photography: Would you clean up the dog poop?
- 04/07/14 11:26 PM
This morning Larry Lohrman's Photography for Real Estate blog post was, "How Far Woud You Go To Clean Up for A Real Estate Photoshoot?" A picture from a video clip is shown. Someone, I don't know if it was the photographer or the real estate agent, was cleaning up a huge pile of dog poop that was on the master bedroom bed. GROSSSSSSS. I'll admit, a photographer just can't overlook the poop on the bed. Do you just not photograph the master bedroom? The dog poop being on the master bed is troubling. However, I'm sure many agents have encountered indoor doggie (24 comments)
photography: A Chat with Roy Kelley about Photography and Social Media
- 04/04/14 11:47 PM
As a real estate broker, photographer and lover of flowers and gardens, I have always admired Roy Kelley. On his blog, Roy consistently shares information about his area and/or real estate. He almost always includes one or more gorgeous flower photographs. I origionally tried calling Roy as part of the March Cloudburst of You challenge but we ended up playing phone tag. Yesterday, while his wife Delores was out playing golf, I finally had the opportunity to chat with Roy on the phone for a few minutes. Not only was he nice and sincerely willing to share his knowledge, I found him to be very (9 comments)
photography: Real Estate Pictures That Are Too Dark

“I post bad real estate photographs of my listings on the MLS.” Who would admit to actually doing that? It is common knowledge that the vast majority of home buyers start their home search on the internet and that real estate photographs are extremely important. How many buyers look at every single listing? Generally, they flip through the photographs. If the pictures of the house aren’t desirable, it won’t make the cut. That said, it is really easy to go on the MLS and find lots of bad real estate photographs. Today, I was short on time. I only looked at (9 comments)
photography: Want to improve your photography skills? Consider a Meetup Group

Photographs and videos are an extremely important part of our marketing efforts. This year, I have made a concentrated effort to improve the quality of my photographs which I hope will in turn help my video marketing also. In May, I joined the Colorado Springs Creative Photography Meetup.Com group. http://www.meetup.com/creative-photography/ . This group was one of a number of groups in the Colorado Springs and Denver areas on Meetup.com that offer photography classes and photo outings. Meetup.com is a large networking site with over 9,000 groups in communities all over the U.S. So, there may Meetup's in your area. Everyone from beginners to professionals seem (5 comments)
photography: Images: Downtown Colorado Springs
- 03/27/13 01:48 PM
The photographic opportunities in downtown Colorado Springs are only limited by a person’s imagination or lack thereof.
I have found that taking lots of photographs has caused me to slow down and notice the beauty in my surroundings. As I seek to improve the quality of my photographs, I've been experimenting with taking photographs from different angles at different times of the day and in different lighting. In each of the pictures below, the warm lighting seemed to encourage me to linger just a few more moments.
A very cold evening. The 100 block of N Tejon St., Colorado Springs. (8 comments)
Home staging is a relatively new buzz word for making homes as appealing to buyers as possible to ensure a timely sale at the best price. In recent years, the benefits of having a professional, experienced and objective person to stage and photograph a home have received more attention. When you are selling a horse property, the inside of your home is not the only thing that needs to be staged. The horse amenities also need to be shown off to their fullest extent. The horse amenities should be staged and photographed. (12 comments)
photography: Photographs in the Light of Early Morning

Morning is an important time of day, because how you spend your morning can often tell you what kind of day you are going to have. DANIEL HANDLER (as Lemony Snicket), The Blank Book
Since so many home searches are done online, the quality of the photographs are extremely important.
Lighting can make or break a photograph. Lighting sets the mood. Lighting helps create the feeling.
I think there is something special about the light early in the morning. I'm continually experimenting with natural lighting in my photography.
Why would you want to be a better photographer? I want to become a better photographer because I think it will allow me to market homes, land and ranches better.
I want to become a better photographer because photography helps me appreciate the beauty that surrounds us each and every day.
I want to become a better photographer because photographs are a way of sharing what we see. I'm in the (16 comments)

Every once in a while, I see something or someone that really captures my imagination. With photography, you occasionally merge the image that your camera captures with the image that you recall in order to attempt to recapture the scene that you were so fond of.
These photographs were taken last Wednesday night at the Arabian Horse Association's Region 8 Championship Finals. The AHA Region 8 finals ran from Wed June 6, 2012 to Sat June 9, 2012. The show was held in the National Western Event Center (15 comments)
photography: If a picture is worth a thousand words, what are videos worth?
- 09/06/11 02:54 PM
We've always heard that a picture is worth a thousand words. I love taking pictures and I enjoy creating photo essays on Active Rain. However, I'm starting to wonder if a video MIGHT be more valuable in some cases. As a Realtor in Colorado, a big part of my marketing strategy is to sell the "Colorado Experience." For example last weekend, I attended the Colorado Balloon Classic's Balloon Glo. I left the event feeling like a little kid. I was so awed, so excited and so thrilled by what I had seen. I took so many pictures with my little Olympus (11 comments)
photography: The Beauty of Uninhabitable Areas

The Garden of the Gods Park remains on the top of the Colorado Springs area's "Must See List." The park is a National Natural Landmark with its towering, red rock formations made of sandstone. http://www.gardenofgods.com/yourvisit/index.cfm It is merely 6 miles from downtown Colorado Springs. Although it is very enjoyable seeing the Garden of the God's from the comfort of a car, the park offers plenty of opportunities to get out and actually experience it. There are a variety of walking, hiking and jogging trails available. Horseback riding and mountain climbing are also allowed. Each time I have gone out to the (6 comments)
