The University of South Alabama's Center for Real Estate and Economic Development Department compiles monthly data on real estate activities in Mobile, AL, and produces the Mobile Single-Family Real Estate Report each month. The report reflects the following: Prices: From July to August, 2013, average sales prices of homes decreased from $136,454 to $133,450, a 2.20% decrease. From August, 2012, to August, 2013, the average sales price of homes increased from $115,430 to $133,450. About me: Born and raised in Mobile, AL, I moved away to go to college, and worked in other areas of the country for awhile after that. Smithfield Subdivision, located in West Mobile, is a beautiful neighborhood filled with a variety of home styles. Most of the homes were built between the mid-1980's through the early to mid-1990's, although there are a few newer homes there. There are lots of creole cottage styles, some contemporaries, and plenty of traditionals and ranch-style homes. Sizes of most of the homes range from 1800 to 2800 square feet.
