I took some time and watched the movie Secretariat last night. While most people of course focus on the amazing victory of the final horse race I was struck by one simple short scene.
There was a quick mention that for years the Lucien Lauring the horse trainer had caried around every newspaper clipping of every horse race lost. I remember thinking why would anyone want to carry around the reminder of their failures. How could he gear himself up for the wins if he was focusing on the defeats.
