colorado springs: 100 percent chance of Snow - 04/15/16 01:06 PM

The horses are fed, the barn is closed up tight and I'm wondering how much snow are we going to get this weekend in the Palmer Divide area which is to the North of Colorado Springs and south of Denver.     The weather report said there is a hundred percent chance of snow.   The estimated snowfall might be between 12-24 inches depending on the news source.    When my gates, fences and landscaping plus wind are factored into the equation, sizable snow drifts are likely at my house.   In other words, I'll be snowed in.

Last weekend was … (10 comments)

colorado springs: Market Analysis for Peyton, CO - a Popular Area for Horse Owners - 02/15/16 06:31 AM
Market Analysis for Petyon, CO.   Peyton is a nice little town that lies about 45 minutes to the North East of downtown Colorado Springs.   The area has a very diverse landscape that includes views of Pikes Peak, Bijou Basin, and rock formations.   Some of the lots are covered in pine trees.  Other lots in Peyton have no trees or just a few trees.

Most homes that sell in Peyton are on lots that range from 5 acres to 35 acres.     The area is very popular with horse owners.   For example, about half the homes that … (8 comments)

colorado springs: See It. Experience It. Live It. - 09/28/14 05:07 AM
See It.  Experience It.  Live It.

I first came up with this slogan because it described how this Texas gal came to live in Colorado.    First, I got to SEE Colorado in pictures.  I even drove through it once.  I thought Colorado was pretty but there are a lot of really pretty places in the world.

I then had the opportunity to EXPERIENCE Colorado Springs.  After jogging through the Garden of the God’s, climbing the Incline and exploring Manitou Springs and downtown Colorado Springs, I was hooked.   I noticed that there were also a lot of horse … (26 comments)

colorado springs: 5 Reasons Why 3,422 People Ran a 5K on a 35 Degree Morning - 11/30/13 11:42 PM
Coming from Texas, I still think 35 degrees is cold.  Yet these photographs, taken in Colorado Springs at the 16th Annual YMCA of the Pikes Peak Region Turkey Trot,  demonstrate why running a 5K in  cold weather can be a lot of fun!  (Actually on Thanksgiving morning, the 35 degree weather with no wind was great weather for a race.)

1. The Turkey Trot is a fun Thanksgiving tradition.

2.  With so many people running, there are plenty of things to look at.   As result, those of us that are comparatively out of shape don't have as much time to notice how tired we … (10 comments)

colorado springs: Loyal dogs, a beautiful mountain sunrise..... - 11/12/13 01:45 PM
Loyal dogs, a beautiful sunrise, fresh crisp air and spectacular scenery.  This photograph illustrates what I love about living in the Colorado Springs area.   It was taken last Saturday at Palmer Park, which is just to the east of downtown Colorado Springs.  It is still very much in the "middle" of Colorado Springs.  Coming from College Station, Texas which is flat, sometimes I find it hard to believe that this beautiful place is actually my home.

In Colorado Springs, hiking trails and open space are highly valued.  Pets are cherished family members.  For those of us that are photographers..... living in Colorado Springs … (11 comments)

colorado springs: Want to improve your photography skills? Consider a Meetup Group - 11/06/13 10:53 AM
Photographs and videos are an extremely important part of our marketing efforts.  This year, I have made a concentrated effort to improve the quality of my photographs which I hope will in turn help my video marketing also.
In May, I joined the Colorado Springs Creative Photography Meetup.Com group.   http://www.meetup.com/creative-photography/ .  This group was one of a number of groups  in the Colorado Springs and Denver areas on Meetup.com that offer photography classes and photo outings.   Meetup.com is a large networking site with over 9,000 groups in communities all over the U.S.  So, there may Meetup's in your area.
Everyone from beginners to professionals seem … (5 comments)

colorado springs: Air Force Vs Army: Falcon Fans - Very Happy - 11/02/13 01:13 PM
College sports is one of the perks that comes along with living in Colorado Springs.   Colorado Springs is home to Air Force Falcons, Colorado College and University of Colorado at Colorado Springs.

Last week, Air Force football fans were very unhappy.  Many left the stadium before the game ended.  Notre Dame beat them soundly.  Of course my son and all of the other Notre Dame fans were very happy. (ok,  I'll admit it.  I cheered for Notre Dame.  A lot of my money has gone to Notre Dame.)

Today was different.  Army and Air Force were better matched.   Fans from both … (2 comments)

colorado springs: Garden of the Gods Lake - 2 Reasons Photographers Love It. - 09/23/13 10:04 AM
Years and years ago, there was a reservoir/lake at the Garden of the Gods.  An old man that lived in the area since the 1970's said that he had never seen the water in the old reservoir.  I met a photographer that drove down from Boulder to photograph the lake.  He was telling me that  in the 1990's, the drainage in the Garden of the God's park was changed in the midst of other improvements.  He said that the Visitor's Center personnel told him that the reservoir would never hold water again.  The recent rains in Colorado certainly proved them wrong.
Last week, I happened to see a few beautiful photographs of the lake and wanted … (13 comments)

colorado springs: Amazing picture- The Cliff House in Manitou Springs 2 days after flood - 09/22/13 03:23 PM
Today was the first day of fall.  It is 10:30 and the wind is howling outside.  The temperature has dropped to 55 degrees.  As a look at a picture that I took of The Cliff House, an upscale hotel in Manitou Springs, I find myself amazed that summer is gone.  I also am amazed at how resilient Manitou Springs is.
I saw a picture in our local newspaper that showed flood waters gushing up out of a sewer drain next to the Cliff House.  The waters looked like a two story high muddy mushroom.  In the following video that I just … (10 comments)

colorado springs: Have you seen the lake at Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs? - 09/20/13 03:09 PM
"I've lived in this neighborhood since 1974 and I've never seen anything like this."
"Just wait until tomorrow morning, photographers will be lined up along the lake."
"In our PE classes, we used to run out here.  This is the first time that I've ever seen a lake out here."
"I heard that General Palmer had built a reservoir here.....He was a smart man."
"You didn't miss anything yesterday morning, it was too windy so the lake wasn't smooth."
"The water was blue in the pictures that I saw on the internet.  Either they photo-shopped it or the blue sky was … (5 comments)

colorado springs: Rejuvenate....a perspective from Colorado Springs - 09/17/13 11:11 PM
What does it feel like to live in a place that has made news headlines repeatedly since June?  For me, I feel wearied.  I also feel proud of how resilient our community is.    It is also an unfortunate that it is easy to look around and find someone who is even worse off than we are.

I've taken pictures of the fires and fire damage.  I've taken pictures of the floods and flood damage.  Yet those are not the pictures that I want to share.

colorado springs: Colorado Balloon Classic- Worth the 5 am Wake Up Call - 09/05/13 12:11 PM
On Monday morning, Labor Day, I drug myself out of bed at 5 am. I quickly got dressed.  I grabbed a cup of coffee and dashed out the door hoping that I wasn’t going to be late for the 37th Annual Colorado Balloon Classic that was being held at Memorial Park in Colorado Springs.   All across town, other families were doing the same – except many had kids.   We all wanted to be at Memorial Park for the mass ascension of dozens of hot air balloons.

The Colorado Balloon Classic is the largest hot air balloon event in Colorado.   It … (10 comments)

colorado springs: Profiles of People: The Sexiness of Sweat, Dirt and Grime - 08/23/13 03:52 AM

People are the heart of a community.     Colorado Springs attracts people that choose to run for fun and to hike for miles.   As one of those people, I can say that we appreciate the adventures and the challenges that the mountains and open spaces provide.

Unfortunately, last year the Waldo Canyon fire started near a favorite hiking trail.  The fire burned over 18,000 acres and destroyed 350 homes up in the mountains on the west side of Colorado Springs.   As result, every time it rains over the burn scar we have to be aware of the STRONG potential for flooding … (23 comments)

colorado springs: What is the Front Range? - 04/01/13 11:01 AM
What is the Front Range?  If you spend much time in Pueblo, Colorado Springs or the Denver Metro area you are bound to hear people talk about the Front Range.    What is the Front Range?

The Front Range is the most eastern mountain range that is part of the Rocky Mountains.   It runs between central Colorado up into Wyoming.

Front Range urban corridor:   It seems to me that most of the times when people talk about the Front Range they really discussing the Front Range urban corridor.  The Front Range urban corridor … (7 comments)

colorado springs: Colorado Springs, the Olympics, James Bond - 03/24/13 03:25 AM
Colorado Springs, Olympics, James Bond

Downtown Colorado Springs is proud to be the home to the Unites State Olympic Committee and a United States Olympic Training Center.

I missed the summer Olympics last year. I don't watch TV and I couldn't make it to London last year.    Just today,  I discovered the video of James Bond/Daniel Craig escorting the 85 year old Queen Elizabeth II to the opening ceremony of the Olympics last summer.

Although I was unable to embed the official video, you can watch it at the following link.

colorado springs: The Bitter Pill: Why Medical Bills are Killing Us - 03/12/13 02:53 PM
“The Bitter Pill:  Why Medical Bills are Killing Us”

Have you read the Time Magazine’s Special Report, “The Bitter Pill: Why Medical Bills are Killing Us” by Stephen Brill?  Over the last two days, I’ve had three experts in the Health care industry recommend this article.  Have you read it yet?

One person was a health care researcher on from the East coast.  The other was a board member on of the Penrose-St. Francis hospitals in Colorado Springs.  The third was the CEO of the University of Colorado Health’s Memorial Hospital.

Bottom line-

colorado springs: The 4 Best Restaurants in Downtown Colorado Springs - 03/04/13 03:37 PM
Downtown Colorado Springs has a lot of great restaurants.    However, some restaurants seem to keep drawing me back over and over again - for various reasons.    We are eight weeks into 2013.  Each of the following restaurants is so good that I have already eaten there at least twice this year and am looking forward to my next visit.  They are all easy to find.

The Famous – A Steak House

The Famous – A Steak House is my favorite fine dining restaurant in Colorado Springs.   Their service and … (6 comments)

colorado springs: Can you put a price tag on the mountain view? UCCS Colorado Springs - 02/28/13 11:21 PM
Can you put a price tag on the mountain view that you can see from the UCCS Colorado Springs campus?
How much is that mountain view in Colorado Springs worth?  Can you put a price tag on the nice views in general?

I suppose the actual price of the view depends if you are booking a hotel room, buying a house, purchasing an office building or planning to work in the Colorado Springs area.

For example, UCCS, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs, plans to add a few new faculty members.  Potential candidates should be … (7 comments)

colorado springs: Top Gun- a school that takes the best and makes them even better. - 02/24/13 01:42 PM
This post is for a fun contest on Active Rain.  Yet, I hope that each real estate professional that reads it will choose to strive to be a lifelong student, continually working to become even better.
For my version of Top Gun - I am accepting suggestions for who plays which part.   Most real estate professionals have egos very similar to those of fighter pilots.  We all want to be the best.   Yet we must work together as part of a team.  (Watch the opening scene of Top Gun.....notice how many people are involved in addition to the pilots.)  A real estate transaction … (11 comments)

colorado springs: Ignorance is Bliss or is It? - 01/26/13 01:24 PM
Tonight after finishing an enjoyable dinner in downtown Colorado Springs, I walked past a man sitting in the dark on the side of a building.  It was about 40 degrees outside.  He had a terrible cough. I assumed he was homeless. I walked by and acted as if I didn't see him.

 Why would I do that?
If I don't see him does that mean that I don't have to feel guilty for not offering to help him somehow?

If I don't see him maybe I can pretend like Colorado Springs doesn't have a problem with … (9 comments)
