greenville: Turning the Corner - 08/21/08 12:24 AM
According to Realty Times, pending sales are way up!  It seems we may be seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.  These new numbers should only improve as first time buyers may start to take advantage of the $7500 tax credit.  I have been sending this information to every renter I can find, as I am sure most are not aware this is available to them. From the Realty Times:
On a national basis, the index jumped by 5.3 percent last month. But more importantly, it rose in every region of the country, suggesting that the turnaround underway is broad-based -- even if … (10 comments)

greenville: Imagine the possibilites! - 08/17/08 02:09 PM

Talk about alternative energy! This is pretty creative! The Solar Powered Necktie!
Look Sharp and Geeky at the same time!
Now a group of researchers at Iowa State University have created a necktie using newly developed solar fabrics. The neat thing, is that the tiny solar panels are arranged in a grid that looks kind of like what you might see on a tie anyway. There's even a pocket sewn into the back where you can stash the device you're charging.
Wonder what would happen if I wrapped my car in that stuff....Imagine the possiblities...

greenville: Two Blind Pilots - some mid week humor.... - 08/12/08 09:14 AM

Two blind pilots were both wearing dark glasses. One is using a guide dog and the other is tapping his way along the aisle with a cane.  Nervous laughter spreads through the cabin, but the men enter the cockpit,   the door closes and the engines start up. The passengers begin glancing nervously around, searching for some sign that this is just a little practical joke. None is forthcoming.  The plane moves faster and faster down the runway and the people sitting in  the window seats realize they're headed straight for the water at the edge  of the airport. As … (9 comments)

greenville: Too great not to share - 08/10/08 12:27 PM
A son asked his father, 'Dad, will you take part in a marathon with me?' The father who, despite having a heart condition, says 'Yes'. They went on to complete the marathon together.  Father and son went on to join other marathons, the father  always saying 'Yes' to his son's request of going through the race together. One day, the son asked his father, 'Dad  let's join the Ironman together.' To which, his father said 'Yes."  For those who didn't know, Ironman is the toughest triathlon ever. The race encompasses three  endurance events of a 2.4 mile (3.86 kilometer) ocean swim,  followed by a 112 mile (180.2 … (5 comments)

greenville: Jack is Back!! - 08/03/08 12:57 PM

One of my favorite shows, 24, will be back on the air in January '09.  That seems eons away, but there will be some relief on November 23rd when 24 - Exile, the 2 hour movie will premier.  The movie will be the run up to the new season 7 and will fill us 24 fans on what Jack has been up to for the last year.
The new season will take place in Washington, DC instead of LA and will usher in the first woman President.  There will be some new faces including Jon Voight.

greenville: International Buyers - 07/30/08 10:43 AM
According to newly released survey by NAR, International buyers are playing an increasingly important role in market share.  We here in Greenville can attest to that as we are host to several International corporations including BMW and an expanding GE.  Here is some of what  the survey had to say:
The survey found that a typical international buyer purchased a single family home for vacation purposes at $297,400 with mortgage financing, and stayed at his/her U.S. property for 2.6 months. At first glance, this seems rather similar to domestic buyers, but in fact international buyers are quite different from domestic buyers.

greenville: Greenville Rocks!! - 07/18/08 01:17 AM
What a great way to start the day! Checking Realty Times, as I often do, it was wonderful to see an article titled HOT MARKET which is a feature about the Greenville-Spartanburg area.  The piece talks about how we are not, and have not followed the national downward trends regarding job growth and real estate.  According to the article, home prices are up 6%, pending sales are up, commercial vacancies have dropped 18%!  It also states that while banks around the nation are having trouble, local banks here are constructing new headquarters. Read it for yourself.... Realty Times, Hot Market

greenville: Greenville'S Growing! Simpsonville's a Hot Spot! - 07/10/08 08:59 AM

Apparantly, many people realized this was a great place to live - even before we were voted 4th best place to live.....
Greenville County grew by 2.8 percent between 2006 and 2007, reaching a population of 428,243, and was the state's fifth-fastest growing county, with Spartanburg, Anderson, Pickens and Oconee counties all in the top 16.
Simpsonville was the Upstate's fastest growing community, and Easley, Fountain Inn and Clemson made the top 25, the census shows.
Greenville County Council Chairman Butch Kirven attributed his county's growth to being "ahead of most of the state in converting its economic base from … (2 comments)

greenville: Lowball Offers - 06/22/08 01:23 PM
I was reading a piece on Bankrate.com regarding a debate on lowball offers.  It said conventional wisdom claims that lowball offers don't work and homebuyers are warned not to insult the sellers.  And those sellers are counciled not to counter offer "disrespectful" buyers.  Are you buying that?  I guess it would depend on what area of the country you are in, but according to a realtor in Coral Springs, FL, an offer that is less than 25% of the listing price is a lowball offer.  So what is a lowball to you?  One defintion is an offer so low that the … (13 comments)

greenville: Paint the Perfect Sale - 06/22/08 01:01 PM
Getting your home ready to close the deal for the most money starts with knowing were to begin - and most often, that means, quite literally you have to paint the perfect sale.
Things like wallpaper and paint color can significately influence buyers.  Warm neutral wall colors are a sure bet as well as removing dated wallpaper.  Stripping wallpaper can be both tricky and time consuming.  If not done correctly, you risk damaging the wall beneath.  In some cases, priming the wallpaper with an oil based or aklyd primer will seal the surface and allow you to paint over it with … (1 comments)

greenville: The "Boomer' Niche - 06/19/08 12:59 AM
The baby boomers (those born 1946 - 1964) make up 26% of our population. (78 million!)  According to the latest NAR survey, 70% of those will be buying a second home this decade. 54% will be buying in their current state, looking for vacation homes within a 3 hour drive from their primary residence.  46% will be looking outside of their state.  What do they want?  50% are looking where watersports are available (beach and lakes), with 37% specifying fishing and boating.  They are also interested in media rooms and extra space for aging parents and visiting grandchildren. What do we … (3 comments)

greenville: Great Chinese Proverbs - 06/18/08 01:01 PM
He who strikes the first blow, admits he's lost the argument.
He who asks is a fool for five minutes, he who does not ask is a fool forever.
If heaven made him, earth can find some use for him.
If you don't want anyone to know, don't do it.
Enjoy yourself. It's later than you think.
