How many times do people need to be reminded about dryer vents? Never too many is the answer. There are even clever commercials now from Farmer's Insurance Group showing a 17 foot tall ball of lint and the teacher torches the ball with a flame thrower to remind viewers how flammable the dryer lint can be.
One reason there are so many of these accordion type dryer vents still being used today is that the major appliance installation companies insist on showing up to install your new dryer with a new package of flexible dryer vent. It's so much easier to just … (5 comments)

10 years and still growing. Hard to believe it's nearly ten years in business as a full time home inspector. But I've enjoyed every minute and can't wait for what's to come.
2009- At this time in 2009 I was working for another company in the building materials industry and had completed less than 20 inspections, total in 2 1/2 years. This might be our big break. That's the conversation my wife and I were having after an odd phone call in the fall of 2000. We were friends with a family and their children attending the same school as our kids and one of their daughters also went to the same ballet classes as our oldest daughter. Old Man Winter is here and he's here with a vengeance. It's Furnace Time! Winter was pretty rough in Bourbonnais, Illinois last year and it's even worse this year. There are a few things that are worse than a furnace acting up in the middle of the winter, but for the life of me I can't think of any right now. Blessed to Have Him I have been inspecting homes for new home buyers for about 8 years full time. I was doing inspections part time for a few years before that. I was always a one man shop until July of 2018. I have averaged 2 inspections a day Monday through Friday for the past 2 years. Over 500 inspections each year is enough to wear anyone out. I am always looking for an edge in my business, and if that edge can even make me look a little better than usual, all the better. My original profile picture was one that featured an American flag flying over the bridge that crossed the Galena River. My favorite Christmas memory is the first Christmas after my heart attack. What were you doing 5 years ago on December 10? Exactly 5 years ago? Remember? I do. At 1:30 am I was jarred awake by a crushing pain in my chest, sweating like a pig, and realized I was having a heart attack. But I also see some beautiful homes and I always marvel at the attention to detail a carpenter must have to build something so beautiful without the benefit of power tools or machinery. This was a difficult decision since there are so many good pictues I take. I have a file just for them called Home Inspection Beauty shots.This one is one of my favorites.
