social media practices: When Lenn Harley speaks, agents listen. - 06/07/18 07:51 AM
When Lenn Harley speaks, agents listen.

Lenn Harley remains one of my all-time favorite mentors here in the Rain. Though she is not actively posting, her advice and no-nonsense attitude through the years is still creating a ripple effect far and wide.

She made an amazing point years ago when she said that, "Most agents aren't your friends, they are your competition."

She is absolutely spot on as usual. Remember folks, some people will 'friend' or follow you on social media platforms but not necessarily for building relationships but for their gain when the opportunity presents.

In today’s world, quite often it is important to separate business from friendship … (18 comments)

social media practices: "LMAO I couldn't stop laughing at this picture of you!" - 09/03/16 01:19 AM
"LMAO I couldn't stop laughing at this picture of you!"
After reading an article on avoiding unsafe links on social media, I never thought the message would hit close to home until receiving a Direct Message from a fellow Twitterer. The message said "LMAO I couldn't stop laughing at this picture of you!" I'm thinking, "What picture?!"   Of course I was curious.  I found a message much later warning me..."If anyone has received a Direct Message from me I did not send it. Apparently I got hacked, hopefully they paid my bills for me while they were at it." At least he maintained a sense of humor.  It is a good thing … (12 comments)

Have a HEART people!
Social media brings friends and families together from great distances. It is also a great way to create business opportunities through online relationships.
Too often people take out their frustrations and anger on people who are not in the least deserving of that kind of treatment just because their opinions differ.
Many choose to hide behind a keyboard, name-call and throw out hateful and vitriolic responses because there is almost no accountability for such behavior.
It's a shame that people use the internet as a means to hurt others just because they can. I have a choice … (13 comments)

social media practices: I spoke to over 150 people today and over a 1,000 in a week. - 03/27/14 01:36 AM
I spoke to over 150 people today and over a 1,000 in a week.
I'm not bragging but would say that is a pretty good reach thanks to an online presence here on ActiveRain, Facebook, Linkedin and Twitter! Social media gets people involved and interacting and the clicks add up in a day's time. Viewing how many people have read an article or blog helps to gauge where time is better spent.
While there is no replacement for face-to-face meetings, how often can you contact 100s of people in a day or potentially thousands in a week's time? You could become a motivational speaker, do television commercials or set up … (38 comments)

social media practices: Learn to laugh at yourself. It does a business good! - 03/12/14 12:54 AM
Learn to laugh at yourself. It does a business good!

After attending a seminar on social media, I came away with a few things to share with all of you regarding best practices.
1. Be honest. There are always skeptics in the audience and if you puff or fluff on information, someone will call you on it, guaranteed.
2. Show integrity. This will shine through on all actions perceived by others and by taking an ethical approach, you will become respected.
3. Have a sense of humor. The ability to laugh at yourself or to engage in laughter with others is invaluable … (40 comments)
