Proposition 8 was a California ballot proposition that was passed in the November 2008 general election which restricted "marriage" to couples of the opposite sex, effectively banning same-sex couples' right to marry.
The California Constitution was changed to eliminate equal rights among all Californians.
The validity of Prop 8 was challenged in the Supreme Court but the Court upheld Proposition 8 in a May 2009 ruling.

Situated at the corner of Santa Monica Blvd. opposite the notorious Numbers Restaurant, Hancock Lofts is one of West Hollywood's newer mixed-use condo developments that is well under construction.
The project involves 31 luxury 1 and 2 bedroom lofts and 2-story townhomes, with floor plans ranging from 1,000 to 1,800 sq.ft. Also included will be seven rental units, and almost 11,000 sq. ft. of retail space.
Condos will feature either sealed concrete or wood floors and have a combination  of Miele and Jenn-Air appliances and include Kohler bath accessories. Prices are expected to start around $900,000 a unit.

Over the last month I've noticed that Bank-owned properties (REO's) have been significantly marked down. It appears that the banks have finally acknowledged they need to take drastic action to clear these properties from their books.
No-one can honestly say when the market will reach its lowest point, but any serious buyer with good credit and a reasonable downpayment should take a good look at current prices.
2-Bedroom condos in Los Angeles that had previously sold for $490,000 are available as REO's in the early to mid $300,000's .... prices last seen in 2003 and 2004.

I was pleasantly surprised to review the December 2008 statistics for the West Hollywood Condo Market.
Specifically, I compared December 2008 to 2007 and 2006. Obviously, a single month does not signal a definitive trend, but it was good to see the market holding steady.

A part-owner of a Mexican restaurant in the Fairfax area of Los Angeles (on the West Hollywood border) - El Coyote - confirmed that she donated money to the "Yes on 8 Campaign" in the restaurant's name. El Coyote has 89 employees, many of whom are gay.
El Coyote has a loyal gay clientele and has been a succesful family-owned restuarant since 1931.
Apparently - Marjorie Christoffersen - a part-owner of the restaurant, made the donation when requested to do so by the Mormon Church. Christoffersen said she simply did what her church told her, "El Coyote is as diverse as its clientele … (29 comments)
