Won't you help this young family?

In June of 2021, Kodah, our grandson, was born with a rare congenital disorder that is not curable. After 2 life flights, emergency room visits and a few hospital stays, he was finally diagnosed. The bills amount to more than $220,000.00. This July, Sebastian, Kodah's dad, fell and broke his neck, sustaining other life threatening injuries. His hospital bill is around $250,000.00.

He is unable to go back to work and will need several months to heal and then start physical therapy to regain muscle and become strong again. If you can donate, that would be a … (24 comments)

a mothers love: There's No Robbing a Momma Robin! - 05/15/22 09:28 AM
There's No Robbing a Momma Robin!

Along with the arrival of Spring, birds steadfastly prepare and then protect their egg ladened nests. Robins are extremely territorial, taking an aggressive stance to warn animals or people that come too close.

I have personally observed them in action while on the golf course, flitting in and out of bushes and trees or diving straight toward an animal, especially when trespassing into the restricted, Keep Out area.

McKenzie the Cat was strolling across our yard one day, when a Robin cut a direct path in the sky toward her with blazing speed! Surprised and shocked, she saw her, then jumped … (10 comments)

a mothers love: Love each other. - 12/04/18 08:32 AM
Love each other.

From the moment my first child was born, life instantaneously changed for the better, I became more focused and determined than ever to make a good - no great life, for him. There were plans to be made as I navigated my way through finishing college, then into a job position that would serve us well.

Okay, so far so good, then I was twice blessed with a second healthy, beautiful child as a single parent. With careful consideration, we moved across state lines from Colorado to Utah to take an advertising job. It meant more money and better working conditions with advancement opportunities.

My children have always … (26 comments)

How ah ye?

We have had the time of our lives with our son and daughter-in-law in Kailua, (How ah ye) Hawaii. This is the first time to visit, meet their friends, see how they live and enjoy some favorite places.

Oh! And our Gbaby girl, Peanut! How FUN is that?

From a parent's standpoint, we are proud of the wonderful life they have created together. Soon they will be transferred to the Washington State coast, where they will, once again, begin.

Aloha all!

a mothers love: Pay it Forward: It's a Wrap! - 12/16/15 07:52 AM
Pay it Forward: It's a Wrap!

Growing up destitute, we awoke to many Christmas mornings without gifts under the tree for the older ones in our family of eight children. An orange, an apple or a few nuts at the bottom of a sock were still appreciated because we knew the true meaning of the season.

There are so many children in communities around the the world who may not have items under the tree. Coins for Kids volunteers collect donations, shop, wrap and deliver the gifts to financial needy families. All this while knowing that children will be filled with sheer joy on Christmas!

They brought gifts to my boys the Christmas of 1996 … (20 comments)

a mothers love: Our youngest son turns 19 today. How many ways do we love him? - 08/03/14 02:29 AM
Our youngest son turns 19 today. How many ways do we love him?

1. A tow-headed baby who instantly grabbed our hearts and squeezed when born.
2. Who showed an independent streak soon after by feeding himself and giving up the bottle before he was 8 months old.
3. He gave us a scare by having lung surgery at a year old.
4. Was a two-fisted eater. One just wouldn't do for this little guy.
5. Has always smiled more on the inside, except for special occasions, like a monkey balloon hat!
6. Enjoyed playing by himself as much as he … (9 comments)

Can I see your bloomers?

A quick visit to the hospital gift shop to purchase the perfect bouquet yielded yellow and burgundy lilies along with bright red Gerbera daisies for a much loved person in our lives. It isn't the gift that makes the impact, it's the beaming face of the receiver!

Thinking of you mom, get well. ox

a mothers love: There is JOY in everyday occurrences! - 07/09/14 01:08 AM
There is JOY in everyday occurrences!
This was quite the challenge, I had a difficult time trying to pick only five people who have been BIG influences in my life. These are some memorable ones:

#1 - My mother Helen: Growing up in rural Georgia in the 60s, the result of a broken family, life was not easy for a divorced woman with 6 children. We were poor, picked on, called white trash and had to find ways and means to survive on a daily basis. Through her, I learned how to adapt and adjust to every situation that came about. She was a true survivor whose … (11 comments)

Because of You: A Mother's Day Tribute.
  Because of you.
  I can.
  Be me.

Thank you for loving me despite my deficiencies, inabilities and short comings.

Thank you for the confidence you carried for me when I had no strength to see through my own despair.
Thank you for saying time and again, the world does not revolve around me but that I do matter.
Thank you for teaching me honesty because it is the right thing to do even if it means standing alone.
Thank you for making me do my chores over and … (7 comments)

a mothers love: Count your many blessings. What are you Thankful for? - 07/12/13 12:01 AM

Count your many blessings. What are you Thankful for?

When my oldest son was still a small child, he would open the blinds first thing in the morning, look at me and say, "It's a beautiful day mom!"

No matter the weather. It could be hailing, sleeting, raining, blowing or snowing and the results were always the same. I am thankful for his ability to lean toward the brighter side on a regular basis. His attitude changed my outlook on life then and I still relate to this when life's challenges come front and center.

I have been blessed with a wonderful family. My … (9 comments)

Speechless Sunday (almost!): Feeling overwhelmed?

There are days when I feel like crying like a baby too! When things go wrong or past memories creep up while reminiscing about days gone by. Getting busy thwarts the all-out emotional outburst and today I choose to remember the happy times spent with my family on occasions such as today!

And while I may shed a tear or two, they are indeed spent well (No need to call the plumber!).

Happy Easter all!

a mothers love: The best gifts are those given with love. - 12/24/12 01:14 AM
The best gifts are those given with love.

Some of the things I cherish most are not the items bought from a store shelf or a clothes rack but instead something that is made with care and given from the most tenderest of places, the heart.

I hold few things dear but my emotions get the best of me every time I look at my boy's faces from a time that was simpler, where the "I love you's" came easy and the sweet hugs were plentiful. I keep telling young couples with children to hold tight to what is now because now becomes the … (16 comments)

HAPPY HAPPY 17th BIRTHDAY Spensyr!
Thank you for all the amazing memories and for being a wonderful son. Through the years, you have taught me many lessons of patience, the art of truly listening and filled my heart to overflowing with your sweet smile and unconditional love.
You never cared where we were going as long as you could go along and as the years passed, we got busy with school, sports and summer vacations.  Not once did I watch the clock to wish the day was over.

a mothers love: Don't let the sun go down without telling her you LOVE HER... - 05/12/12 03:27 PM
Don't let the sun go down without telling her you LOVE HER this Mother's Day.

Some may think the 3-word phrase, I LOVE YOU is overused in our society. To me, it affirms inner, caring feelings for those important in our lives. I tell my children and my husband that I LOVE THEM everyday. It is an emotional summation I carry for my family.

Every conversation I ever had with my mother ended with the words I LOVE YOU and the last 3 words to come from my mouth on her deathbed were I LOVE YOU. Not because she was quickly moving on … (20 comments)

a mothers love: Why should you never iron a 4-leaf clover? - 03/17/12 08:35 AM

Why should you never iron a 4-leaf clover?
You don't want to press your luck!
This silly joke reminded me one particular summer as a child, my mother told us kids if we found a 4-leaf clover, we would have 'good luck'! That sounded exciting so we all headed outdoors in search of 'good luck'. They soon left to do other things. I stayed, determined to find 'good luck'.
I found several 4-leaf clovers after lying in the grass on my stomach for many hours during several days, diligently separating the blades of grass. My skin itched badly but the excitement … (19 comments)

Motivational Monday: Looking ahead and planning accordingly
Usually by now we’re on the lake, poles in the water anticipating the next tug on the line. Cooler is stocked with food and drinks, music is playing, the day set for family time. Instead, my husband is working in the yard, our youngest son is at a friend’s and I am here attempting to write an inspirational post.
Our oldest will now begin his first full-time job in Pittsburgh and time off will come a few weeks a year. He begins a new chapter of his life while we adjust to the void … (20 comments)

Speechless Sunday (almost!): 18 years and this is what I have to show for it!

And I am so, so proud of the young man that he has become! Kind, generous and with a heart of gold is how others describe him. With a touch of humor that can lighten any mood and keeps me laughing through tears at times.

Sebastian will graduate from Dixie High School in two days and will travel to Pennsylvania to take a job shortly after. It will be the first time he has been away from home for more than a weekend … (31 comments)
