Kahwa Coffee in downtown St Petersburg Florida continues to be a favorite neighborhood place - so popular, in fact, that they've opened a second place 7 blocks away, also in downtown St Pete. Just recently Kahwa Espresso Bar at 475 2nd Street North in downtown St Pete celebrated their second anniversary - and to thank their customers, gave away coffees for the whole day: coffees, lattes, espressos, etc. I was there that morning, sitting at the counter, and enjoyed watching the reactions of the surprised customers. This is a typical morning at Kahwa. From just this small section of Kahwa you can see that it's a morning ritual for young and old, for casual and professional. Here you can see Kahwa customers enjoying their morning beverage while reading the paper, using their computer, or taking something to go. What you don't see here is all the conversation going on at tables inside and out. Business meetings, friends chatting before heading off to work, neighbors sharing thoughts. Last week I blogged about Kahwa coffee shop in downtown St Petersburg. One of the questions was: was the lovely design a heart or a leaf. Answer: a heart. The second design was a leaf. This morning I shared coffee with both Raphael and his wife, Sarah, co-owners of Kahwa coffee - both this local coffee shop and a wholesale coffee roasting business here in St Pete. Kahwa is the new favorite neighborhood coffee shop, at the border of downtown St Petersburg and the Old Northeast neighborhood, and within walking distance of the Renaissance Vinoy Resort. Today was still hot in St Pete, so people were sitting inside with their coffee, reading newspapers, checking their e-mail on the free wireless, or chatting with regulars and newcomers alike. The shop was opened in March of this year by Catherine and Jean Thibault and Sarah and Raphael Perrier, so it has a distinct French flavor.
