. Thanks to Barbara, I will know next time. Check it out:

At Design2Sell Interiors and Home Staging we are often ask to share tricks of the trade. One is how to remove dents. When a leg … (5 comments)

staging: Effectively Preparing a Home for Market, Part 3 - 11/12/11 08:37 AM
This blog post encompasses just about everything a seller (and an agent) would need to consider before putting a listing on the market. It's a very impressive and useful checklist from a creative mind indeed. Thank you for taking the time to write this, Sebastian!

How to Effectively Prepare a Home for Market
A Market-Ready Series, Part 3

In "How does the Home look from the Street?" you were instructed to begin taking a look, a serious, in-depth look, at the house you either currently have on the market or about to place on the market for sale and to ask … (1 comments)

staging: Red, red walls: love 'em or hate 'em, here's what to do - 02/10/11 01:18 AM
I work with both home buyers and sellers, and I look at a whole lot of houses. I try to keep up with decorating trends in various neighborhoods and price ranges, too, since a couple of my clients are involved in remodeling homes for resale. One trend that is starting to fade away, at least in San Antonio, is painting accent walls or even whole rooms in shades of red, orange, or dark green. Bold colors were all the rage for a while, but lighter and brighter shades of green, pink, and turquoise are becoming more common.
But there is still a place for red … (8 comments)

staging: 7 staging secrets to making a small room seem larger - 11/28/10 02:23 AM
Whether you are redecorating or getting a house ready to sell, you may have at least one room that looks a little dinky. Following are 7 staging secrets to making a small room look larger:
1. Use a light, neutral color scheme. Tried and true shades of cream, beige, or pale pastels work best to make a room lighter and thus look larger.2. Furnishings, rugs, and window treatments should not contrast greatly with each other. Use different shades of one or two colors so the various elements blend instead of overwhelming the room. 3. Open curtains and blinds, and turn on all the lights. … (12 comments)

staging: How to stage your listings a la Early American Tacky - 05/24/10 11:30 AM

Angela's post is right on target! I have seen a few of these things when showing homes in the San Antonio area.
I especially dislike when the towels are tied with a ribbon to prevent people from using them. That to me is tacky. I always put toilet paper, soap, and guest towels in all the bathrooms, since buyers (and their agents) inevitably are going to use them. Please let them dry their hands! It would leave a much better impression with the buyers.

Home staging should show off the great features of your listing and diminish the negative … (5 comments)

staging: "Blue carpet is the kiss of death" - things that make houses sit there and not sell - 11/11/08 08:32 AM
Real estate is local, of course, and I have noticed certain things over the years that make a house stubbornly cling to its sellers instead of taking in new owners. At least in my area, and maybe in others, these issues can cause the house to take longer to sell.
One of them is blue carpet, as per my soon-to-be trademarked slogan in the title of this post. Emerald-green carpet isn't great, but it's not as bad as blue. (Below is an actual photo from the MLS.)

Another thing that keeps houses from selling is bad feng shui that comes from … (35 comments)
