retirement home buyers: Area Property Owners Get a Jump on Retirement - 05/20/13 12:08 AM

The other day I ran across some eyebrow-raising financial trivia. There’s a takeaway that should be encouraging for everyone who already own property in town. The undeniable value of home ownership is pretty clear when you take a look at some of these financial facts —  According to the Employee Benefit Research Institute, 56% of workers report that they haven’t even attempted to calculate how much money they will need for a comfortable retirement. That should get them thinking (although it looks like it hasn’t). If the Center for Retirement Research is right that only 42% of private sector … (0 comments)

retirement home buyers: Tax, Personal Benefits Promote Pelican Bay Vacation Homes and Condos - 01/22/13 06:28 AM

According to the National Association of Realtors®, last year the number of sales for vacation homes continued to rise following the staggering 64.5% gain in all investment home sales for 2011.  The consensus has it that promising statistics are likely to repeat in 2013.
Perhaps it is an improvement in Naples’s vacation homes outlook, or maybe it’s because of the recent media focus on personal tax issues…whatever the reason, it looks as if 2013 may be seen as a particularly inviting time to make a first vacation home investment. Although I don’t offer tax advice (your CPA and … (0 comments)

retirement home buyers: Retirement Question -- Buy a Home or Rent ? - 01/05/13 02:03 AM

You don’t have to be on the verge of retirement to begin thinking about the nuts and bolts of your future living arrangements. There is more to it than just adjusting your monthly budget. For many people who are winding up their full-time working lives, a governing decision – one that will affect countless others – is whether to buy a home, continue in one you already own, or to rent.
Some retirees view shedding home ownership as a stress-reliever. If they decide to migrate -- whether to a milder climate or to be closer to the grandkids … (0 comments)

retirement home buyers: Pending Home Sales Rise Triples Forecast - 07/03/12 02:41 AM

The housing industry recovery has been underway for a while now, but for the most part, the upward movement has been moving at a snail’s pace. Experts are in broad agreement that the trend is there -- but the turnaround rate has been tepid. For those of us watching from our Pelican Bay and Bay Colony perspective, it’s been a pretty unexciting rebound.
So last week’s good national news on existing home sales was especially welcome, because the report indicated that the 5.9% increase was more than three times greater than economists expected. According to the National Association … (2 comments)

retirement home buyers: Just How Valuable are “Property Values”? - 03/26/12 11:11 PM

It’s a little bit like real estate’s Rite of Spring:  like new flowers ’s April sun in Pelican Bay. And since we are used to hearing how “property values” are still battling to rebound, this season the ‘Sale’ part of those signs is likely to be taken more literally than usual.
But since “property values” seems to be such an important measure, what is really behind the term? Who determines Pelican Bay’s “property values” – and how?
We aren’t just talking about some abstract Econ 101 textbook definition of economic principals. We are dealing with a family’s major … (5 comments)

retirement home buyers: To Buy a Home or Rent: That is the Question ??? - 03/26/12 12:49 AM

It’s a fact that many folks in Pelican Bay decide not to buy a home or condo. Aiming to save some cash, they rent instead. They may feel that it makes more sense to work on rebuilding their portfolios, put some extra cash into a rainy day fund, save for retirement, or for college -- for any number of worthy goals.
These would all be prudent financial maneuvers, but only if the original assumption is correct. But today’s environment is creating a new reality. It’s one where renting may not be as much of a cost … (0 comments)
