maintaining a professional stance: Awakening a Resilient Mindset - 09/23/23 09:14 AM
Awakening a Resilient Mindset Azure skies abound. Clouds amass. Sun rays defend sudden, unforeseen turbulence. An all-encompassing storm swiftly takes a hard hold without invite, grasping, slashing, leaving in its wake, confusion, mayhem. Experiencing disappointment often presents an opportunity to grow, through adversarial situations, awakening a resilient mindset. Sincere intentions still reside in the outcome, fully aware that the future may hold promise. The nature of the real estate industry can be chaotic at best, emotions getting in the way of buyers and sellers when the desired result becomes unattainable. Time is necessary in creating a new path, for a new plan. Gaze upon the horizon. Here comes … (35 comments)

maintaining a professional stance: Friendly competition? - 08/31/22 06:36 PM
Friendly competition?

For many years, I worked for a large, local home builder, creating and then providing marketing and advertising materials to onsite real estate agents and the staff. I became friends with a few of them.

After starting a real estate career, I was unsure how to separate personal and business relationships. Shortly after, I learned very quickly that most local agents are the competition, not necessarily friends.

Would a friend...

The Face of Business or Alone and Crying, Crying, Crying, Crying...

Mike Cooper posted a video on Facebook regarding a woman who misspelled the word hamster - making it hampster. In a conversation with her boss, she adamantly insisted it was correct and once proved wrong, still refused to accept that, leading to a crying jag. After texting her mom for support at work, she turned on the speaker phone when her mom called, asking her to call the boss and tell her to stop being mean!

Which reminds me of a recent experience...

I stopped in to get approval for a cookie coupon design (for a mailer to clients) by the owner … (2 comments)

maintaining a professional stance: Dad blasted! - 08/30/18 06:38 AM
Dad blasted!

Been hit lately with a tirade by someone who simply had a differing opinion?

Sure wish people would think of how it feels to be on the receiving end before going off half-cocked. Besides, everyone online can see public post rants.

Do agents willingly put their clients, family and friends into a hot-head’s hands? Not this one.

Maintain a respectful stance in conversations, otherwise business may take a southern direction or permanent vacation with no return plans. Professionalism has its advantages, many, many more than the Other Side.

While its okay to have some FUN, it is not acceptable to demean or disparage!

maintaining a professional stance: When do you 'freak out'? - 02/10/18 11:47 AM
When do you 'freak out'?

If a buyer client must extend time-line to close due to a blip in underwriting, do you behave irrationally? Situations happen in our industry and if you bring drama, be prepared to deal with the ramifications.

A real estate transaction can be very emotional. We are the professionals who are expected to advise, relaying pertinent information that can affect the end result. The buyer(s) and seller(s) will decide the course to take.

There is never a good time to cop an attitude when something outside the scope of control happens. Allowing the lender and buyer time to sort things out, is a respectful practice. If all fails, the contract can be canceled.

Feel free to 'freak out' once the home records or … (14 comments)

maintaining a professional stance: Ask-hole free zone. - 08/05/17 06:21 PM
Ask-hole free zone.

By definition, ask-holes are adults who constantly ask for advice and then always do the opposite. They are time-suckers and toxic. Their lives are poorly managed and rather than rightfully earning business, they play out pity stories to friends, family members and potential clients.

My advice: Avoid ask-holes at all costs and if you see them coming, cross the street! You can also:
