If you hang around SCHWEITZER MOUNTAIN RESORT, long enough…eventually one of the ski area’s iconic on-slope homes will become available.  It doesn’t happen often.  The ski-in/ski-out homeowners around here are very protective of their treasures.
Well…you’re in the “right place at the right time”.  Unit #12 in THE PINNACLE RIDGE townhome complex is now available.  Those of you who are lucky enough to ski SCHWEITZER are all too familiar with these units.  You really can't over-exaggerate the old adage “LOCATION-LOCATION-LOCATION” when discussing THE PINNACLE’S.
As the above picture illustrates, Unit 12 is right next to Schweitzer’s Selkirk Lodge, … (0 comments)

I ventured out onto the semi-frozen shoreline of Lake Pend Oreille, Sandpoint, Idaho today and comped together the panoramic, cold  beauty of Kootenai Bay this morning.  The harshness can be the most beautiful of all.  The eagles were certainly enjoying it...they were a little too far off to capture in this photo.

idaho: A busy month at Schweitzer! - 12/30/12 09:08 AM
Just as I was getting ready to kick back and enjoy my family over the Holidays (including my birthday), clients came out of the woodwork requiring quick closings to take advantage of the incredible early snow depth at Schweitzer Mountain.  Relying on a little luck and whatever finesse I could muster, the mission was accomplished!  The fact that Schweitzer is currently leading the pack with the highest snow total of any major ski area in the states certainly has helped make this Holiday Season go a little bit smoother.

idaho: Boulder Ridge at Schweitzer Mountain, Sandpoint, Idaho - new listing! - 10/01/12 05:31 AM
It doesn’t get more pristine than this.  Boulder Ridge is located just 1 mile above Schweitzer Mountain Resort providing easy access to Schweitzer’s world-class ski runs yet secluded enough to offer “get-away” privacy for the family.  The photo below does not lie…the views from “The Ridge” are unparalleled and the hiking, snowshoeing & cross country trails are spectacular!

Boulder Ridge is currently a ski-in / shuttle-out condo complex.  Schweitzer Mountain Resort provides FREE shuttle service to and from Boulder Ridge on weekends making ski access about as convenient as possible. (CLICK HERE TO VIEW MLS LISTING)

idaho: Pure North Idaho! 1933 LOWER PACK RIVER ROAD, SANDPOINT, ID - 06/08/12 07:51 AM

As I was filling out the MLS listing information on this home, I found I was getting more & more excited about what this Pack Riverfront property actually offered.
Let's start with the location.  1933 Lower Pack River Road is just 10 miles from Sandpoint's city limits and a mere 1.5 miles from the famous Idaho Club Golf Course (a Jack Nicklaus designed masterpiece)!  It is hidden in a spectacular mountain meadow, yet is just 75 yards off Lower Pack River Road...a well maintained county road.
As we researched the river frontage on the Pack River (one of Sandpoint's most … (5 comments)

idaho: Garfield Bay-A Day in the Life of a Sandpoint Realtor. - 05/28/12 03:47 AM
I'm happy to report I have a new listing!

My new listing (1769 Garfield Bay Road) is located 13 miles from my front door (a 3-mile drive to Sandpoint, another 3 miles across Lake Pend Oreille and the Sandpoint Long Bridge to the town of Sagle and, finally, 7 miles east on Sagle Road to the community of Garfield Bay).  I DO NOT take this journey for granted.  It would be hard to imagine a more beautiful 13 mile trip and I will make this sojourn as often as possible...if for no other reason than to just enjoy life … (2 comments)

idaho: SPEECHLESS SUNDAY: North Idaho's Selkirk Crest looms large over Sandpoint - 05/06/12 11:34 AM
Spring has finally sprung in Sandpoint, Idaho (better late than never) and what better time to dust off the bike and take a ride north of town.  Looming above Sandpoint are the ever-present Seven Sisters Peaks of the Selkirk Crest...a constant reminder of why we live here.  This photo was taken 6 miles from the Sandpoint city limits in beautiful Selle Valley.

I should add that this shot was taken less than a mile from my log home listing at 342 W. Shingle Mill Road.  (Click here to view listing):   (MLS#20120444)

The Inland Empire High School Tennis Tournament took place this weekend...April 27 & 28th in Spokane, Washington. This year the draw included 46 teams from Washington & Idaho and over 700 participants!  This is argueably the largest HS tennis tournament in the U.S.
As always, the competition was distinction was placed on the size of the school.  Everyone had to compete equally.  The challenge of a small school of, perhaps, 300 students competing against the massive "big-city" schools of 2500+ students can be daunting, to say the least, but this is the stuff dreams are made of.

idaho: Speechless Sunday: The Moose are out in Sandpoint, Idaho. - 03/04/12 03:57 AM

342 W. Shingle Mill Rd., Sandpoint, Idaho (MLS#20120444)

My new listing at 342 W. Shingle Mill Rd (MLS#20120444) comes complete with a family of moose.  While out taking pictures on a sunny day, I asked the owner what kind of wildlife they see on their 20 acres.  Before long, I got a close-up of Mrs. Moose looking out toward the driveway.  No extra charge for you home-buyers out there!

idaho: 342 W. Shingle Mill Rd. Log Home in Sandpoint, Idaho's Selle Valley - 02/24/12 05:23 AM

Sandpoint's Selle Valley is known for it's overpowering views of Schweitzer Mountain Resort to the west and the overwhelming view of the Cabinet Mountains to the east (encompassing over 94,000 acres and protected by the Wilderness Act of 1964).
The massive Schweitzer Bowls continually loom over "The Selle" reminding us of one of the reasons why we live in this Northwest Paradise.  I was one of many who were lured to "powderful" Sandpoint, Idaho to frolic in Schweitzer Mountain's winter wonderland but that's not really what keeps me here.
Summer in Sandpoint and it's coveted Selle Valley is what helped garner the "Most … (4 comments)

idaho: Now Is The Time To Make A Sweet Deal. - 02/18/12 01:31 PM

I have a snow globe on my desk.  When I shake it and the dust settles, it reveals a big question mark.  That's my answer when my customers ask me to predict the future mortgage rates this summer.  Based upon the graph below (supplied by our "good friend" Freddie Mac), it looks like now is the time to buy, however.  This was my answer a year ago and probably will be my answer moving well into 2012.

Home prices are down and mortgage rates are at the lowest point in 30 years.  If you are in a … (7 comments)

idaho: Speechless Sunday: Sandpoint/Schweitzer "Epic Day!" - 02/05/12 08:12 AM
If you remember North Lake Tahoe 20 years ago, you will appreciate Sandpoint today.  These photos from yesterday say it all.  The "immaculate Sandpoint/Schweitzer Winter" continues.  In fact, today I rode my bike 20 miles in the bright/warm sunshine...this marks the 12th straight month of outdoor biking!  That is truly amazing...especially considering I was skiing Schweitzer Mountain's soft powder on a 105" base yesterday just 11 miles from downtown Sandpoint!
No wonder we've been recently awarded, "Best Ski Town In The U.S." (Rand Mcnally), "Most Beautiful Town In America" (USA Today) and, for you investors out there, Most Under The Radar Ski Town (Sunsets Magazine)!

idaho: Sandpoint, Idaho voted #1 ski town in America! - 01/22/12 07:03 AM
Well, this came as a bit of a surprise.  I love it here in Sandpoint but...#1 ski town in the U.S.?  The folks at Rand McNally really do love us.  I guess I can just sit back now and fend off the onslaught of buyers hoping to be a part of this bonanza.  I'm thinking that may not happen but our notoriety certainly can't hurt business.  The great part of this is our geographical location...Sandpoint is located in a narrow valley between Lake Pend Oreille and the Selkirk Mountains.  We're just not going to get a massive population explosion with sprawling … (3 comments)

idaho: The Ridge At Schweitzer Mountain just got more affordable! - 12/01/11 02:35 PM
Seriously.  This is one of the Rockies most phenominal settings.
The Ridge At Schweitzer Mountain is located 1 mile up the mountain from Schweitzer Mountain Resort.  I'm incredibly biased, I admit...but you just can't do better than Schweitzer.  Today is December first...I've already had three days of mid-calf powder skiing so far this year, one day of bright bluebird skies, no rocks and Schweitzer hasn't even opened fulltime yet!  Plus I mowed the backyard yesterday at my home in the valley (Sandpoint, Idaho) 10 miles from the lifts.  In other words, the best of all worlds.  ...and now the best … (3 comments)

idaho: Speechless Sunday: "The Temple of the Silver Pavillion", Kyoto, Japan - 11/13/11 12:02 AM
What better time to inaugurate my presence in the new AR Sunrises & Sunsets Group than my current trip to Kyoto City, Japan.  The photo below (taken today - Sunday, November 13) looks out over the top of Ginkakuji Temple, a zen temple established in 1482.

Just to provide proof that this photo is actually real, below I sit in the doorway of one of the homes just outside "The Temple of the Silver Pavillion" (Ginkakuji Temple) considered "the creation of the soul of Japan".  The famous Japanese Gardens are believed to have originated from this site.

idaho: Speechless Sunday: Fire on the Bay - 07/31/11 05:00 AM
The winds were calm on Kootenai Bay.  The Sandpoint air was still... with just a hint of chill in the air.  It was the perfect night for a bonfire and the never ending quest for inspiration.  I was inspired enough to grab my camera and document the moment.  We wait all winter for the inevitable perfect summer evenings...can't let these moments pass us by!

idaho: Amazing waterfront on Lake Pend Oreille, Sandpoint, Idaho - 07/23/11 12:11 PM
22 Crooked Ear Court in "The Cottages" on Kootenai Bay is a craftsman's masterpiece...a unique combination of native North Idaho stone hand placed to create 18 inch thick walls with authentic, doweled timber-frame infrastructure.  This is a one-of-kind family enclave that exudes warmth and security in every room.  The entire home is interwoven with organic shapes and finely detailed timber framing with dramatic metal connections and strappings.
Nestled in coveted Kootenai Bay just three miles from Sandpoint, 22 Crooked Ear Court is close enough to Schweitzer Mountain to be seen from any run on the frontside of this world-class ski resort!
This true masterpiece offers main level … (9 comments)

idaho: NEW Sandpoint Home...close to town AND Idaho's legendary wilderness...Really? - 02/24/11 01:28 PM
We all have different motivations for why we have selected to live where we live.  How’s this for motivation:
New, never lived-in, cedar home located at 1662 Upper Pack River Road just minutes from the entrance to The Selkirk Crest Wilderness Area and some of North Idaho’s most dramatic hiking trails and rock climbing faces!  Hunting, fishing & unlimited outdoor recreation abound in the pristine Upper Pack River drainage.
More motivation?
This home is located just 1.6 miles west of Highway 95 on the county maintained Upper Pack River Road and a mere 11 miles from Sandpoint, Idaho and all the amazing … (9 comments)

idaho: It worked! I got the "First Impression Rose"! - 02/15/11 09:47 AM
You've got to understand.  This is "play country" in North Idaho.  My wardrobe consists (primarily) of warm-ups, sweat sox (typically ankle sox for tennis), dozens of athletic gray tee-shirts, ski clothes and a lot of polos & blue jeans.  All of these items do double-time as work-wear & play-wear.  My clients have come to expect the "casual look" in this part of the country.  It's the primary reason I have chosen to make this my home.  Showing homes up at Schweitzer Mountain is often done in "standard-fare" Descente ski pants, Salomon mock fleece & ski vest.  In the summer you'll find … (41 comments)
