blooms: Hidey hole! - 08/14/14 11:28 PM
Hidey hole!
Do you have a favorite place that allows the mind and body to rest, somewhere away from everyday business, hectic deadlines and all other interruptions?

I found this honey bee's hidey-hole. At first I thought he was fastidiously working to gather pollen before setting off to another flower but instead, he was taking a much needed break. No one to bother him or nudge him on his way, as there are plenty of zucchini blooms in Nerdin Gardens to land upon.
Take your time little buddy, you work hard and deserve a little time to yourself. And hey! So do you.
Happy Friday, hope … (25 comments)

blooms: A beauty and the beast nature scenario. - 05/05/14 07:54 AM
A beauty and the beast nature scenario.

Oohing and ahhing visually rather than reaching out and touching these extremely delicate blooms will help keep you injury-free. Otherwise, the end results could be very prickly, not to mention painful to the utmost degree! Just to the underside of these ethereal flowers is an Echinopsis cactus armed with long spines used as a means of survival.

This is a beauty and the beast nature scenario at its best!

Happy Thursday all.

St. George Utah is SpRiNgInG into the SeAsOn!
A friend and I took a stroll yesterday with a little SpRiNg in our step to the downtown St. George Town Square to take a few photos of the new SpRiNg buds and blooms dotting the landscape. Their vibrant SpRiNg colors beckoned a closer look and we obliged!

Adieu Winter, welcome dew Spring!

The St. George, Utah area landscapes are be-speckled with bright yellow daffodils along with an explosion of white and pink blossoms at every turn. March showers brought welcome moisture to southern Utah, every surface appeared to be covered by sparkly jewels as the sun's reflection saturated every exposed layer, creating a glitter effect!
Happy Wednesday all, make the most of it.
I will if you will!

May the Bird of Paradise Fly Up Your No…Oh, so pretty!

Camera ever handy to snap those unexpected shots, I came upon a gorgeous tropical flower that just begged further inspection. It reminded me of the Toucan bird with its vibrant colorings and then I thought of a song my mom used to sing by Jimmy Dickens...May the Bird of Paradise Fly Up Your Nose!
Hope you all have a fantastic day, it's looking good from here!

Pretty purple people pleaser!
Without realizing this bloom was entertaining a guest as I arrived, the tiny spider in the center of the flower took a defensive stance, warning me off. I assured him I was not there to interrupt their visit, quickly took the photo and moved on. Ooh, Look there. A petite pink people pleaser!
Happy Wednesday all from southern Utah!

We're having a Blooming Party here in southern Utah and you're invited!

From my two-lips to yours!

A rose knows your nose will like!

This variety of cacti knows how to show off it's best features. Show off indeed!

Peace roses offer a tranquil presence, never loud and boisterous but ever so subtle. Simply gorgeous!

For several years, we have wondered if this tiny clematis plant would make it through every winter and finally bloom. Well, our curiosity was satisfied as it has finally flowered out.
Mother Nature and I hope you have enjoyed our Blooming … (16 comments)

Wordless Wednesday: My husband sent me flowers today!

This variety of cactus blooms only twice a year here in southern Utah and produces dinner plate size flowers in white, pink and yellow that grab the attention! Thank you honey for taking the time to stop during your busy day to think of me and send me these gorgeous flowers.
Hope you are having a wonderful day too!

Thankful Thursdays: My husband sent me forever roses!

Roses typically love the southern Utah Fall temperatures; cooler days with crisp evenings.

Yesterday my husband sent me flowers but left them intact for everyone else to enjoy as well.

Technology has made instant communication so easy and verstile. No need to clip these beauties or call and order them sent via florist. Snap and send!

Now if someone can invent a smell-a-vision app to also excite the olfactory senses, they'd really have something there!

Thank you honey for the beautiful flowers, no maintenance required as they will … (9 comments)

blooms: Look but don't touch! - 09/04/12 12:25 AM
Look but don't touch!

Pretty pink balls of fluff dotting the natural scape captured my attention as we stopped to gas up for the trip home from a day fishing trip. The razor sharp spikes in the leaves were less noticable as I approached and just as I reached out to feel the texture of the bloom, I thankfully refrained.
Nature justifies sustainability and I am not to question why. That is just the way it is and can respectfully look but don't touch!
Happy Day to you all!

Confessions of a Blatant Bloom-a-holic.

Hello, my name is Wanda Kubat-Nerdin. I am a Bloom-a-holic. A Blatant Bloom-a-holic.

Here is my testimony:
Their blooming scent, vibrant colors and exquisiteness are intoxicating, then reflexively, I reach for the camera, forsaking all present thoughts to gain instant visual gratification time and time again.

I have lain in the gutter, bringing attention to myself, ants crawling in private places rather not discussed, dead leaves entwined in my hair, camera in hand, to shoot a maze of tulips along the roadside.

Sweet success!

The Power of Flowers: Hand painted by nature.

Tiger Lillies are one of my favorite flowers, one day in slumber and the next they POP! with vibrant color and hearty blooms. The transition from Spring to Summer is complete and the new season is looking just as bright due to nature's ability to evolve quickly.
Whether orange, red, pink, yellow or white; they all are people pleasers and attention getters. Bloom on Tiger Lillies, bloom on!
You have certainly made my day.
The Power of Flowers!

Wordless Wednesday (almost!): I myself centered...

It is well-known that people who are self-centered tend to be selfishly engrossed in themselves to the point of being egotistical.   It is impossible for a flower to possess this human trait but would venture to say that I, myself, centered on this beautiful daisy that was independent of all the other surrounding flowers.   OK, so I admit that I am Crazy for Daisies!   Are you? Crazy? For daisies?   Happy Wednesday all!   ...............................................................

Speechless Sunday (almost!): Quiet confidence.

A beautiful bloom need not be bright and vibrant to capture one's attention, as in the case of these Gerbera Daisies. They are a pale orange that add a subtle hue to their surroundings. The deep forest green color of the leaves and onion chives make them a true standout.
No need to speak loudly or shout here. These flowers maintain their own quiet confidence.
Happy Sunday to you all!

Wordless Wednesday (almost!): Where the red & white meets the blue skies.

The southern Utah 10-day forecast calls for sunshine, clear skies with just a hint of cloud cover on 2 of those days. Just what the flowers need to bless us with their beauty. Even Mother Nature has patriotic tendencies...where the red & white meets the blue!
Happy Wednesday!

Wordless Wednesday (almost!): Form of Puffery

No bragging necessary when it comes to the blooms on this tree! Light and airy as the clouds passing by, they could easily be mistaken with a momentary look. My day seemed sweeter after encountering this unpretentious beauty.
Some may agree this southern Utah Crepe Myrtle is a form of puffery but most likely Mother Nature aiming to impress. And she does!
