This beautiful orange lily just popped open this morning in an old pot whose flowers had long ago died. I don't recall these lilies ever being there, so the seed must have migrated. Maybe it's a sign that something good is going to happen. A "windfall" perhaps? Darn, I didn't buy a lottery ticket!

It's just what happens in the "wilds" of Cape Canaveral to preserve the species. Maybe National Geo will pick it up :-)

I shot this music video at Friday Fest in Cape Canaveral, Florida, 10/7/2011. We have a lot of talent here on the Space Coast and Mo Geetz is at the top of the list! It's a great place to meet your neighbors and talk with good friends. I think every community could benefit from an event like this and as a Realtor, I can say it certainly helps to identify me as an accessible local expert. I don't think I walked more than 30 feet without running into someone I know. Life is good!

I walked down to the Banana River Lagoon at sundown on 9/11/11 and tried to make sense of why tragedies like the WTC happen. The obvious answer is that the human race has not yet evolved to the point of eliminating violence and murder. Will we ever get there? I asked the clouds because the sun disappeared not wanting to answer.

Newsflash: Holiday has been found and returned to owners Tom and Cathy. He was only a few blocks away and a lady who saw my Craig's List Ad knew where he lived. The naughty bird is now back in his cage and will have his wings clipped next week. "Holiday" the Macaw gives us quite a show on top of his cage. His wings are not clipped and he sometimes flies into the palm trees to escape aggressive feral cats but he can take care of himself. They give him his space for the most part. This is the new sign put up by the Sandbar Sports Grill and The Cocoa Beach Surf Company. Hey - all you have to do (so far) is buy a beer and you can park free. Plus your car doesn't become part of an artificial reef! :-)
I used to play music at this bar on week ends as "Surfside Johnny". There's usually a pretty good crowd, the beer is cold and the food is great. Click on "Area Links" below to learn more about the Cocoa Beach area.

These still photos were captured from my new Panasonic HDC-TM90 Video Camera at Cape Canaveral's Friday Fest. For only having a 5mp still resolution, I think they turned out pretty well and thought I would share them. This means I might not have to take my much heavier Nikon D90 cave rafting this Oct. :-)
It was early evening around 7 pm and the low sun created sculpted shadows on these beautiful orchids.
A snow white, soon to be sleeping beauty. :-)

I'm experimenting with the video and stills taken from my beach area in Cape Canaveral and Cocoa Beach. I even added one of my original songs called "Crazy Old Man". The next one will be better. That is, of course, if I can justify to the wife buying a new Panasonic SD90 1080p camcorder :-) This video was shot with my Nikon D90, an excellent DSLR but so-so vid cam. Enjoy the show and the music!

By the time I got to Manatee Park in Cape Canaveral, the sun was almost gone. I had to snap this "dead tree" sunset fast! The park is on the shores of the Banana River Lagoon and offers a wide variety of events including an Annual Art Festival.
Cape Canaveral Beach at Sundown looking Southeast. No surfing tonight!
Quite a few people took advantage of the cooler evening air to enjoy a walk along the shore. Tomorrow it will go back up to 95 humid degrees.

There is nothing better than walking out the door and snipping fresh basil for my dinner tonight. I'll be adding it to my special Basmati Rice and the Mahi Mahi with Shrimp will have a few leaves thrown in as well. It's my wife's favorite!
Basil is an annual and is easily grown from seed. There are over two dozen types of basil including lettuce-leaf which has large leaves, cinnamon basil and the purple leaved varieties. Though it needs full sun, it does need more moisture than some herbs, so be sure to keep it watered; especially in pots. For … (18 comments)

These classic Indian Bikes immediately caught my eye as I was walking toward Cocoa Beach by Coconuts. Indian Motorcycles were manufactured in the USA from 1901 to 1953 and now a new company has been manufacturing the latest version since 2006.
The owners were both local, one from Cocoa Beach, the other from Titusville.
Ready to Ride! You could tell these guys really loved their bikes!

I start my daily bike ride around 6 or 7pm and take along my trusty (and small) Canon point and shoot just in case. My route takes me along Ridgewood Ave. to the Cocoa Beach Pier where the first two photos were taken, then back to Jump's Tiny Tavern to throw a few horseshoes. From there, I head toward the Port and back home again after stopping briefly at the beach crossover at Taylor Ave. to watch the surf roll in. Life is good!

Florida Residents see gators as just part of the landscape but have a healthy respect for the possible dangers of getting too close. If you want to go swimming, we have miles and miles of beautiful beaches but if you need a fresh water fix, there are safe places to go. Nuisance Gators are either trapped and released or end on on the menu. Tastes like chicken!
