hiway: Pets are people too: Saying farewell to a beloved friend. - 05/08/14 11:05 AM
Pets are people too: Saying farewell to a beloved friend.   Yesterday brought much worry with a volley of questions that depended on whether a life continued on or came to an end. I am in tears due to the sheer anguish this day presented. What was thought to be a hairball was diagnosed as severe kidney failure. Life will never be the same from this day forward.   Hiway's Veterinarian, Dr. Esplin, treated me with respect and kindness from the heart, answering my concerns with care even if they had been asked a thousand times before. He and his office staff was more than willing to help. No judgments were … (8 comments)

hiway: Smell ya later! - 10/05/13 02:05 AM
Smell ya later!

While home owners with pets prepare their home to list on the market, keeping odors to a minimum is of utmost importance to net successful showings.

Something to keep in mind however is to be sure the deodorizers are pet friendly, preventing harm to their sensitive noses or potentially causing allergic reactions.

Recently, I purchased a room deodorizer that automatically sends out a spray of cinnamon apple scent to refresh the room. Little did I know that Hiway, our indoor cat would begin to sneeze, cough and have a runny nose.

Thankfully, I realized the problem quickly and discontinued its use and she … (26 comments)

hiway: Please say a prayer for Bronco and Hiway. - 04/03/13 10:04 AM
Please say a prayer for Bronco and Hiway.

Our Bronco has passed today. 14 good years we shared with him as the "Best Dog in the World" and was he ever! He greeted us with a fast and furious wag of the tail every single day of his life followed by wet kisses, no matter the circumstances. Last night Hiway managed to slip outdoors while we weren't looking and she is nowhere to be found.

Gone is my special friend who was happy to play fetch, act as my my home "Office Assistant" and who slept at my feet every night. We … (18 comments)

hiway: My Real Estate Assistant has a PHD! - 01/31/13 10:02 PM
My Real Estate Assistant has a PHD!
How lucky can I be to have such a distinguished helper in my home office? She graduated at the top of her class with a PHD (phenomenal disposition) at the Real Estate Acatemy!

She is a people pleaser and:
Maintains a great attitude of gratitude Will fetch items efficiently, no questions asked Never complains about her work load, no matter the task She would assist for free but I feel justified in paying her in snacks, plush toys and catnip. Everyone meet Hiway! She is a dream helper and I couldn't be happier to share my … (16 comments)

Wordless Wednesday (almost!): It wasn't me!

Someone ripped the toilet paper roll to pieces, shredding the paper from the bathroom, down the hallway into the living room? It wasn't me!Fang holes in the bread bag? It wasn't me!Claw marks on the new couch upholstery? It wasn't me!
Whoever did all that must have slipped out the kitty door right before you came home.

What do you mean we do not have a kitty door?

Uh...um...Nevermind!

hiway: Honor Your Assistant Day! - 07/19/11 02:33 AM

Honor Your Assistant Day!
In appreciation for all they do, it is important to acknowledge all the hard work day after day that an assistant provides to the office. They are willing to go the extra step to ensure that everything is humming, up-to-date and all deadlines are met.
My assistant:
Pays attention Never complains Is always on time Has a great attitude Loves to make copies Gets the job done every time She is always enthusiastic to take on what comes her way and loves her job. What would I do without her?
Many thanks to you Hiway, you … (20 comments)

Wordless Wednesday (almost!): Hey! Who turned out the lights?!

This time of year can bring many wonderful winter adventures and special memories of family fun! Unfortunately another situation that may occur is power failure. Be prepared! Be sure to place flashlights, matches and candles in easy-to-find locations (for you, not the little ones) to ensure you are able to move around your home without causing any bodily damage at night.

Call the utility company and get a time-line of repair or when power will be restored. Of course, if you're the cat, no worries!

hiway: Speechless Sunday (almost!): Move on... - 12/26/10 05:13 AM
Speechless Sunday (almost!): Move on...

Hiway steathily stalks the birds from a distance, 'eyeing' each one of them as they flitter here and there through the trees to the ground and then back through the trees again! I obviously interrupted her adventure as she quickly turned toward the back yard, intent on her work, therefore ignoring me.
Okay, I got the message...I'm moving on!

hiway: An unexpected gift creates a special 'Kodak Moment'! - 12/05/10 01:48 PM
When my husband rescued Hiway on the Interstate I-15 on ramp in Washington City, Utah, I had no idea the impact this kitten would have on our family! Two summers ago, my husband was returning to work from making a stop at The Home Depot, he noticed a blur of movement off the side of the road. Upon closer inspection, it was a tiny, tiny gray-striped kitten, emaciated beyond belief! He looked around for others but to no avail, came back to the truck, put the kitten on his shoulder, where she stayed and drove to the nearest convenience store for … (21 comments)

hiway: Speechless Sunday (almost!): Happy Halloween from Hiway! - 10/31/10 06:14 AM

Speechless Sunday (almost!): Happy Halloween from Hiway!
I love Halloween! It's the only time you are able to be someone else and not get arrested for impersonation!
The season is ripe for everything that goes bump in the night from ghosts to goblins to witches with warts and wide brimmed black pointy hats! I love them all! The excitement of getting dressed up and then hitting the neighborhoods, especially the ones that give good candy like *regular-size* candy bars.
Hiway is gearing up for big event as you can see here and wants to wish everyone a Happy Halloween!

hiway: Friday Funnies: It's my way because I'm Hiway! - 07/09/10 09:26 AM
Hey, everyone is entitled to a bad day, even our cat Hiway!
When she is on a terror, I just leave her be until she's ready to play a game of fetch or just wants a little love. By little, I mean very little! Cat lovers should know what I mean when they want some attention, you are notified by them.

Otherwise, be prepared for anything that may quickly, in a blur, come your way in the form of sharp nails and flying fur! I'd be crazy to mess with her when she looks at me like that!

hiway: Speechless Sunday (almost!): I am a stealthy hunter...moving quietly through the trees...unseen by all...oh! - 05/16/10 05:37 AM

It must be built-in curiosity that drives Hiway to explore. Every now and then, she slips outside unnoticed and doesn't go far before she's running, screaming back to the front door!  Meowing until someone lets her in. I was outside taking pictures of some flowers and she was stalking me, thinking I couldn't see her!
I played along and took this photo of her. She is pretty good at hiding...she'd be stealthy if only this tree was bigger!
Happy Sunday to you all!

hiway: Speechless Sunday (almost!): "A kitten is in the animal world what a rosebud is in the garden." ~ Robert Southey - 02/28/10 04:25 AM

Robert Southey, a poet in the 16th Century must have been blessed with the unpredictable lives of kittens! I have to say his quote about kittens is spot on because Hiway certainly has blessed our household. Her many colorful antics, never-ending playfulness and stalking tactics continues to brighten our home and our moods on a daily basis! We are indeed lucky to have her as a member of our family!

hiway: Speechless Sunday (almost!): Forever in blue jeans babe! - 01/31/10 02:47 AM

While doing laundry, we usually toss the jeans onto the back of the couch after taking them out of the dryer until we put them away. Hiway will jump up and curl into a ball and lay on the warm, toasty pants, taking advantage of the heat! Smart kitty!
This picture reminds me of the Neil Diamond song, Forever in blue jeans!
