Author Iain Murray will be my guest on today's Simon Conway Radio Experience which airs at 4pm Eastern on 1520 WHIM in Central Florida and is available nationwide on http://www.1520whim.com/
Iain has written "The Really Inconvenient Truths - seven environmental catastrophies Liberals don't want you to know about - because they helped cause them" and I am really looking forward to this interview.
Let's look at some of the Chapter titles: Chapter One - Malaria: The Plague of Environmentalists. Chapter Two: Save the Planet, Starve the World. Chapter Five- Cuyahoga Burning. How Progressives set a river on fire. I could go on, but … (7 comments)

radio show: Declining Dollar draws in foreign homebuyers - 11/16/07 09:01 AM
The declining Dollar certainly is making us all think at least twice before deciding to go on a foreign vacation. In fact a smoker friend of mine just came back from the UK where he told me that gas was equal to $10 a gallon and a packet of cigarettes was $15 - not a carton, a pack!
But it is not all bad news for us because the whole thing works in reverse for foreigners! $3 gas for us = 1.50 POUNDS for someone from England. And housing is just the same which is what is dragging these foreigners here to … (6 comments)

radio show: If you don't fall behind, your lender won't help you - 11/10/07 06:55 AM
For weeks now I have been talking about this problem on my radio program - The Home Team Radio Show, which airs every Sunday at noon on 540 WFLA in Central Florida and all over the world at http://www.540wfla.com/
Now it seems that this ridiculous state of affairs is starting to pick up wider exposure.
It works something like this. You understand that your home is now worth less than you owe on it - or indeed that you know you won't be able to make mortgage payments when your mortgage resets - and so you, being a good borrower, contact your … (6 comments)

radio show: This week's Home Team Radio Show - 10/20/07 10:45 AM
Well it's that time again when I bring you all up to date on what will be heard on tomorrow's Home Team Radio Show which airs every Sunday at noon on 540WFLA right here in Central Florida - and don't forget that you can tune in even if you are not in Central Florida by going to http://www.540wfla.com/
Of course we will be talking about property taxes with the State once again seeming to be bogged down by political infighting amongst the Republican controlled Senate, House and even the Governor's Mansion. Last time we were here they produced something that was so … (0 comments)

radio show: Is the SEC investigating Mozilo and Countrywide? - 10/20/07 08:57 AM
A report earlier this week suggested that the SEC was paying special attention to Countrywide and its founder and CEO, Angelo Mozilo.
Apparently the investigation is part of a larger look the SEC is taking at a dozen or so companies in connection with the subprime crisis, but it is having a much closer look at Countrywide and Mozilo.
Certainly part of that investigation has to include the issue of Mozilo dumping $130 million of his own company's stock in the first six months of this year.
Apparently North Carolina's state treasurer Richard Moore last week asked the SEC to investigate Mozilo's stock sales, claiming … (2 comments)

radio show: On the radio - 09/22/07 10:33 PM
Radio is a powerful medium for sure. I cannot really count how much business I have gotten from being on the radio each week, but it certainly manages to reinforce the fact that I am my local expert. Endorsement from the station's breakfast show host doesn't hurt either and my regular appearances on his show complete the picture.
This week on the radio show - The Home Team - which airs every Sunday at noon on am 540 WFLA in the Orlando area and throughout the country on line at http://www.540wfla.com/ - we will be talking about how the Florida Association of … (22 comments)

This week I will be talking about THREE listings that each come with a brand new Mercedes 300 Sports Sedan. The car can go to the new owners or the agent.
I will also be discussing Florida's latest "Special Session" - this time to fix the budget and asking "are these in violation of our Sunshine Laws?"
We will obviously be talking about the latest finance industry problems, not least of which will be Countrywide facing a … (4 comments)

radio show: Countrywide employees file suit against the lender - 09/12/07 09:45 AM

A lawsuit on behalf of it's employees has been filed against Countrywide Financial Corp. claiming the mortgage lender failed to warn its employees about the depth of its financial troubles, resulting in heavy stock losses in their 401k retirement accounts.
The lawsuit was filed yesterday in the U.S. District Court in Santa Ana, and seeks class-action status. It names as defendants Countrywide Chairman and Chief Executive Angelo Mozilo and benefits committee members in charge of the retirement plan.
With 12,000 people losing their jobs I am of course tempted to ask why Mr Mozilo still has a job? The company was surely acting on his … (5 comments)

radio show: This week on the radio - 09/08/07 11:25 AM

This week on The Home Team Radio Show we take our usual look at the good news from the real estate and finance markets that other people don't want to talk about. We also have a special guest who is going to be discussing why now is such a fantastic opportunity for Europeans to buy Florida real estate.
Also, we will be looking at Florida's projected population growth over the next 20 years. Produced by The Florida Legislature Office of Economic and Demographic Research, the report suggests that more than 8,000,000 people will be moving to the State by 2030. It is … (0 comments)

radio show: Experts agree that Orlando's economy is BOOMING! - 09/03/07 06:21 AM
Three top experts all agree that Orlando continues to have a booming economy and that any slowdown in housing is a temporary blip.
This is the kind of information you will hear on my weekly radio show - The Home Team- on 540 WFLA. The show airs every Sunday at Noon Eastern and if you are not in Central Florida, then you can pick it up online at http://www.540wfla.com/
But back to the subject matter here. Orlando Real Estate and Windermere real estate really don't have to worry long term because our economy is booming.
The three most important indicators are all still there … (4 comments)

radio show: State budget facing a $2bn cut - 08/29/07 03:08 PM
Florida legislators are facing a $2bn budget cut over the next two years. they are blaming housing, but whatever the reason i think this is GREAT news! The less money they have to spend, the less damage they can do. Also they always seem to forget just who's money it is they are playing with. They act like they are involved in some giant monopoly game!
The bottom line here is they could fix this AND the housing situation if they had the guts to do it. The original proposal on the table regarding property taxes, was to abolish them completely and … (2 comments)

radio show: Nationwide clearly not on our side! - 08/28/07 09:33 AM
Florida's fifth largest insurer announced today that is is dumping more than 40,000 policy holders. This follows on from last month when State Farm dumped some 50,000 policy holders.
This is EXACTLY why I want to challenge the Governor to come on my radio show. He has been invited numerous times to talk about the failed insurance reform which took place at a special session in January and I also want to talk to him about the failed property tax reform as well - also something conjured up at a special session!
The first obvious question is why we need expensive special sessions … (2 comments)

radio show: Florida's house sales move into 2002 territory - 08/27/07 03:07 PM
Yes we're back to 2002 levels of home sales across the State. This is not a bad thing and I can see a steady improvement over the next 12 months. The big black spot is of course Miami's condo meltdown, but there are many bright spots - not least of which is Florida's continued string job growth.
In fact in job growth in Orange County alone was larger than some US States last year - quite an achievement! And obviously with jobs there are people. And where there are people there are home sales.
There is plenty of good news out there and … (0 comments)

radio show: Taking on the Governor - 08/26/07 09:51 AM
OK so I had a rant on the radio show today, but it was a justified rant and one which made the phones ring as fellow rantees tried to join our discussion.
Property taxes was the subject matter and the Florida Association of Realtors decision to back the amendment that will appear on the ballot on January 29. FAR will in fact spend $1m of MY MONEY to try and convince the voters of Florida that they should vote YES to the property tax amendment. And yet, I d not know a single Realtor who thinks this is a good idea. FAR … (3 comments)

radio show: This week's radio show - 08/25/07 03:21 PM
This week's radio show will air on 540 WFLA at 12 noon Eastern on Sunday. If you don't live in Florida then you can tune in on line by going to www.540wfla.com and clicking on LISTEN NOW
I feel a rant coming on! Yes you will be certain to hear me take on the Governor of the State regarding property tax reform and also insurance reform. And at the same time you will hear me not being very pleased with the "official" Realtor position on property tax.
In addition to that there will be an exclusive offer for our radio listeners; plenty of … (0 comments)

radio show: Been away! - 08/24/07 08:18 AM
This is my first post in some time. I went to have back surgery on 8/7 and what should have been three days in hospital and one surgery ended up as 11 days in hospital and two surgeries. Also two infections that they managed to give me caused some problems!!
As you can imagine, this was not what  had hoped for. I am now finally on the road to recovery and I am pleased to say that through all this I only missed one radio show and was still able to conduct business through the strenuous efforts of my excellent assistant! Thank … (2 comments)

radio show: This week's radio show - 08/05/07 01:33 AM
This week on my radio show - The Home Team - which airs every Sunday at Noon Eastern on 540 WFLA and can be heard on line at www.540wfla.com if you are not in Central Florida - we have a very busy week.
I have an exclusive offer for listeners which I can't talk about here, but it is certainly worth tuning in for that if for nothing else.
We also look at the riskiest housing markets in the country and offer some explanations as to why this data might be skewed.
We continue to look at the mortgage market and to discuss the … (1 comments)

radio show: Florida's Insurance crisis - 08/01/07 04:57 PM
It would seem that Florida's Governor, Charlie Crist, is finally waking up to the realisation that the insurance reform did not work. In fact just this week we got this: "I'm fed up with them," he said talking about the insurance companies. "I'm very frustrated with this industry."
The problem however can be traced back to the Legislature compromising and compromising and basically passing an incredibly weak Bill. There were some good proposals on the original table, but much like Property Tax, they fell by the wayside.
Frankly all that is left now is to go back to the Legislature and enact something … (0 comments)

radio show: This week on the radio - 07/30/07 07:22 PM
Once again this week, hurricane forecasters have reduced their dire predictions for the 2007 atlantic hurricane season. This happened at the same time last year and the whole thing makes you start to wonder why each year since 2004 we have received such ominous warnings at the start of the season. (Hurricane season runs June to November).
Here in Florida we know that sooner or later we will again be hit by another hurricane. We choose to live here with that knowledge because the good massively outweighs the bad. Before that summer of 2004 it had been 40 years since Central Florida … (0 comments)
