work ethics: Adequate training vs On-the-Job Training - 09/13/18 07:29 AM
Adequate training vs On-the-Job Training

A question was asked in the ActiveRain Q&A regarding finishing real estate school... Did you feel that you had adequate training?

To which I replied...
The opportunity to sit in real estate classes actually gave me a better education than most new recruits who obtain theirs online, in my opinion. If you feel more training is necessary, take classes, go to seminars, it's up to you. You will be successful if you possess self-motivation and tenacity to go after business!

Most subjects were skimmed over due to the amount of information relayed. After testing out, on the job training became the next step, plus aligning with … (4 comments)

work ethics: Success or failure is not an action. It is a HABIT! - 10/03/17 02:53 PM
Success or failure is not an action. It is a HABIT!

By definition, a habit is a regular tendency or practice, one that is especially hard to give up. People can habitually fail or succeed, many times in life. This may depend on patterns, routines, desire, motivators and work ethics.

 Good Habit
From the time I was old enough to join the work force, I never made excuses or called in sick even if I detested my job. Instead, I looked for new opportunities to be the best! Waking six days a week with clients in mind, motivates me to get up, dress up and show up to get the job done. Though Sunday is typically not a work day in … (12 comments)

work ethics: Don't get upset with the results... - 07/06/17 08:07 PM
Don't get upset with the results...

Hard work still pays off. Some advertisers will tell you otherwise. Enticing vendors often promote instant results or financial freedom with just a click of the mouse. Refuse to buy into the fast track of success.

Beware of ads that make false promises, ensuring superior outcomes without knowing if the clicker:
is self-motivated has good work ethics possesses industry passion
These ads lend a premise to lead you on the path to riches, adoration and fame. They may offer a one-time only business opportunity or guaranteed client closing base with a lead generation company.

In my experience, the Sphere of Influence is still the best database for business now and in the future. If … (6 comments)

Here's looking at you kid! ~ Nerdin Gardens

As summer winds down, giving way to fall, many plants are nearing the end of their growing cycles. Where vivid greens and vibrant blooms once stayed, tans, yellows and browns are now in garden fashion.

Cooler temperatures, along with shorter days determine the work day for many still foraging for daily food. Early risers net better results when meeting the day, rather than chasing time.

Continue making a show of it by getting up, dressing up and making an appearance. The desire to achieve goals dwells in every living being but the instinct to survive is a fight to … (14 comments)

work ethics: Make a show of it and work and work…! - 04/26/15 12:20 AM
Make a show of it and work and work…!

Many new agents become frustrated when results aren't quickly forthcoming because if it isn't instantaneous, it lacks desirability and worthiness. Unfortunately, society has taken a 'want it all now' approach with little effort invested.

Favorable results do not come fast and furious in our industry but rather slow and steady with a combination of smarts and hard work. Creating successful work habits and putting forth a sincere effort to gain significant outcomes is key.

Setting processes and procedures to work at the forefront will create an effective, long standing business model. Consider meeting with other successful agents to find out what they have in place. … (14 comments)

work ethics: FYI: There are only 4...3 Fridays left 'till Christmas! - 12/04/14 10:21 PM
FYI: There are only 4...3 Fridays left 'till Christmas!

The Holiday Season is filled with Christmas activities, parties and dinner events. Eating healthy can be difficult due to all the rich foods that are served, especially the sweet variety. Just remember, moderation in all things and that will be your guide through the buffet lines to the dessert table. If you have any doubts, eat the desserts first! (Desserts is stressed spelled backwards for those who may be wondering...!)
Dressing up and getting out and about, meeting new people and spreading the season's cheer can brighten anyone's spirits. I recommend it highly.

work ethics: Today is. - 09/22/14 12:31 AM
Today is.

And will be. Every second, minute and hour spent, that is guaranteed because time waits for no one.
Up before light to begin a new work week with people to call, to follow up because I have rainbows in my clouds on this fine Monday morning.
How about you?

work ethics: Awe-mazing moments of inspiration! - 09/01/14 10:41 AM
Awe-mazing moments of inspiration!
Though small in stature, the Hummingbird's presence is quite captivating. Flitting here to there collecting pollen among the Red Salvia, the focus evident, never wavering from her dutiful mission.
Fall is near and many plants that are now in full bloom will go dormant with the approach of cooler seasons. Food will be less plentiful, the effort will be greater to forage.
Take on the Hummingbird's work ethic and you too can make a big impression. You never know, you could even be awe-mazing. Happy sales all!

work ethics: This is it! YOU make the choice of how it goes. - 08/26/14 11:19 AM
This is it! YOU make the choice of how it goes.
I love the real estate industry and appreciate the work that goes into helping clients achieve their dreams. During a conversation with an agent who has been in business for just over a year, he told me it has been a difficult series of ups and downs, that it was much harder than he thought prior to making the commitment.
Getting a real estate license is not necessarily the key to quick money, lavish vacations and endless business opportunities. Agents who have been in this industry for a while realize that it takes time, a good amount … (34 comments)

work ethics: Are your work ethics admirable or just getting you by? - 06/26/14 10:07 PM
Are your work ethics admirable or just getting you by?

Office distractions can get the best of anyone who lacks discipline, focus or a clear direction. My advice, especially during summer months or slow times, is to make a list of things that absolutely must get done on a daily basis. Most important items at the top, less important as the list continues downward.

Some things that may also help:
Noises: Close the door if possible to block out unecessary sounds of conversations, people walking down the hallway coming into the building or heading out.

Unexpected Visitors: Acknowledge them and politely let people know you are on a time schedule and cannot … (13 comments)

work ethics: Planning an extended vacation or working through it? - 05/27/14 11:21 PM
Planning an extended vacation or working through it?

Now that summer is almost here, the weather begs one to be outside enjoying the best of what the day offers, thoughts often shift from business to pleasure. I am guilty of desiring to be sitting on the beach with both feet firmly planted in the sand, a refreshing drink in hand. Come what may, hither and yon from dusk 'till dawn.
- BUT -
I am more like the Busy Bee. Clients depend on me to continue business dealings to achieve their goals. The least I can do is follow up and … (7 comments)

Call someone who cares to answer the phone!

A potential buyer called on a listing next door to the one I have. She said it had been 2 days of calls to the agent, with no response. I told her that I would try to contact the agent and get a showing scheduled.
I quickly phoned her back after speaking with said agent and set up an appointment to view the home. During our various conversations and text messages, they wanted to see other homes in the area to see where their money would be well spent.
Had the listing … (21 comments)

work ethics: This may burst your balloons! - 06/25/13 11:27 PM
This may burst your balloons!
Before you hold an Open House event or hang your For Sale sign at the seller's home in an active HOA, read the CCRs that drive the community, otherwise they may get penalized due to your efforts. Not exactly the best way to win your clients over when representing their listing!

Some developments strictly forbid any type of:
Signage Balloons or Sales Banners
The HOA will take necessary steps to be sure the owner gets the message loud and clear through financial means in the form of fines. While you are creating traffic, you are also putting your clients … (65 comments)

work ethics: Believing in yourself is the greatest gift you can give. - 06/06/13 12:40 AM
Believing in yourself is the greatest gift you can give.

How many times have you been told that you 'can't do this' or you 'can't do that' by people who wish to limit you? The problem lies not with the people outwardly expressing themselves, it is with the person who buys into their ideals.

Prior to real estate, I worked numerous jobs, trying to find a career that would suit my talents, compliment the 'people pleaser' that thrived within. One of the last jobs was with a home builder as an Assistant Director of Marketing & Advertising. I loved everything about the position and that … (18 comments)

work ethics: Wait your turn! Durn it! - 06/01/13 12:59 AM
Wait your turn! Durn it!

While showing homes yesterday, another agent and his clients walked right in the door, interrupting a scheduled appointment. No apologies. No introductions. He acted like we were all on tour together and then proceeded to show the house to his clients!

The house is on electronic keybox and instead of handing over the key to him, I put the key back in the keybox and requested that he enter his code and get the key back out. He did so and we left to drive to the next property on the list.

We get there and here they … (29 comments)

work ethics: Being a some time, other time, part time agent just isn't for me. - 05/30/13 11:04 PM
Being a some time, other time, part time agent just isn't for me.

My broker and I were talking about work ethics and staying the course. He began to describe how some agents will close a file and take a month or two off before returning to real estate. Some only work one transaction at a time and hey, it's their business and ok if it works for them.
I personally would become complacent from the detachment, time and again. I like to keep momentum through my days. It is what drives me to my office and pushes me to … (8 comments)
