As you may have guessed by now, I’m traveling and am currently in Austria. We were in Venice today and wanted to take one of the horse drawn carriage rides that we saw throughout the Plaza. Since the ride was 40 minutes long, we had plenty of opportunity to chat with the driver. He answered all our questions about the history of various building then said he had a question of his own.
It was quite amusing that upon learning that we were from Hawaii, he asked if it was true that the favorite food in Hawaii was canned meat! … (2 comments)

I hope everyone is enjoying this long Fourth of July weekend. We’ve had a mix of rain and sunshine but still managed to put in some time at Anini, which you’ll see in the pictures at the end. July is off to a great start with 11 sales already! The target for this month is 93, a number which has been steadily increasing since 2011 when there were only 59 sales. In 2012 there were 72 so we’re moving up for sure.

June 2014 made a valiant effort to meet or exceed June 2013 sales stats but so far, is falling short with 92 sales as of today, Sunday. The record from last June is 98. All we need is 6 closings on Monday!!! I had one scheduled for that day but it unfortunately got set over to July 1! Think we’ll see 6 closings on Monday? I don’t know, but what I do know is that I’m quite impressed with how June rallied. Hopefully the rally will continue into July. Here is what happened this past week:

This past week provided plenty of excellent beach time – if you didn’t take time to enjoy just relaxing by the water, today is presenting you with yet another opportunity. Apparently the buyers were at the beach also as only one condo went into escrow, although three others closed. As for houses, there was minimal activity, with three new listings, one that returned to the market and an expiration. Take a look:

Things really picked up this past May, posting 110 sales, which is the highest number for this month since May of 06 which had 165 transactions! Compared to last May, which only had 85 sales, May 14 showed a 29% increase. Good start for the hot summer selling season.
Year to date there have been 441 sales, which is only an 12% increase over this time last year with 395 sales. Vacant land had the biggest increase going from 12 sales last May to 28 this May, while homes and condos posted a 12% and 16% increase respectively.

If you’re on Island and looking for something fun to do next Saturday, the 7th, the Hanalei Canoe Club is having it’s annual Haena to Hanalei Run/Walk and Pancake breakfast.
What’s so special about this event is the opportunity to traverse this spectacular 8 miles by foot so you can take in all the views. Plus, there are Pancakes waiting for you at the end.

Happy Mother’s Day! Hope each and every one of you are having an extra special day. We’ve had hot and sunny, although quite muggy and humid, weather this week along with a good dose of VOG. If you are unfamiliar with the term, it is basically “volcanic air pollution.”
Wikipedia gives the following detailed definition: “Vog is a form of air pollution that results when sulfur dioxide and other gases and particles emitted by an erupting volcano react with oxygen and moisture in the presence of sunlight. The general feeling is there’s been a bit of a market slowdown, an opinion supported by April stats which ended up with 93 sales compared to 124 last April. For May, the goal is 85 and already there are 10 sales, which gets us off to a good start. Activity for condos was across the board with a little bit of everything. Take a look for yourself:

Finally, sunshine today! There was activity in both houses and condos this week but with only 75 sales as of today, it’s doubtful this April will surpass the 125 sales posted in April 13. There are 43 properties that are “under contract” and all of these, plus some of the properties still showing as “in escrow” would have to quickly close to achieve the goal.
As for Princeville condos, there are 69 active listings ranging in price from $340K for a 1 bed / 1 bath Sealodge up to $2.250M for a newly listed Ka’iulani. The breakdown is as follows: … (0 comments)

Finally, the sun has come out! The last couple of days there’s been a “weather system” hovering over the Island, which brought very cool temps, (in the 60′s) wind and rain. Today the sun is trying to dominate but it remains questionable as to if the sun or rain will win out.
The weather didn’t slow down the market, which had a strong showing in condos with 4 new listings, one of which came on the market showing as in escrow while another went into escrow within a day of coming on the market. Three others units found … (0 comments)
