saint petersburg: Lakefront Retreat - 11/18/06 08:36 AM
Just 15 minutes from downtown Saint Petersburg, Florida is this peaceful lakefront retreat (note - it's a Florida lake, but would be a New England pond). You can enjoy the view or even take your canoe out on the water. Vaulted ceilings are a welcome feature in an "older" home, as is the large family room with inviting fireplace. This four bedroom home with pool and spa is available for $700,000. More details, including a flyer, can be downloaded. You can also see a Visual Tour.
You can also be across the bridge and in Tampa in 15 minutes. 15-20 minutes from … (0 comments)

saint petersburg: Waterfront Parks in Downtown St Petersburg, Florida - 08/03/06 01:25 AM
One of the attributes that makes downtown Saint Petersburg, Florida, such an attractive downtown is the string of parks that run along the water, preserving views and access for everyone. The highrise condos that are growing along Beach Drive, have great water view for the condo owners, but are set behind the park, so that they don't wall off the water from everyone else. There is a string of parks, running from the Albert Whitted Airport, past the Renaissance Vinoy Hotel, along Northshore Drive, and nearly to Snell Isle. Some parks are directly on the water, and others have a road … (0 comments)

saint petersburg: Clearwater, Florida Makes Neighborly Offer - 08/03/06 01:13 AM
The city of Clearwater, Florida, has offered the city of Saint Petersburg, Florida, $600,000 to use in expanding the Albert Whitted Airport in downtown St Pete, Florida. According to the St Petersburg Times, this is subject to approval by the FAA.  One of the gems of downtown St Petersburg is this airport, which is small and within walking distance of downtown. There are no commercial airlines flying here - they generally fly into Tampa International Airport.
A new terminal building is underway, thanks to the generosity of John and Rosemary Galbraith. The new funding, if approved, will pay for a new ramp … (0 comments)

saint petersburg: Architectural Integrity - 08/01/06 04:20 PM
Today most buyers/owners are looking for architectural integrity, not a mish-mash of styles all in one house.  We have many bungalow style homes in both the Old Northeast and Kenwood neighborhoods of Saint Petersburg.  My son and daughter-in-law lovingly restored a 1910 bungalow, The House That Jack Built. One of the characteristics of the bungalow style is an open front porch. Over the years, their porch had been enclosed by screens and jalousie windows (a series of glass louvers, about 6" high, that open out with a crank). They enjoyed this, as it provided privacy from the street, and was a … (0 comments)

saint petersburg: The Appeal of Trolleys - 07/27/06 11:50 AM
A trolley is so much more appealing than a bus. Think of San Francisco and of New Orleans. Trolleys are a great way to see the city and to do some sightseeing. Some are open air, some are air conditioned; some are wood, some are not. Maybe it's the design that catches you - whatever the variation, you know it's a trolley. Maybe it's reminiscent of "the good old times". Maybe it's a feeling of leisure, rather than utility. Maybe you feel more connected with the city than in a bus.  Whatever the reason, they're certainly popular.
In St. Petersburg, Florida, it's called The Looper. … (2 comments)

saint petersburg: A Fresh Approach to Advertising - 07/25/06 09:56 AM
We so often see new development signs stating starting from the low $400s or other lows  -  to really find that only the smallest house on the worst lot with no upgrades could be bought under $450,000.  Here's a developer with a refreshing view - condos from $300K to 6 Kazillion!  It certainly stopped me on the street when I first passed it, and I went around the block to read it closer.  Even Jay Leno took notice of it, and showed a photo of the sign on his show. The building is The Edge, to be built in downtown St. Petersburg, … (1 comments)

saint petersburg: Architecture can make Communities - 07/25/06 07:55 AM
Neighborhood, for some people, means knowing your neighbors and chatting with them, picking up their newspapers when they're away, calling you if one of your children is somewhere doing something he shouldn't . A very popular neighborhood here in St. Petersburg, Florida, is the Old Northeast, with homes built primarily from 1910-1940. Yes, people like being close th the park and Tampa Bay, and being close to downtown St. Petersburg. Yes, they like the brick streets and the big shade trees, and the interesting architecture. Most of all, they like the feeling of community - of knowing their neighbors, of feeling … (1 comments)

saint petersburg: Boat slips becoming scarce in Pinellas County Florida - 07/22/06 03:31 AM
St Petersburg, Clearwater and other parts of Pinellas County, Florida, are constantly losing marinas (with both boat slips and high-and-dry storage) as costs increase exponentially for the owners - property taxes, insurance rates, etc. and they are offered huge amounts of money from developers. Some of them build condos with optional docking facilities - others just make dockominiums out of the marinas, and are selling slips for up to $200,000 - plus maintenance fees, of course.  Makes buying a waterfront home with dockage a more viable option.  Small (1600-1700 sq ft) older waterfront homes with good waterfront boating facilities can still be … (0 comments)

saint petersburg: Plaza on 5th Avenue - downtown Saint Petersburg, Florida - 07/21/06 09:35 AM
Construction on this Walker-Whitney Plaza condominium building in downtown St Petersburg Florida has already started and completion is expected in Spring 2007. Walker-Whitney last night held a party at the historic Veillard House for soon-to-be residents and a few realtors to meet with the developers, see display boards of various finishes and choices, and interact.  Prices range from $427,900 for a 2 bedroom 2.5 bath unit with 1,394 sq ft to $878,900 for a 2 bedroom 2.5 bath unit with 1,495 sq ft. In addition there are two penthouses. This is within walking distance of the waterfront, parks and the Renaissance Vinoy. … (0 comments)

saint petersburg: Annual Sunrise Sale - St Petersburg Florida - 07/20/06 12:37 AM
Downtown St Pete opened at 6:43 am this morning, sunrise, with 39 shops and galleries open with special sales. Several locations had small bands playing, and there were many places serving coffee, juice or cold water. For many years this annual Sunrise Sale event was limited to Beach Drive, and people were lined up on the street and around the corners in front of their favorite shops. But the Straw Goat is gone, and a few other old favorites, and the shops now range over several blocks, so the people are more dispersed. People can take a free trolley ride from one sale … (6 comments)

saint petersburg: Snell Isle Club holds event for real estate brokers - 07/19/06 11:21 AM
The Sunset Ballroom at the Renaissance Vinoy Hotel golf course was an appropriate location for a luxe opening event for realtors.  Arches are a prime design feature in this 1920s building, and Sun Vista Holdings are taking down walls and inserting arches in their newest condo conversion, the Snell Isle Club.  Brad Martin, Chief Operating Officer of Sun Vista, spoke at length with Sharon Simms and Amy Grashel of the Simms Team, RE/MAX Metro (actually Brad and his wife are long time clients of Sharon, having bought and sold properties through her over several years), about the project.  With the first … (2 comments)

Signature Place, an exciting high-rise luxury condominium project is now in the process of demolishing the office building on the site where Signature Place will be built. Ralph Johnson, a distinguished and award winning architect with Perkins + Will in Chicago, has designed this unique structure in the shape of a sail, with walls of glass, giving every condominium unit a view of Tampa Bay. Joel Cantor, founder of Cantor development, is setting new standards in this sophisticated building. The sixth floor Sky Garden features an 80 foot wide, 6 story waterwall. … (7 comments)

saint petersburg: Grand Bohemian Reconfiguring - 07/19/06 08:09 AM
The Grand Bohemian Hotell and Residences, a highrise hotel and luxury condominium project in downtown St Petersburg Florida is about to undergo some design changes. Richard Kessler has decided to include more hotel rooms and less condominiums, so construction will be delayed for up to one year. Original plans were to have the first 15 of 32 floors as 166 hotel rooms, with 82 condominiums above, including two penthouses - with separate entrance and facilities but full use of all hotel services and amenities. The Kessler Group is known for incorporating art and music into its projects.  Their Westin Grand Bohemian hotel in Orlando has … (2 comments)

saint petersburg: Parkshore Plaza completed - 07/18/06 01:30 PM
Parkshore Plaza, a new luxury high-rise on Beach Drive in downtown St. Petersburg, Florida, overlooking Tampa Bay, has just begun closings and three owners have already moved in. This Opus development has retail on two streets, topped by city homes.  Then the buildings drop back for the activities level, pool, spa and many common facilities, and back from the street is the tower, with all units having a water view. Immediately across the street is a park, which has art and music festivals, and beyond that is the Vinoy Basin, the Pier, and then open Tampa Bay, leading to the Gulf … (4 comments)
