nerdin gardens 2025: Queen Bees and So-Called Butterflies - 05/18/25 10:14 AM
Queen Bees and So-Called Butterflies

Many stories have been written about lessons learned from the saying, "The grass is greener on the other side." The reality remains...that, quite often what is over there is weed-choked, not being watered or consistently cared for, resulting in a huge mistake.

The person who strayed most likely is not welcome back either. What started out as a so-called butterfly turned out to be a flying cockroach instead, sucking the existing life out of anything it encounters, turning it into refuse, then on to the next greatest thing.

That's gotta sting! 🐝 🐝 🐝

So, my advice is: Appreciate what … (12 comments)

Here is an ode to my mom in heaven:

Nature Made by My Mom
My mom had a gardener’s heart,
Planting good in me from the start.
Showing me sunshine, inspiring dreams.
She helped me believe thru faithful means.
She sheltered me during inclement storms,
Teaching me to stand … (16 comments)

nerdin gardens 2025: A Bee's Livelihood - 04/07/25 06:18 PM
A Bee's Livelihood
Spring in southern Utah is a vibrant explosion of yellows, pinks, purples, blues, and whites and is a crucial time for honey bees!  Bloomers are vital refueling stations, providing food for their colony as busy bees flit from blossom to bloom.
These beautiful pops of color provide beauty for our eyes, but are also essential sustenance for honey bees. If only people the same work ethic and diligence as these these little industrial, hardworkers! For them, it is a matter of survival.
We are very thankful every day for these amazing creatures that do the work in Nerdin Gardens without complaint … (14 comments)

🌸🌷🌸 First Day of Springing Forth! 🌸🌷🌸

Mornings whisper of summer days to come,
Soft showers misting, where buds have begun.

Garden flowers burst in riotous colors so bright,
Sprouting up with vibrant hues, seeking the light.

High upon tree boughs, birds are sweetly caw-calling,
Singing in united celebration that Spring is reinstalling!

Daffodils, tulips and Gerbera Daisies are making a show of it by adding a multitude of colors to the local landscapes! It certainly does lighten the mood to see the bright pops of yellows, reds, oranges and pinks.

Each Moment is Spent

As each morning arrives, it can bring a set of challenges. Starting the day can be daunting for some, even when making the smallest of decisions. Purpose plays a large part in the reasons to get out of bed, to stretch the legs first thing in the morning with a brisk walk or in deciding what to eat, what to wear.

Corruption Grows In A Neglected Garden

Everything needs to be properly tended to and maintained, that includes close observation when backyard gardening. In some cases, a few weeds can hide in ignored areas, going undetected until they suddenly become a rooted stranglehold, choking off healthy plant material.

Even a dirt plot that has a balanced ecosystem can be attacked, changing the environment from healthy to weak, as corruption takes root. Pruning exposes noxious weeds, cutting back the opportunity of a hostile takeover. Active participation is necessary, no lazy standards allowed.

Remember to SPRING FORWARD or It Might Be...TOO LATE!

Set your clocks ahead one hour this Sunday to avoid showing up late and  missing something important, like church, breakfast with friends or showing houses to clients. If you show up an hour late to something like that, you will be kicking yourself...or someone else will be. Guaranteed!

Come on Spring, I do love this time of year!

Nerdin Gardens: An Awkward Flora Party

This morning, I overheard the tulips bragging about their 'cup' size. The lilies started blushing, the daisies rolled their eyes, the hyacinth began wilting and the daffodils, embarrassed, pretended to hear nothing and tried to figure out which way to face for the group photo!

The roses, usually a fragrant beacon were feeling a bit prickly, keeping their distance from the other flora, in their disdain. The ranunculus thought it ridiculous, reminding them that a sunshiney attitude was most beneficial for the betterment of all the plants and their audience.

Harmonious living within a garden atmosphere takes an … (14 comments)

Rooting for Love:   A Porcine Garden Tale

A chorus of sing-song trills and whistles filled the air from up on high. Seven plump piglets were born down below, into a sun dappled garden, where natural light filtered through the copse of leafy-burdened trees. Being of hearty lineage, the journey quickly began the moment their tiny hooves sank into the soft, damp earth.

One adventurous piglet, Percy, sniffed the fragrant petals of a nearby rose. A scarlet-caped ladybug tickled Penelope, while traveling across her back. Benson and Athena tumbled head over curly tails, their squeals echoing against the line of mature … (18 comments)
