sandpoint: New Price on Waterfront Listing: Lot 3, Whiskey Jack Circle, Sandpoint, Idaho - 09/02/11 04:11 AM
Owning waterfront in Whiskey Jack Circle (Lot 3, specifically) can be both a Blessing & a Curse.
Let’s count the “Blessings” first:
1)    Whiskey Jack Circle rests on the shores of Kootenai Bay on Lake Pend Oreille in Sandpoint, Idaho
2)    Lake Pend Oreille is the 11th largest fresh water lake (by volume) in the world
3)    Kootenai Bay sits 3 miles across from the twinkling evening lights of Sandpoint
4)    Kootenai Bay is one of the warmest bays in the lake allowing for an extended swimming season

sandpoint: Another listing in Utopia! 750 Rustling Leaf Road, Priest River, Idaho - 08/30/11 11:35 AM
This is getting ridiculous.  My listings are looking like a travelogue in Utopia.  Here is another one:

How much is the view alone worth?  I guess it depends on what it is that makes us whole.  For some of us, this is all we need.  There is so much beauty here in North Idaho, but I was astonished when I first ventured out to 750 Rustling Leaf Road for my listing appointment.  It kind of takes the breath away.  That is the Pend Oreille River off in the distance as … (4 comments)

sandpoint: Speechless Sunday: Fire on the Bay - 07/31/11 05:00 AM
The winds were calm on Kootenai Bay.  The Sandpoint air was still... with just a hint of chill in the air.  It was the perfect night for a bonfire and the never ending quest for inspiration.  I was inspired enough to grab my camera and document the moment.  We wait all winter for the inevitable perfect summer evenings...can't let these moments pass us by!

sandpoint: Amazing waterfront on Lake Pend Oreille, Sandpoint, Idaho - 07/23/11 12:11 PM
22 Crooked Ear Court in "The Cottages" on Kootenai Bay is a craftsman's masterpiece...a unique combination of native North Idaho stone hand placed to create 18 inch thick walls with authentic, doweled timber-frame infrastructure.  This is a one-of-kind family enclave that exudes warmth and security in every room.  The entire home is interwoven with organic shapes and finely detailed timber framing with dramatic metal connections and strappings.
Nestled in coveted Kootenai Bay just three miles from Sandpoint, 22 Crooked Ear Court is close enough to Schweitzer Mountain to be seen from any run on the frontside of this world-class ski resort!
This true masterpiece offers main level … (9 comments)

sandpoint: Tennis properties in Sandpoint? We've got 'em! - 06/29/11 05:33 PM
Most who read my blog know that I coach the Sandpoint High School tennis team (when I'm not playing full-time Realtor).  As a result, I get a fair amount of inquiries about the availability of "tennis properties" here.  In fact, I get a fair amount of inquiries asking if anyone "really" knows how to play tennis in North Idaho.
The answers are...we DO have many tennis-oriented properties available at any given time and, yes, we do play real tennis in North Idaho.  In fact, we have a VERY active tennis community!  The Sandpoint Tennis Association has about 80 active members who … (1 comments)

sandpoint: Anthony's Restaurant at Spokane Falls, Spokane, Washington - 06/17/11 01:35 PM
It has been awhile since I have written a "hyper-local" post but, right now, I just can't help myself.  I have owned property in Sandpoint, Idaho (75 miles north of Spokane, WA) since 1978.  In all those years, I have never found myself in the famous Anthony's Restaurant situated directly on top of the overwhelming beauty of Spokane Falls.  As I sit at my table viewing the splendor I am truly amazed.

Not only does Anthony's offer the best local fish cuisine I have ever seen, but the setting is astounding!  This experience WILL NOT be a one-time event.  This … (2 comments)

sandpoint: Northern Exposure is alive & well in Sandpoint, Idaho - 03/05/11 06:47 AM
I hear comparisons of Sandpoint with Alaska over & over.  In fact, there are many former Alaskans living here in North Idaho as they try to come close to duplicating their experience in the 49th state without the inconvenience of living so far away from the rest of us down here in the "48 contiguous".  The constant invasion of moose in our local neighborhoods help make our Alaskan friends feel right at home. We never get tired of our gangly moose buddies!
Trivia...Alaska became our 49th state on January 3, 1959.  (Don't say you don't learn anything on my blog)

sandpoint: NEW Sandpoint Home...close to town AND Idaho's legendary wilderness...Really? - 02/24/11 01:28 PM
We all have different motivations for why we have selected to live where we live.  How’s this for motivation:
New, never lived-in, cedar home located at 1662 Upper Pack River Road just minutes from the entrance to The Selkirk Crest Wilderness Area and some of North Idaho’s most dramatic hiking trails and rock climbing faces!  Hunting, fishing & unlimited outdoor recreation abound in the pristine Upper Pack River drainage.
More motivation?
This home is located just 1.6 miles west of Highway 95 on the county maintained Upper Pack River Road and a mere 11 miles from Sandpoint, Idaho and all the amazing … (9 comments)

sandpoint: It worked! I got the "First Impression Rose"! - 02/15/11 09:47 AM
You've got to understand.  This is "play country" in North Idaho.  My wardrobe consists (primarily) of warm-ups, sweat sox (typically ankle sox for tennis), dozens of athletic gray tee-shirts, ski clothes and a lot of polos & blue jeans.  All of these items do double-time as work-wear & play-wear.  My clients have come to expect the "casual look" in this part of the country.  It's the primary reason I have chosen to make this my home.  Showing homes up at Schweitzer Mountain is often done in "standard-fare" Descente ski pants, Salomon mock fleece & ski vest.  In the summer you'll find … (41 comments)

sandpoint: Kodak Video Challenge - Schweitzer Real Estate - The Ridge at Schweitzer - 01/17/11 03:17 PM
OK.  Here goes my first attempt at video marketing.
The (hopefully) correctly imbedded video is of my new listing on Schweitzer Mountain...The Ridge.  This afternoon, a potentially massive snow storm is approaching from the North.  If you had a home on The Ridge, you could watch all the storms come in and get "psyched" for the greatest powder skiing on the planet the next day!

sandpoint: THE RIDGE AT SCHWEITZER...this ain't no's BETTER! - 12/14/10 09:55 AM
This is a combination new listing post and regular blog post.
My wife, Jerri, and I represent The Ridge at Schweitzer…a spectacular ski mountain development at Schweitzer Mountain Resort with drop-dead views of Schweitzer’s ski runs with the addition of views of Lake Pend Oreille and surrounding mountain vistas.  The prices on The Ridge afford the opportunity to actually attain the dream (so many of us have) of owning ski area real estate either as a primary home or vacation home.
Jerri and I used to live in Aspen, Colorado and were committed to making Aspen our lifelong home.  … (7 comments)

sandpoint: Watch for the government's BAIT & SWITCH for first-time home buyers! - 10/29/10 01:02 PM

Watch for the government's BAIT & SWITCH for first-time home buyers!
I love being a hero.  I sold a great home to a wonderful couple in 2009.  ...their dream home, in fact, and they have no plans to let it go.  Life is good for these first-time home buyers.  They got their tax credit, paperwork went smoothly...the system actually worked.   ...or so we all thought.
As we know, the economy has not been our friend the last several years, hence the introduction of the First-Time Homebuyer Tax Credit (FTHBTC).  In these trying times, people have had to be rather creative … (41 comments)

sandpoint: Fishing for buyers will eventually turn men into philosophers. - 10/03/10 01:00 PM
I never was much of a fisherman...even though I live on Lake Pend Oreille, home to some of the best trout fishing in the country.  (Check out Seagull Charters here on the lake to book your next outing!).  I always gravitated toward activities that I felt I could control more easily... tennis, hiking, climbing, skiing, etc.
That's why I find it interesting that I have chosen real estate as a career.  It's really a lot like fishing...
I find my favorite "hot spot" (Schweitzer Mountain - Sandpoint, Idaho), educate myself to be the best "fisherman" (Realtor) I can be (Brokers' classes, … (7 comments)

sandpoint: Speechless Sunday: SANDPOINT EVENING SUNSET AT CITY BEACH - 09/26/10 04:31 AM
We are enjoying (finally) some spectacular Fall weather here in Sandpoint, Idaho.  It's tough to beat this shot taken on the lawn of Trinity Restaurant at City Beach.  (Not a bad spot to enjoy a meal or a beverage on the deck on a warm evening like this).

sandpoint: The art of negotiation. The secret to survival. - 09/14/10 11:01 AM
A few years ago, a former business acquaintance of mine in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area, Harvey Mackay, wrote the book, "SWIM WITH THE SHARKS WITHOUT BEING EATEN ALIVE".  This book is an effective primer for anyone trying to earn a living in this world and there are sections that really relate to our business of real estate.
I find that in this economic climate, the art of negotiation may be the deciding factor in whether a buyer and seller can come to terms.  Harvey hits the nail-on-the-head with his quick overview of negotiation strategy and it would serve us all well … (8 comments)
