professionalism in the real estate industry: 🎵 Looking for love in all the wrong places...🎶 - 02/20/23 10:10 AM
🎵 Looking for love in all the wrong places...🎶
A woman, dressed in skin-tight yoga pants and revealing crop top that highlighted recently augmented breasts, approached a worker in a subdivision. Handing out a business card, she breathily said her name, licking perfectly plumped lips, offering exclusive services to him and his friends.
His eyes held steadfastly to her heaving chest region with every labored breath, paying very little attention to what was being said.
Flabbergasted that she would proposition him like this in broad daylight with other people around, he finally asked..."Okay, how much?"
Oh horrors! She was extremely offended he would assume … (38 comments)

professionalism in the real estate industry: It's not about us. It's about them. - 04/05/22 09:08 AM
It's not about us. It's about them.

Ego has killed more sales transactions than most people realize. When taking a buyer couple to meet a builder, he leaned back in the chair, put his feet up on the desk and began to nonstop brag about himself.

The buyer knew what she wanted and it was wood floors throughout the entire 3,000+ square foot house. He insisted on putting carpet in all bedrooms. Walking to the car, she said, "He will not build our home!"

As agents, we know when working with clients, to keep personal feelings and egos from impeding progress. When agents make … (22 comments)

professionalism in the real estate industry: There are no short cuts in speed skating. - 01/07/22 04:25 PM
There are no short cuts in speed skating.

That being said, why do agents travel to outside markets to show properties, knowing full well they are real ill-prepared to open doors for their clients? Recently, I got a request to show a newly listed house.

I set it up with instructions on the eKey location. Last minute, I received a text that said the agent was unable to open the box because she lacks access to the local MLS, asking that the door be left unlocked.

She further stated that they were just at another property and unable to gain access. Is this agent … (20 comments)

professionalism in the real estate industry: Stupid is as Stupidous - 12/14/21 10:23 AM
Stupid is as Stupidous

Part of being looked upon as a real estate professional pertains to a higher level of conduct. An ever important aspect is how we are perceived by consumers and fellow colleagues. The lines often become blurred.

For example:
A Women's Council of Realtors meeting at a residence, later turned into getting naked and jumping into the homeowner's pool. While the people engaged in that activity thought it was okay. It really wasn't!
Agent fell short of honoring the agreement to specifically be present to show the home. Seller discovered that he was on an extended trip to Florida with his wife. … (34 comments)

professionalism in the real estate industry: WARNING: Train Wreck Ahead! - 06/18/21 09:58 AM
WARNING: Train Wreck Ahead!

Discussing necessary real estate documents down to the minutia with clients means all are on board with terms, expectations and timelines.  Experienced agents prevent communication breakdown further down the line by planning ahead, encouraging positive outcomes.

Mutual respect and courtesy among parties encourages optimum results. Occasionally, people feel the need to lash out or think they can wipe their feet on those who serve them. Not going to happen here. That train is certain to derail long before final approach.

Some client-agent relationships are well matched and everyone diligently works together. But be aware, other aspects can present unexpectedly by those … (18 comments)

professionalism in the real estate industry: The Face of Business or Alone and Crying, Crying, Crying, Crying... - 08/09/19 07:11 AM
The Face of Business or Alone and Crying, Crying, Crying, Crying...

Mike Cooper posted a video on Facebook regarding a woman who misspelled the word hamster - making it hampster. In a conversation with her boss, she adamantly insisted it was correct and once proved wrong, still refused to accept that, leading to a crying jag. After texting her mom for support at work, she turned on the speaker phone when her mom called, asking her to call the boss and tell her to stop being mean!

Which reminds me of a recent experience...

I stopped in to get approval for a cookie coupon design (for a mailer to clients) by the owner … (2 comments)

professionalism in the real estate industry: Dad blasted! - 08/30/18 06:38 AM
Dad blasted!

Been hit lately with a tirade by someone who simply had a differing opinion?

Sure wish people would think of how it feels to be on the receiving end before going off half-cocked. Besides, everyone online can see public post rants.

Do agents willingly put their clients, family and friends into a hot-head’s hands? Not this one.

Maintain a respectful stance in conversations, otherwise business may take a southern direction or permanent vacation with no return plans. Professionalism has its advantages, many, many more than the Other Side.

While its okay to have some FUN, it is not acceptable to demean or disparage!

professionalism in the real estate industry: Sunny D! - 08/05/18 08:24 AM
Sunny D!

Through cloudy skies and rainy days, the sunflower maintains its sunny disposition. A people pleaser at every turn, casting light in the darkest of circumstances, turning the lips upward.

Nature's Lesson: Exuding a positive attitude while guiding clients to one of the biggest lifetime decisions they will make is a crucial aspect. Be the one they turn to instead of away from.

professionalism in the real estate industry: SAVE $$$. Do-It-Yourself. Get Robbed! - 06/16/15 12:09 AM
SAVE $$$. Do-It-Yourself. Get Robbed!

Potential risks present when welcoming random strangers into an occupied home, some visitors have bad intentions when crossing the threshold. The dangers far outweigh the rewards, in many cases.

A FSBO held an open house event:
'Potential buyers' went upstairs and stole some valuables. He had no idea until it was discovered later that evening. It was too late to take action because the people who robbed him couldn't be identified.

Windows and doors can become conveniently unlocked, jewelry, guns, small electronic devices can come up missing when a crowd rushes in, or owners are distracted and people are left … (20 comments)
