3 on 3 Summer Hoops This is an exciting, fast-paced basketball program for boys and girls entering 4th through 10th grade this fall. You select your team, assign a team parent, register, and play. The league will be divided by gender and by grade. Minimum number of 5 teams is required to form a division. If we do not reach the minimum, we will combine grades and/or gender i.e. 5th & 6th grade in the same division, boys and girls in the same division. Registration for the 2013 season begins January 27th. Registration is available online from January 27th thru March 23rd; register here. There will be two dates for in person registration; Saturday, February 16th, 9am-1pm and Thursday, February 28th 6-9pm in the commons area at the High School. With 1,300 players, Avon Lake Youth Baseball is the largest recreational group in Avon Lake and directly involves over 4,000 community members.

The first session is planned for 7:30 p.m. March 5 at Dwyer Senior Center, 300 Bryson Lane, Bay Village. The forum speakers will be Cuyahoga County Councilman Dave Greenspan and Ed Jerse, Cuyahoga County’s director of regional coordination. The speakers will discuss how the county can provide some services more effectively than individual city governments, how competition between cities may weaken cities, whether the reduction in state funding makes it especially important to think regionally, and what functions are best kept at the local level. Avon Lake’s Red Hat Group can choose between two events for their Feb. 21 get-together. One group will depart for Horseshoe Casino in Cleveland by bus at 9 a.m. from All-Pro Freight Stadium in Avon. Tickets are available for the annual Breakfast with the Easter Bunny sponsored by the city of Avon Lake and American Legion Post 211. The event takes place March 23 at Post 211, 31972 Walker Road. There are two seatings — at 9 and 11 a.m. Cost is $5 per adult and $1 per child. Gifts will be given to children up to age 12. Registration is open through March 13.
