For example, sales in May 2010 were better than May 2009 both in terms of total sales and in terms of total sales volume, the 2nd Quarter of 2010 was better than the 2nd Quarter of 2009... and so on. That changed in July 2010; and the sales numbers were NOT as good as July 2009 - or for any July going all the way back to 2005. As of today, the inventory of homes for sale in the Pinehurst-Southern Pines MLS has dropped to 1,048. That means that we are inching our way back to normal levels. Normal would be 900 - 950 units for sale at this time of year; and under normal conditions supply and demand would be roughly equal. A high inventory basically means that supply exceeds demand. Mark Elliott of Elliott's on Linden has opened a quintessential British Pub in Southern Pines at the intersection of Morganton & Broad. Or at least it's about to open. We were lucky enough to attend the "soft opening" last night. The only thing about The Sly Fox that's not 100% authentic is that the FOOD IS AWESOME. The inventory of single family homes in the Pinehurst area MLS is dropping weekly and is about to go below the 1,000 mark for the first time in 2 years. The Pinehurst MLS includes Southern Pines, Whispering Pines, Aberdeen and all of Moore County, NC. The decline represents improved home sales since Sept; and some sellers simply withdraw their listings from the market as the holidays approach. The inventory of single family homes in Moore County NC topped the 1,000 mark in January 2009 and the number continued to rise throughout the Spring and early Summer, reaching a peak of about 1,170 in mid-June. Since then, the inventory of homes for sale in the county has declined slowly but steadily. As of September 9, 2009, there are 1,098 single family homes for sale in Moore County. Southern Pines Country Club in Southern Pines NC is a Donald Ross Course that is a great place to play golf. It's open to the public so anyone can have the experience of playing a Ross course that has been there for over 100 years. Longleaf Country Club Longleaf is located between Pinehurst and Southern Pines on the site of former horse racing track, and the course actually weaves its way through remnants of the original fence around the track. Yesterday, I decided to go out and get in a round of golf at nearby Hyland Hills. Hyland Hills is an 18 hole course in Southern Pines, NC - one of over 40 courses within about 10 minutes of Pinehurst. There are golf front homes and condos right on the course. I showed up at about 4 thinking I would play 9 holes to get back in time to catch live coverage of the US Open.
