Unlike your typical elementary school at Arthur W. Edwards Elementary School, students come and students go. Arthur W. Edwards Elementary School, serves mostly military families in Cherry Point housing and it has always done a great job helping students transition in and out of school. The Havelock school, which opened in 1961, was named a No Child Left Behind Blue Ribbon School for 2008. The school was just one of six in the state to receive the national honor, said Principal Kathy Leffler. Our thoughts are with our military members and their families, as this is a difficult time of year to be separated. I wanted to use this opportunity to ask you to support numerous charity organizations that directly help our service man and women. In October, President Bush signed the fiscal 2009 defense budget which authorized a 3.9% pay raise for service members, which will take effect 1 January 2009. This represents a one-half-percent increase over Bush's initial request. So we can look forward to that in the coming year! I am optimistic that we will see lots of positve changes … (3 comments)
