family first for me: Thankful to Gather with Those Who Matter - 11/20/22 11:00 AM
Thankful to Gather with Those Who Matter

Family gatherings during the holidays has always been a priority. We are very traditional in our ways and are happy that our children recognize the importance of creating memorable moments for their little ones.

When the boys were growing up, we were up very early, a hearty breakfast was made, usually homemade waffles. We'd eat, chores were done and the kids left to play outside. Then we'd get busy baking and cooking.

Back in the day, my parents and brother would also join us for an entire day of catching up and feasting. We often ate outside … (22 comments)

family first for me: Won't you help this young family? - 09/26/22 10:28 AM
Won't you help this young family?

In June of 2021, Kodah, our grandson, was born with a rare congenital disorder that is not curable. After 2 life flights, emergency room visits and a few hospital stays, he was finally diagnosed. The bills amount to more than $220,000.00. This July, Sebastian, Kodah's dad, fell and broke his neck, sustaining other life threatening injuries. His hospital bill is around $250,000.00.

He is unable to go back to work and will need several months to heal and then start physical therapy to regain muscle and become strong again. If you can donate, that would be a … (24 comments)

family first for me: Happy Father's Day to All My Men! - 06/19/22 02:45 PM
Happy Father's Day to All My Men!

Ironing my dad's Army fatigues when he was still active military was the least I could do for a decorated Vietnam War Veteran. Thank you for loving my mom and taking on 7 kids. You sacrificed your wants and needs to ensure we had what was necessary, often working two jobs to provide.
You are my hero, my rescuer, my saving grace and will always remain in the most favorite part of my heart. Thank you for everything dad!

Thank you My Honey for being a fantastic father to Sebastian and Spensyr, for always putting our family … (14 comments)

family first for me: That wonderful wascally Easter wabbit! - 04/17/22 08:34 AM
That wonderful wascally Easter wabbit!

In an effort to close the geological gap that physically separates us from our children and grand babies, the Easter Bunny devised a family plan. He'd visit us in the back yard and we'd FaceTime everyone.

It worked out beautifully! No terrified faces, sudden uncontrollable crying, though one child did say he was a bit creepy! Happy Easter to all who recognize the day. May you always be surrounded by loved ones.

family first for me: Like seeds in a garden, sowing love matters. - 02/03/22 05:58 PM
Like seeds in a garden, sowing love matters.

A grandchild's giggle brings a smile. Knowing our children are successfully making their way in to the world warms the heart. My steadfast husband and life partner makes me laugh over a silly Valentine's Day card because we share the same humor...priceless.

I am indeed blessed and sowing the seeds of love trumps all else in my life. Soon Nerdin Gardens will come alive again...thinking Spring.

Happy Valentine's Day all, may you be surrounded in love, always!

family first for me: Santa knows. He just does! - 12/08/21 05:17 PM
Santa knows. He just does!

When our two sons were growing up, visiting Santa close to Christmas was a family tradition. There on his lap, they would share their biggest wishes & desires with a huge smile pasted to their faces.

Prior to the appointment, my husband would steal up, wait until Santa took a break and fill him in on both their names and explained what needed to be worked on, whether it was at school or home.

Most of the time, it was their room that looked ransacked daily. They both played sports and we seemed to be on-the-run quite frequently. Things … (31 comments)

family first for me: A reason. A season. Or life. - 08/05/21 06:24 PM
A reason. A season. Or life.   As the car pulls from the curb, seven+ years of memories invade my mind, tugging at the heart in an effort to extricate them from the extreme grief.   Today, little Rugerman, his mom, sister and brother will be driving to Iowa, their next place of residence.   Again, I say goodbye with a heaviness that might lighten upon his return. In the meantime, the soul well has become empty, in dire need of full-filling.   They say that people come into your life for a reason, a season or life. It is up … (13 comments)

family first for me: It's Official! Firstday has Replaced Thursday. - 08/02/21 06:44 AM
It's Official! Firstday has Replaced Thursday.

While Face-timing Little Miss Independent aka Kenslee Mae, (our just turned) 4-year old Gbaby girl, I asked when she was going to make a visit to come to see me and Popop.

She replied, "On Firstday."

I asked, "On Thursday?"

She said, "No Gma, it's Firstday!"

Firstday it is and I am so happy that her cute family will be here soon to make some lasting memories. Popop is excited to hold Baby Kodah, her little brother for the first time.

Happy Monday all...I may start calling it Moneyday...what do you think?

family first for me: Thankful for the bare necessities of life! - 11/19/20 09:13 AM
Thankful for the bare necessities of life!

Growing up in a large family, there were a number of struggles, especially when my mother became single, trying to raise 6 children and then after a failed second marriage, 7 children.

Living in poverty in the 60's in Georgia was difficult. A childless, well to-do aunt and uncle, wanted to adopt my sister and I. My mother refused to give it a thought and resolutely said NO!

Hand me down clothes from Goodwill and government commodities to eat became the norm. We were dressed and had full bellies every day and thankfully, (1.) the love of our mother.

(2.) My mother's older … (8 comments)

family first for me: Eating Fun Dogs in the Southern Utah Sun-shine! - 04/18/20 09:56 AM
Eating Fun Dogs in the Southern Utah Sun-shine!

Am so very blessed to spend time with my daughter-in-law Devyn and 2-year old Gbaby girl when possible. While out shopping for an extra special gift for our soon-to-be 6-year old Little Rugerman, Kenslee said she would like a fun dog, pwease.

So, we took a drive to the corn dog truck, where they make them fresh while you wait. They got a kick out of her saying "fun dog pwease", so did I! After getting our meal, Devyn lifted the hatchback and we sat enjoying lunch in the warm sunshine.

Hoping to go on another fun dog adventure soon, it's good … (20 comments)
