international: The value of our dollar

This article astounded me. It sounds like we are not in very good standing in the world ecomony but Im not sure. If you consider we could stand alone, use our own food supply, our own oil, move towards more oher energy sources, and buy and sell to ourselves our dollar value would be much stronger.
