Great news! The city of Gary revealed on May 18 that there are grants available to Gary residents in amounts up to $15,000. To qualify residents must live in target areas and have "low income". This program is curesty of US Department of Housing and Urban Development. The guidelines of the program state that in order for the homeowner will be eligible for $15,000 if the homeowner is doing exterior home improvement, and $25,000 for comprehensive home improvements. Recently, Rep Brown joined homeowners in their plight to determine why Lake County taxpayers received a zero check for their tax rebate. According to an article in the Times newspaper, the Lake County auditor was following orders from the state auditor. Lake County Auditor, Peggy Holinga Katona produced an email showing that the state auditor requested that she give Lake County's resident credit for the 9.7 million that homeowner received from the two percent circuit breaker. Criminal take most of their time coming up with the next scam. Well, this one is no different. In Chicago area, there is a scam where an inmate calls a citizen using a collect call. Then, if the citizen accepts the call the inmate hijacks the citizen's phone number. The basis of the scam is that the inmate calls several numbers collect and pose as a police officeer stationed at the jail.
