botetourt county: More Halloween Pics - 11/07/09 01:43 AM
Here are a few more pictures from our Halloween event. Thanks again to Linda, Jeff, Sal, Nate, Maddi, Deena, Phillip, Brian, Cody, Carole, Devin, Brandon and everyone who helped pull it off. And no, we are not satanic! We are Christians who know the real history of All Hallows Eve, look it up if you don't know: It has a religious background! We love Halloween and look forward to next year when we will have a few changes to keep everyone scared!

botetourt county: Virginia Mountain Vineyards - 11/10/08 03:39 AM
We have been to Virginia Mountain Vineyards twice now and both times came away impressed with thier wines and especially with their There is an interesting view of the Peaks of Otter from the backside. Some people don't even recognize it! The owner is the winemaker, bottler, taster, chief cook and bottle washer. They grow 100% of their own grapes and sell a lot to other wineries in the region including the largest in Virginia. Their Traminette is their first major award winner and though we tend away from sweet and semi-sweet wines, it is almost irresistable. They feature 3 wonderful … (0 comments)

botetourt county: Blue Ridge Vineyard - 11/10/08 03:19 AM
Our next stop was out on the other side of the James river (my favorite fishing) at Blue Ridge Vineyard. Their wines were good (remember my non-critiquing rule) and we enjoyed a couple of their dry reds especially. But first and foremost their outdoor party room and indoor tatsting room are fantastic. The vinyard sits on a georgous 300 acre spread with phenomenal views that will inspire you. The land is smoothly rolling hillsides approaching a steep and rugged mountainside. An old barn was converted to perform double duties. The tasting room is rustic at its' finest, enclosed by historically old … (0 comments)

botetourt county: Fincastle Vineyard and Winery - 11/10/08 03:04 AM
Our first stop was meant to be the farthest from Roanoke, but because of Dick Cheney's passing through the area, rt 220 was blocked at rt 81 for some time so we detoured to Fincastle Vineyard & Winery. They are easy to get to, a short distance off route 11 closer to Trouteville than Fincastle. This is a typical Virginia family operated winery. The very quaint tasting room was added onto their farm house to accommodate their growing wine business. The tasting room has stone exterior and you enter under a wonderful arbor entryway after passing a coy pond. Inside there … (0 comments)

botetourt county: Botetourt County Wine Trail - 11/10/08 02:50 AM
I recently had an opportunity to travel the Botetourt County Wine Trail. It is a bit short, consisting of just 3 vineyards, but the experiences presented by each are quality and worthwhile. Each is unique and offers a fair variety of wines, some award winners among them. I will refrain from critiquing the wines as I have a love of wine but I am no expert in the general public's palate preferences. The three vineyards in Botetourt as as follows, in no particular order: Fincastle Vineyard & Winery, Virginia Mountain Vineyards and Blue Ridge Vineyard.

botetourt county: Botetourt Wineries - 07/30/08 04:34 AM
I hope to organize a tour of Botetourt County wineries for local residents. I know of Fincastle Winery and 2 others, does anyone know exactly how many wineries are located in Botetourt County? I could use a little help in organizing the tour. I would like to provide a chauffured limo or bus for a very small fee to each person or couple. Also does anyone know of any legal liabilities I may face, a disclaimed or waiver I may need to get signed? Any help is greatly appreciated!
