California Motorcycle Ride - Little Dragon - Hwy 49 (Coulterville, CA)
Last month, Bob and I rode the Little Dragon, California's version of Tennesee's and North Carolina's famous Tail of the Dragon. The Tail of the Dragon is a popular destination for motorcycle riders and sports car enthusiasts worldwide and it consists of an 11-mile stretch of highway with a total of 318 turns. The Little Dragon is actually 5 miles longer than the Tail of the Dragon, but with only approximately 45 turns. Here is a photo of the Little Dragon that I took from the southernmost vantage point, Fremont's Fort:

Coulterville, CA - Magnolia Saloon & Grill Restaurant at Hotel Jeffery
The Magnolia Saloon & Grill at Hotel Jeffery is a popular lunch stop destination for motorcycle riders who come to ride the Little Dragon, a 15-mile stretch of Hwy 49 between Coulterville, CA and Bear Valley, CA with fun twisties and wonderful views. Bob and I went on a group motorcycle ride from El Dorado Hills, CA down Highway 49 to the Little Dragon last weekend and it was a great day trip to start the Spring riding season!
Established in 1851, the Magnolia Saloon is California's oldest operating saloon … (4 comments)

Sportsman's Hall in Pollock Pines, California is open Monday to Thursday from 8am to 8pm, Friday and Saturday from 8am to 9pm and Sunday from 7am to 9pm. It is a pretty cool and convenient place to stop for a quick meal if you're traveling on Highway 50, midway between Sacramento and South Lake Tahoe. Sportsman's Hall is known as California Landmark 704 and was "California's only home station where riders changed on the Pony Express Trail."

Uncle Toms Cabin - Wentworth Springs Rd, El Dorado National Forest, CA 95634
Uncle Toms Cabin (est. 1864) is a great place to stop en route to the Rubicon Trail for off-road enthusiasts or simply a cool destination if you're looking for a rustic retreat. However, if you're not coming in a Jeep, 4WD truck, SUV or even a hypermotard, just know in advance that you'll have to go about 1/4 mile on a dirt road off Wentworth Springs Road to get to Uncle Toms Cabin! Here are some photos of our group of motorcycles going down that road...and no, most … (6 comments)

Capay, CA 95607 - Road Trip Bar & Grill
Capay Valley's Road Trip Bar & Grill was our dining destination for today's group motorcycle ride...and after eating there, I know why they were voted Best Restaurant in Yolo County last year!

Road Trip Bar & Grill has a parking lot in the back, right behind their outdoor patio with lots of seating. FYI, the patio is not dog-friendly, as only service dogs are allowed.

Like everyone else, we decided to eat in their air-conditioned dining room because it was a typical midday in July...too hot to eat outside. Better … (12 comments)

North San Juan, CA 95960 - Brass Rail Tavern & Forty Niner Diner
We stopped at the Brass Rail Tavern & Forty Niner Diner on Hwy 49 in North San Juan, CA for a late lunch during a group motorcycle ride from Rocklin, CA to Bullards Bar Reservoir in Dobbins, CA. The Brass Rail Tavern is what I would call your typical biker bar, with some really good grub next door at the Forty Niner Diner.
Bob had one of their famous Philly Cheesesteak sandwiches and I had the best Patty Melt I've ever had...oh boy, was it delicious! The grilled onions … (10 comments)

El Dorado Hills, CA 95762 - The Purple Place Bar & Grill
Famous for their Bloody Marys, the Purple Place Bar & Grill in El Dorado Hills, CA is also a popular meeting spot for group motorcycle rides. Since they are open for breakfast, many bikers meet at "The Purp" before heading out to ride. For us, the Purple Place was the final destination after a group motorcycle ride on Hwy 49. Bob enjoyed his refreshing Cobb Salad and I savored my BBQ Pulled Pork Sandwich...yummy!
The Purple Place Bar & Grill is open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner and they … (10 comments)

Georgetown, CA 95634 - Camp Virner Restaurant & Lounge
Camp Virner Restaurant & Lounge is a family owned and operated little gem of a restaurant in the Georgetown Divide, just 6 miles up Wentworth Springs Road from Main Street at Hwy 193 in Georgetown. They are open for dinner only, Wednesday to Sunday from 5pm to 9pm, and serve American, German and Italian food. BTW, I've heard that if you are coming for their prime rib (which they only serve on Fridays and Saturdays), be sure to get there early before they run out!
