Come celebrate the first day of summer at the Catonsville YMCA with a free family event on Friday, June 21st. The Going Country Family Round Up is from 5-8 pm and families do not have to belong to the Y to attend. Come for burgers and hot dogs, drinks and a favorite Baltimore tradition of pepermint sticks and lemons. There will be crafts, a moonbounce and game for the kids. The event is outside and the weather looks great. National Backyard Camping Day is Saturday, June 22nd and families can celebrate it at Benjamin Banneker Park & Museum in Oella. Their Family Night Hike and Campfire is 8pm - 10pm with hiking, a campfire with s'mores (of course), songs and stories.
What a great way for kids and adults to enjoy the great outdoors. Please call ahead to register at 410-887-1081. The museum is located near Catonsville at 300 Oella Ave just down the street from the Breadery and features Maryland historical artifacts and Banneker's log cabin. Living in the Catonsville & Ellicott City area means being less than an hour from a really amazing museum - the National Air and Space Museum's Steven Udvar Hazy Center. This place is filled with hundreds of airplanes from our nation's incredible history of aviation! It's really spectacular because of the great number of airplanes suspended from the 3 story ceiling. The space itself is the size of several airplane hangers and it's easy to spend several hours wandering the space. The museum is full of windows and natural light and is very family friendly. Howard County Families - time to get fit at Centennial Park! Howard County is the place to be for family fun and fitness on Saturday, June 3rd. An annual event - the Healthy Family Day will take place from 10am to 3pm at Centennial Park on 108. The Benjamin Banneker Park & Museum is hosting a Colonial Market Day this June 9th, 2012.
