humane society of the pikes peak region: Motivation doesn't last? - 01/24/13 01:47 PM
People often say that motivation doesn't last. Well, neither does bathing-that's why we recommend it daily. – Zig Ziglar Ok, I'm going to be honest. We are day number 14 in the 2013 BIG Blog Jumpstart Challenge and there are 7 more days to go. Tonight I'm tired. I'm distracted. I thought about not writing a post tonight.  I could just quit.  It's hard coming up with a quality post when you are tired and distracted.   I’m distracted because I’m bringing home a 10 month old Great Pyrenees pup tomorrow after she has been spayed.  She is a 60 pound pup that I … (15 comments)

humane society of the pikes peak region: Dropping Pets Off at a Ranch or Horse Boarding Stable: Don't - 04/23/12 09:47 AM
Pets.  We love them.  They make us smile.  They make us laugh.  They make us cry sometimes.   They can be so loveable.  Sometimes unforeseen circumstances come up that would cause a person to be unable to keep their pet.  Unfortunately, it has happened to me before.  What happens if you can't find a new home for your pet?

Please do not dump your pet on the side of the road or at the entrance to someone’s ranch or horse boarding stable.

Just because someone has a ranch or stable does not mean that they will be able to care for another cat … (9 comments)

humane society of the pikes peak region: Cat in Charge of Rodent Control - 04/23/12 07:23 AM
Do you ever have problems with mice or rats?  Most of us that live out in the country do.  That is just one of the things that go along with living out in the country.    Cats are one of the very best, natural ways of controlling the rodent population.   I've always felt that  every barn needs at least one cat.    Cats are also good at reducing the number of birds that want to roost in your barn.

The Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region, which covers the Colorado Springs area, has a program called "Barn Cat Buddies."  Through this … (19 comments)

humane society of the pikes peak region: When you fall in love..... - 09/15/11 03:00 PM
When you fall in love, you can never really explain exactly how it happens.  It just does.   For example, one day, I found myself at a PetSmart store in Colorado Springs.  There were these two solid black cats in one cage that were up for adoption.  They were about a year old.

One of the cats was extremely timid.  The animal welfare group didn’t think they could find a home for her by herself.   As result, she and her sister were being adopted as a two for one deal.  Long story short, as I adopted those two cats, I … (12 comments)

humane society of the pikes peak region: So Ugly that He is Cute - 09/02/11 04:16 PM

“He is so ugly that he is cute.”  That is how I first described George to my friends and family.   George WAS so ugly that he was cute when I adopted him from the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region on Labor Day weekend last year.

The Humane Society in Colorado Springs is awesome.  They are open seven days a week.  On Saturdays and Sundays their hours are from 11-4:30.
That gives people like me the most opportunity to find the perfect pet.  It also gives the animals the most opportunities … (11 comments)

humane society of the pikes peak region: Active Rain Photoblogger Contest: Why Did You Leave Me? - 05/09/11 05:58 PM
Why did you leave me?
I'm scared without you.   I love you.  I thought you loved me too. It seems like it was just yesterday that you brought me home.  You were so excited.   You just bought your new house.   You said a cat made it feel more like a home.    At that time, I was just a little kitten.   I remember, you always told me that I was so cute and playful. You said that I had the pinkest nose you have ever seen.

When you started bringing in boxes, I enjoyed exploring them.  I thought they were FUN.  … (60 comments)

humane society of the pikes peak region: Orphan Posts - 03/07/11 03:29 PM
Have you ever seen an orphan post?  I define an orphan post as one that has zero comments.  One that has hardly any comments probably would also qualify.  I hate coming across orphan posts, especially when you realize that the topic is something that the author truly cared about.  Many times, these posts belong to Active Rain newbies.  Other times, they are localism types of posts.  (I don't worry too much about listing posts that have zero comments.  Those are different.) The real orphan posts make me sad.
Gary Woltal is one of my favorite bloggers. (Gary Woltal's Blog)  Why, you might … (21 comments)

humane society of the pikes peak region: Find the Best in Today - 03/02/11 04:22 PM
Are you tired of the cold winter weather yet?  In Colorado Springs, there is another round of snow forecast for this Friday.  Now, for those planning ski trips....snow is wonderful.  But, I don't have a ski trip planned.   Instead, I'm ready to start working in my garden.  I'm ready to see some spring flowers.
However, I realize, we should all try to find the best in today.  We should try to enjoy the cool temperatures.  We should enjoy the beauty of a fresh snow.  In a few months, we will be looking for ways to cool down.  The following picture came to mind.
This dog was cooling down … (14 comments)
