Florida Snowbirds are Arriving Every Day and it's time to be vigilent on the road and respectful of other people's space on the beach. Not everyone knows where they are going and it drives the locals crazy. We depend on tourism to help the local economy, so let's hope everyone just has fun! A word to the wise...be carefull if you are driving from Port Canaveral after having a nice dinner and maybe a few "cold ones". The local "constabulary" will be waiting. Take a cab.

I hesitate to post local "drama" to Active Rain but I feel that my clients need to know where to stay away from, especially if they are new to the area. My group used to play horseshoes there before the husband and wife who leased the business locked horns and hired lawyers. It has gone downhill ever since and even violent thanks to the psycho wife who has decided that I am evil because I sided with the husband along with all the rest of the horseshoe players. Florida's Space Coast in Brevard County has some of the best Music and Entertainment you can find anywhere in the world. Pictued below are the "Legendary" Groove Monsters. They disbanded after Dave Fiester and Steve Miller tragically passed away too early in life but the blues tradition carries on from Titusville to Cocoa Beach to Melbourne. The Cove in Port Canaveral is always a good bet to find great music and seafood, Lou's Blues in Indiailantic features all the best bands and Cocoa Beach has a myriad of talented musicians in all genres. Susan and Chris won the Jump's Tiny Tavern Horseshoe Tournament on Sat. beating stiff competition. We're talking a lot of ringers here! Congrats!!!
Iraqi war hero Justin at the bar after the tournament. We have a lot of VETS in this area that deserve our thanks. He plays a mean guitar and his story will be coming soon. He was in country when Saddam was pulled out of his rat hole.

Have a Spooky Halloween! Donna and I are going to Jump's Tiny Tavern in Cocoa Beach. We may even get costumes :-) It's all good fun and one of the many things to enjoy here on the Space Coast. We also have an air show in Melbourne on Saturday.

Every year Gino and Jump's Tiny Tavern in Cocoa Beach, Fl. sponsor a Christmas Horseshoe Tournament. The competition is fierce and Tom's BBQ is excellent as always! Everyone brought sides and there was a real sense of community with lots of Christmas spirit. I was voted MVP!
Gino, Susan and Boston. Gino and Boston won the tournament.

space coast: 4th of July Fireworks Video and Photos from Port Canaveral, Florida

Fireworks displays were everywhere here on Florida's Space Coast. This video was taken with my Panasonic HD-TM90 beside Fishlips Restaurant in Port Canaveral. It also features views of the after fireworks party at Grill's and the Port after dark. The stills were captured from the video and "tweaked" a little. Enjoy!
This video is best viewed in HD 720p or 1080p depending on how fast your connection is.
Canada Day was held on July 1st. I hope all of my friends and family up north had as good a time as I did this year!

This beautiful orange lily just popped open this morning in an old pot whose flowers had long ago died. I don't recall these lilies ever being there, so the seed must have migrated. Maybe it's a sign that something good is going to happen. A "windfall" perhaps? Darn, I didn't buy a lottery ticket!

space coast: Speechless Sundays - Hairy-Footed Flower Bee, Gecko and Portulacas in a Cape Canaveral Garden

My wife planted these portulacas in a hanging basket that are really doing well. The beautiful orange flowers attracted this hairy-footed female flower bee (I think) that got the attention of our fake yellow gecko :-).
There are about 40 to 100 species of portulacas found in the tropics and warm, temperate regions. They are also more commonly known as Moss Roses. There's that bee again.

Space Shuttle Endeavour Launches for the Last Time on Friday 4/29/2011 at 3:47 pm. It will be a madhouse all along the Space Coast with parked cars on the side of the road, filled viewing areas and packed beaches. Traffic is usually insane so I only go where my bike can take me and my camera. Fortunately, the beach is only a few minutes away. Commander Mark Kelly's wife, US Representative Gabrielle Giffords, is cleared to attend. President Obama will reportedly be there too. The shuttle program has been good for my area and I'll be sad to see it end … (8 comments)

Thunder on Cocoa Beach Super Boats were on display in Port Canaveral on Friday in preparation for the big race on Sunday. The event is expected to pump a lot of money into Brevard County businesses. Event Schedule.
The boats will do practice runs on Saturday and fans are already lining the beach to get a good view.

Marla and I went to Milliken's Reef in Port Canaveral today, relaxed and had a great time. We had wings and coconut shrimp. You need to take a break every now and then :-)
Freedom of the Seas sailing by to cruise in the Bahamas
The Mo Geetz Band is phenominal and features the best guitarist on the Space Coast in Austin Petit. Micah Read is a great vocalist and front man and composes original songs for the band. They are definitly a must see group if you visit the Space Coast.
