This year I finally meet the qualifications to run for a 2-year position on the Sacramento Association of REALTORS® Board of Directors. I have been serving on various committees at SAR for the last 3 years, and have been honored by SAR for my contributions, and the Nominating Committee felt I might be a good fit to serve on the Board. So I am running...and so are eight others (a total of nine), for six open positions. So in this contested race, I will be campaigning over the next couple months until all the votes are counted in early August. While the intended … (5 comments)

Just as the "Young Professionals Council" did last year, this year we are also doing a vendor fair fundraiser for the SAR Scholarship Fund. In 2009, SAR awarded approximately $44,000 in scholarships to deserving Sacramento area students. Well...the application period for SAR's 2010 scholarships is NOW!! sacramento association of realtors: Nice way to begin 2010! - 01/05/10 04:52 PM

sacramento association of realtors: Young Professionals Council donates $1,004.50 to Sacramento Moral Values Program! - 07/23/09 07:56 AM
A couple weeks ago, I blogged about a fundraising event the Sacramento Association of Realtors Young Professionals Council did to benefit the Sacramento Moral Values Program (MVP). Last week, a few YPC members went to MVP to give them the $1,004.50 we raised, and while we were there we took a tour of their facilities! I know they will put the money to good use! … (1 comments)

Last week the Sacramento Association of Realtors "Young Professionals Council" did yet another fundraiser. We attended a Sacramento Rivercats game, and had a really fun tailgate party that was sponsored by Wells Fargo Home Mortgage! Between ticket sales, the sponsorship, and donations, we raised $1,004.50 for Sacramento's Moral Values Program (aka, MVP). Up next, we are planning our 2nd Annual Bowling Tournament to benefit the California Association of Realtors "Housing Affordability Fund"...coming in September!

sacramento association of realtors: Strategic Planning with the Sacramento Association of Realtors - 06/24/09 02:18 PM
If you follow me on Twitter, you will already know that this afternoon I returned from a 2-day strategic planning session with the Sacramento Association of Realtors. Every three years, SAR has an off-site meeting of the minds to outline the direction of the association for the next three years. With the guidance of a facilitator from the National Association of Realtors, we set several goals, and outlined possible strategies for achieving those goals. I was honored to be one of the people invited to attend.

I know I say this a lot, but Sacramento is extremely fortunate to have … (0 comments)

sacramento association of realtors: Fundraising for SAR's Scholarship Fund with the Young Professionals Council - 06/02/09 03:44 PM

Today, the Sacramento Association of Realtors "Young Professionals Council" put on a BBQ and Vendor Fair fundraising event to raise money for SAR's Scholarship Fund. We had 46 participating vendors, great food, ice cream, DJ music, and LOTS of donated raffle prizes. We weathered an unexpected summer rain, but a good time was had by all! While the final tallies are not in just yet, we estimate that we raised over $4,000 for the fund.
Right before our event today, SAR held a ceremony to present its annual scholarships to Sacramento-area graduating high school seniors. Today SAR gave over … (1 comments)

sacramento association of realtors: Go Green with the Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD)! - 05/18/09 12:45 PM
It's been a while since I wrote a long blog post, so I figured today while I spend some time as the "agent on duty" I would write a novel...or at least maybe the first chapter of a novel. Ok, make that the prologue to a novel. Whatever...So if any of you follow me on Twitter, you already know that this last Friday morning I was lucky enough to attend a presentation by Nancy Bui, one of the elected Directors for the Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD).  Each month, the Sacramento Association of Realtors hosts a "Public Issues Forum", and Ms. Bui was nice … (3 comments)

sacramento association of realtors: Lunch at the CA Democratic Party Convention with CAR... - 04/26/09 02:20 PM
If ya'll watch the news, I am sure you heard at some point this weekend that the California Democratic Party Convention was this weekend at the Sacramento Convention Center? Turns out the California Association of Realtors was one of the event sponsors, and had a table at the luncheon event yesterday (Saturday). I was offered a ticket to attend, and thought it would be a great opportunity to learn more about the latest in state and local politics. I regularly attend our local forum at the Sacramento Association of Realtors to receive updates, and thought this may provide some insights with … (1 comments)

sacramento association of realtors: My Snapshot in Sacramento Magazine's May issue... - 04/15/09 05:08 PM
I received two phone calls and a message on Twitter yesterday afternoon that there is a photo of me in the May 2009 issue of Sacramento Magazine. I had trouble tracking down a copy, but this morning at the Starbucks near my house I found one (with the kabob on the cover). It is on page 85 in the "Snapshots" section. It was taken at the Sacramento Association of Realtors Masters Club luncheon last month...in the photo with me is Meg Heede, a Realtor and fellow member of the Masters Club Steering Committee.

sacramento association of realtors: CARHAF Mortgage Protection Program - 03/31/09 02:48 PM
If ya'll have been reading this blog long enough, you might remember a Bowling Tournament that the Sacramento Association of Realtors "Young Professionals Council" did back in November to raise funds for CARHAF (California Assocation of Realtors Housing Affordability Fund)? If anyone wants to know about the types of programs our fundraising efforts assist, CAR has just announced the Mortgage Protection Program (MPP).Per an email from James Liptak, CAR President, "Through the CAR Housing Affordability Fund Mortgage Protection Program (CARHAFMPP), first-time home buyers who lose their jobs due to layoffs may be eligible to receive up to $1,500 per month for … (2 comments)

sacramento association of realtors: Hanging out with the Sacramento Association of Realtors "Young Professionals Council" - 01/23/09 10:25 AM
I attended a social function last night for the Sacramento Association of Realtors "Young Professionals Council." This year I was actually asked by SAR's president to serve as the Vice Chair of our YPC. We define "young" as members (Realtors) and affiliate members (Title Company reps, Loan Officers, etc.) in their 20's and 30's. Let me tell you - there are some outstanding, great, successful young Realtors and affiliates in Sacramento! I am lucky that they let me hang out with them! ;-)

sacramento association of realtors: Final Blog Post of 2008...looking forward to 2009! - 12/30/08 05:35 AM
This is likely my last blog post of 2008. I am sitting in terminal A15 at Sacramento International Airport, waiting for my flight...I had no idea that there is free WiFi in the airport! I am heading to Phoenix to ring in the new year with my best friend since the 7th grade. She is attending Medical School there, and I have not seen her in 2 years since she basically lives and breathes medical school. I am VERY excited.Over the last couple days, I have been doing a lot of reflection on 2008 - from both a personal perspective and … (7 comments)

sacramento association of realtors: Sacramento Association of Realtors 100 Year Anniversary Centennial Gala - 11/15/08 03:11 AM

Last night, the Sacramento Association of Realtors celebrated its 100th Anniversary with a formal dinner event - the Centennial Gala. The SAR Centennial Committee and staff worked hard to put on a great event. All year long at our main meetings, we have enjoyed photos and memorabilia from years past, and last night we watched a pretty neat slide show. Pretty cool to see photos from earlier eras of other Realtors doing the same types of things we are doing today. Perhaps at the 200 year anniversary event, future SAR members will see goofy photos of me and get energized about … (2 comments)

sacramento association of realtors: Bowling for the American Dream at Land Park Lanes! - 11/09/08 08:49 AM
Last night at Land Park Lanes, a few crazy Sacramento Association of Realtors members and affiliates did a bowling tournament fundraiser for the California Association of Realtors Housing Affordability Fund.I dusted off my bowling ball and shoes (hey -- I grew up in a bowling family alright!?!!), dressed up for our 70's theme, and had an absolute blast! The photo above is the planning committee...if you have a difficult time picking me out of the lineup, I am the one in the middle with the blonde frizzy wig.
My mom and my husband attended as well...my mom was actually … (1 comments)

sacramento association of realtors: Downpayment Assistance Ban Update - Nehemiah Good Thru 10/1/08? - 07/23/08 10:32 AM
According to Marlena Olson with the Vitek Mortgage Group, the Nehemiah Northern California Area Manager's (Donny Jones) outgoing voice message on his cell phone states -- Nehemiah has been given an extension until 10/1/08 to fund current and new requests. I trust Marlena is a valid source for this information...hopefully the Nehemiah folks are correct in issuing this info. Nehemiah borrowers - I would not waste time! Per my last post on this topic yesterday, this legislation will be voted on in the coming days, and if it passes will be put on President Bush's desk for his signature.

sacramento association of realtors: Young Professionals Council Fundraiser - 06/13/08 03:51 PM
I think I have mentioned in the past that I am a member of the Sacramento Association of Realtors "Young Professionals Council." In the midst of all the craziness in my schedule lately, the YPC put on a vendor fair at the end of May to raise money for the Loaves and Fishes' Mustard Seed school...if you do not know what Mustard Seed is, it is a school for homeless children. We raised over $3,300 from the vendors and attendees of the fair. SMUD actually donated $500 alone! Today, 3 other YPC members and I presented the co-directors of Mustard Seed … (0 comments)

sacramento association of realtors: CAR Legislative Day - 06/04/08 07:03 PM
Today I attended the CAR Legislative Day "morning briefing" at the Sacramento Convention Center.  Among the speakers were Pro-Tem Elect Darrell Steinberg, and the Assembly Republican Minority Leader Mike Villines...additionally the CAR brass.  It was definitely an eye-opening experience.  Until now I have been blissfully unaware of all the issues that affect the real estate industry and California property owners, and how CAR works to promote the interests of Realtors and citizens alike in our state legislature.  I had no idea that so much proposed legislation in CA affects our world, affects how we transact real estate, affects our clients, and property owners in general.

sacramento association of realtors: The Sacramento Bee Chimes in... - 05/22/08 03:38 AM
The Sacramento Bee published an article yesterday about the increase in the volume of closed real estate transactions...finally! As I have been saying for about the last two months now, there are several micro-markets in Sacramento that are really hot in certain price ranges. I am working with several buyers right now that have been in multiple offer situations...some of them got the property in the end thanks to some create manuevering on my part...and some of them have submitted 6+ offers, all coming up short. It is the wild west right now!
