international real estate: Intl Real Estate - How to Avoid the “Three-Margarita” Mistake, Part 2 - 02/12/14 06:34 AM
Part 2 in a series about Buying an International Property

Hello again from the fascinating world of international real estate. If you read my first post in this series, you’ll know that it’s my mission to help people find, purchase, and utterly adore their homes in foreign real estate markets.
Today, as they say, I have good news and bad news. The bad news is you have some homework to do. The good news is you can do it from your favourite armchair. I’m talking about saving time, energy, money – even heartache – by evaluating potential properties before you fly off … (0 comments)

international real estate: Love and Happiness ... - 02/12/14 06:28 AM
It’s getting close to Valentines Day and it seemed appropriate to write about love and happiness….
Have you ever fallen head over heels for a beautiful dream?Has someone you trusted done something to make you see red?Have you ever put your heart and soul into a relationship only to have it go horribly wrong?Did you ever fall in love to find out that things just weren’t what they seemed?
I'm not referring to a romance, but rather, buying property in another country!

international real estate: Visit to Casa Linda in the Dominican Republic - 6 - 08/15/13 03:06 AM
Visit to Casa Linda - 6 The last full day of my visit to Casa Linda started with another quiet, relaxed morning around my villa.  I was sitting out on the terrace enjoying my breakfast when I had quite  a mooooving experience - a herd of cows came up into the field behind the villa led by a rather noisy rooster with a number of them scaring the heck out of me by peering through the fence!!
Rich picked me up for lunch and we went to the Natura Spa and Cafe located in resort & residential community toward Cabarete.

international real estate: Visit to Casa Linda in the Dominican Republic - 5 - 08/15/13 02:58 AM
Visit to Casa Linda - 5 Today was a day to relax - didn't even wake up until 9 am.
As I had done every morning I went to open the door from my bedroom to the terrace when I noticed a 'guest' on the screen - decided I would leave the door closed!!  There are no dangerous critters in the Dominican Republic however I did feel that this one, harmless as it was, really didn't need to be on the inside!!
I dressed, made myself some tea and breakfast and went out on the terrace to enjoy the relative coolness of the … (0 comments)

international real estate: Visit to Casa Linda in the Dominican Republic - 4 - 08/15/13 02:51 AM
Visit to Casa Linda - 4 Had a lazy start to my day, relaxed breakfast and a dip in the pool before hitting the shower and heading out and about with Rich at around 10 a.m. for a more 'detailed' look at Casa Linda
We drove in and around the completed phases.  It was great to see the different villa designs, how they have evolved over the years and to see how the landscaping has matured over the years.
The older neighbourhoods (started 16 years ago) have lush mature landscaping, palms and tropical plants provide 'fences' and privacy. The use of landscaping instead … (0 comments)

international real estate: Trip to Belize - Part 3 - 03/12/13 02:06 AM
Trip to Belize - Part 3
A pleasant & relaxing afternoon & evening ...
After a busy morning visiting the Copal development, the Residences, having a drive around the site of the Placencia International Airport and visiting Dave’s home we headed back to the resort to enjoy the rest of the day.
After popping to my room to freshen up and check my e-mails I went over to the restaurant for lunch.
It was such a beautiful day that I decided that I would sit out on the terrace overlooking the ocean.
One thing I have learned on my visits to … (0 comments)

international real estate: Trip to Belize - Part 2 - 03/02/13 02:32 AM
After a very good nights sleep I awoke to the sound of birds outside my window.  I opened up the blinds and was greeted by colourful birds chirping in the trees and the magnificent sight of a cloudless blue sky and bright sunshine!  WOW - it was a very pleasant change to the cloudy, cold & white landscape I had woken up to the previous morning!
I got myself ready for the day, applying plenty of sunscreen and went off for breakfast - I didn’t want to waste a moment of this glorious day!  I took the pathway toward the main … (0 comments)

international real estate: My Belize Blog - Day 1 - 02/24/13 11:16 AM
I recently spent a week reviewing a development from our portfolio and one potential new addition, in Belize.
As they say - getting there is half the fun ...
I flew from Toronto to Dallas, Dallas to Belize International and then took the Maya Island Air flight down to Placencia.
Some people prefer to rent a car and drive down to Placencia - it's about a 3 hour drive on good roads.  I chose to take the 45 minute flight. I didn't much fancy the drive alone  especially as it would be getting dark.  It really wasn't a safety concern - … (2 comments)
