As you can see from the picture, the Praying Mantis utilizes every angle possible when preying. Ten minutes prior to passing by this plant, she was hanging about, perfectly still, using stealth to prey for a meal.
 
Then 💥BOOM💥!
She strikes, capturing the yellow wasp that landed nearby.
 
Basic instincts play a huge part in the Praying Mantis's methodical success. Honest intentions, zero time off, little to no wasted efforts, no excuses, only the desire to survive and thrive daily in it's environment.

Her belly swollen with Praying Mantis eggs, this female is content to wait long periods on the underside of Hibiscus leaves for approaching food. Flying insects are attracted to this sweet, aromatic blooming plant. Soon she will find a location to create an ootheca, a hard, protective shell pod that houses the eggs. It is permanently attached to a stationary place, such as a branch, post or fence until spring arrives.
 
An adult female will lay 100 to 400 eggs that will hatch, releasing the nymphs, ready to hunt other small invertebrates once temperatures are conducive, ensuring another generation of master hunters.

Nothing amateurish comes to mind when thinking of these stealthy creatures. Every move is carefully planned for maximum gain. Never straying far from its perch, the praying mantis declares its territory, unchallenged.
 
Exuding the patience of a saint, while remaining perfectly motionless for extended periods of time, guarantees a meal is within short reach. Its long spindly raptorial forelegs are mainly used for grasping unsuspecting prey.
 
Happy to glimpse these wondrous living beings, though they spot me long before I notice them. A home garden's friend, they are a welcome sight and glad they feel at home just hanging around. Happy gardening all!
