Daffodils, tulips and Gerbera Daisies are making a show of it by adding a multitude of colors to the local landscapes! It certainly does lighten the mood to see the bright pops of yellows, reds, oranges and pinks.

the power of flowers in nerdin gardens: Nerdin Gardens: From My Head Tomatoes! - 09/14/23 08:30 AM
Nerdin Gardens: From My Head Tomatoes! From early spring to mid fall, we are constantly providing care for all plant material in Nerdin Gardens, especially ensuring that all processes are in place for optimum production. Much work goes into all aspects of back yard gardening. Prior knowledge kicks in when problems present but asking or seeking help is a natural reflex as well. Along with the fall season, a sense of relief, mixed with loss occurs as we both, once again, ready the garden for next spring's plantings. A matter of pulling plant material from all raised garden beds, turning off the automatic drip … (29 comments)

Nerdin Gardens: The Power of a Flower

A single rose opens the heart,
Bringing near, those far apart.

Lifting the spirits in love-speak,
Each bloom is elegantly unique.

Affection leads with each passing day
Bringing contentment and bliss this way.

While we may be unable to change the state of the world, we can ensure our own surroundings are a brighter, happier place to live.

the power of flowers in nerdin gardens: My Infatuation with Hollyhock Dolls - 05/30/23 12:09 PM
My Infatuation with Hollyhock Dolls

At that moment when first seeing the Hollyhock plant with it's thick stalk and regal tower of gorgeous blooms, I was smitten! Since then, I have searched high and low for all varieties and colors, often harvesting them on the roadsides and at our favorite golf course, where they grow abundantly.

Hollyhocks have become part of Nerdin Gardens, returning, year after year, dotting the landscape with their colorful presence. Here, they are all nurtured with TLC, along with the rest of the many flowers, bushes and trees.

A friend reminisced about a childhood memory of her grandmother making whimsical … (33 comments)

the power of flowers in nerdin gardens: Make a Wish Flowers for Mom - 05/14/23 07:32 AM
Make a Wish Flowers for Mom

Dandelions are looked upon as weeds, holding little to no worth for most adults. They do increase immensely in value when freshly picked from the yard and hand delivered between the tiny fingers of a small child.

For a mom, that little gesture can make it the most beautiful gift in the entire world due to the clear intention and sincere affection. Like a dandelion's wispery seeds as they quickly take flight, those moments are fleeting.

Make a wish and grab as many as you can before they're out of reach.

Happy Mother's Day!

the power of flowers in nerdin gardens: Making Someone's Day In a Small Way! - 11/19/22 08:45 AM
Making Someone's Day In a Small Way!

Upon opening a text,  this photo along with a message from my husband appeared..."This rose reminds me of how beautiful you are." How thoughtful he was to stop for a moment and relay that sentiment.

Did he have to?
No.

Was he prompted?
No.

Moments like this are so appreciated. Small gestures become monumental especially when totally unexpected. When is the last time you made someone's day, even in a small way? Happy Saturday all!

Nerdin Gardens: Mum's The Word

As fall slowly brings some plants closer to the dormant stage, we are glad for those that continue to thrive in the cooler, evening temperatures. Nerdin Gardens has produced a bevy of delicious fruits and vegetables.

For that we are most grateful and thankful!

While taking a stroll, I encountered some mum's just begging for attention. It didn't take much to inspire a quick poem when taking in their natural, sun-shiney blooms! Here are the words that came to mind. Enjoy!

Dear Mum,
Soft petals sweetly sun kissed,
Igniting a beauty entirely of whist.
Bright yellow, sunshiney yoo-hues,
Draw me in with rapt ahh’s … (22 comments)

the power of flowers in nerdin gardens: Nerdin Gardens: A Hidden Cache - 06/05/22 08:56 AM
Nerdin Gardens: A Hidden Cache

A Hibiscus bloom blew off the plant, as the wind gusted, twirling all around, making itself known to all. Bending down to pick up the pink flower, I spied a red-caped visitor that had crawled inside the stem cup.

Upon closer inspection, it was obvious the ladybug had discovered a colony of aphids that were depleting the host plant of nutrients. She was quite busy you see, paying no mind to me, only the task at hand.

Taking advantage of getting her fill was of utmost importance before the ants showed up again, making their rounds to herd or … (10 comments)

Nerdin Gardens: A Symphony of Happiness

"Earth laughs in flowers"~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

Spring is evident as I see these fluffy buds bursting out all over this fruitless plum tree. They spring to life, bringing subtle beauty and color to every passerby. And if Ralph Waldo Emerson is correct, this tree is a symphony of happiness, spreading good cheer to those who take notice!

Happy Saturday to you all.

Miss Prissy the Pig Stops to Smell the Spring Flowers

As life becomes harried with multiple business dealings and other obligations, it's important to stop and enjoy things that can bring joy, like:
A vacation Going on a hike Having lunch outside Reading a good book Taking a stroll in the park Inviting some friends over for dinner Spending much needed time with family or friends
Whatever it may be, taking advantage of what southern Utah has to offer this Spring will send the senses soaring through sight, smell, feel, hearing and taste. Miss Prissy the pig knows how to elevate her spirits!

the power of flowers in nerdin gardens: My Tulips say "It's Spring!" - 03/20/22 09:02 AM
My Tulips say "It's Spring!"

What do yours say?

From my two lips, I will also say, "It's the First Day of SPRING!"

My appreciation for flowers is deep rooted and long lasting. When spring arrives, spirits become elevated along with a sense of renewal that grows every season. Nature delivers on time. Every time. Proof of pure follow through with optimum performance.

Looking ahead. No regrets from my tulips or two lips.

Happy Sunday from Nerdin Gardens!

the power of flowers in nerdin gardens: Nerdin Gardens: The Artichoke plant adds ornamental beauty to any landscape. - 02/19/22 08:42 AM
Nerdin Gardens: The Artichoke plant adds ornamental beauty to any landscape.

My husband, a master gardener, often adds pops of color, interest and depth to any outside area. Knowing by instinct, the conditions and care that plant material needs to thrive, is pertinent to his continued success.

Artichokes grow best in sunny areas, can tolerate some shade, but the flower buds will be stunted. Fertile soil and good drainage guarantees adequate growth. The life span of the artichoke is 3 to 5 years.

They need plenty of room to stretch out in garden spaces but require little attention, other than watching for aphids.  They … (25 comments)

Nerdin Gardens: Nature's High Desert Flowers

It's almost December and the front and back yard are still boasting pops of awe-inspiring color from the slightest to brightest of tones. Am excited to take a perimeter walk daily to capture their beauty.

Like nature, I am working extremely hard to finish up the year strong. Am blessed to work in an industry that continues to gives back, especially for those with a strong work ethic, follow up and follow through.

Nerdin Gardens: Color My World Vivid Red and Bright Yellow

Perusing the many flowers dotting our landscape, the Ketchup and Mustard Rose  lives up to its fun name with red petals and a deep yellow on the reverse side. Small in stature but big and bold in appearance.

This plant produces small multiples, flourished, elegant blooms of high-centered, ruby-red flowers. Consistent blooming from late spring into fall, the festive petals smell like crisp apples and tea fragrance.

The color combination tends to make me a little hungry and a hankering for a fresh off-the-grill hot dog with some ketchup & mustard, a little onion, … (16 comments)
