Thought I share some local tips I have learned as my fireplace was inspected last week. Have your chimney inspected by a qualified professional every year and cleaned if needed. Use a metal screen or door in front of fireplaces and wood burning stoves to keep sparks and ashes from contacting the floor or furniture. Keep fires small. Ash buildup in the chimney can ignite with excessive heat caused by larger fires. Open a window 1"-2" when burning a fireplace. Following the local media reports and hearing 4 discussion groups in the area in the last 2 weeks it is clear that the home market in the area is strong. In a previous post I had indicated that the last 3 months have shown a decrease in inventory ( a sign that homes are selling well in the area) and second, values had stabilized (another good sign for the local economy and an indication that there is a demand for homes in the area.
