selling a home: What's the Word Wednesday? Local - 01/17/18 07:55 AM
One of the definitions of local, according to Merriam-Webster is: of or belong to or characteristic of a particular locality or neighborhood.  When I think local, I think about the West Chester area.
Where do you go for dinner locally?  Living in the West Chester area, one of my favorite local spots is Limoncello.  Everyone who knows me knows this is my favorite "go to" place.  It's the first place I think of when I have a happy hour with friends, and it's where I go for lunch and it's where I buy gift cards for my clients if they are celebrating … (2 comments)

selling a home: What's the Word Wednesday? Photos - 01/09/18 11:12 AM
If a picture paints a thousand words, then why does this listing only have one photo on the MLS?
In today's real estate world, our MLS allows up to 25 photos.  Quantity does not trump quality, however, and there's actually a pretty funny Facebook page devoted to bad MLS photos.  As an agent for over 30 years, I've seen it all.  Grammie still in bed in the main bedroom.  A stripper pole in the dining room.  Blurry photos, sideways photos, upside down photos.
One of my mom's favorite expressions was "you can't take a photo of a lemon and expect it to look like a … (4 comments)

selling a home: What's the Word Wednesday? Packing - 01/03/18 07:37 AM
There's a Jerry Seinfeld quote that goes like this:
"To me, if life boils down to one thing, it's movement.  To live is to keep moving".
To follow that along to a logical conclusion, if you are moving, you are going to be packing.  If you are packing for a move, you're going to need boxes!  Depending on your stage in life, you may have a professional packer and mover, or, if you're a first-time buyer, you're likely to just need boxes.
When my son moved from his apartment to his first home purchase, I asked him if he needed boxes.  He had already ordered … (5 comments)

selling a home: What's the word Wednesday? Signs - 04/10/13 07:21 AM
There's a song from my youth (or thereabouts, I can't really remember), by the Five Man Electrical Band, with lyrics that went like this:  Sign, Sign, everywhere a sign, Blockin' out the scenery, breakin' my mind.  Do this, don't do that, can't you read the sign??
I’m big on signs.  I have them all over the house.  They aren’t breakin’ up the scenery so much as breaking me up as I smile when I look at them.  Most were given to me as gifts, the one about my little dog, of course, I bought myself!
Who wouldn't want to spoil such … (33 comments)

selling a home: Selling a home? 24 hours notice is not a good idea. - 10/12/11 09:00 AM
When selling your home the best course of action is to make the home as available to real estate agents as possible.  24 hours notice is not a good idea in the scheme of things.   If an agent is making appointments and it's 12:00 today, appointment centers will not call the seller if the agent wants to show the home tomorrow at 11.  They will say they are unable to make the appointment because the seller requires 24 hours notice.
Silly?  You betcha.  But those are the rules that most appointment centers are following.  Common sense has little or nothing … (9 comments)

selling a home: How do you pick a real estate agent? - 08/25/09 08:10 AM
I have been in the business of helping people buy and sell homes for almost 25 years.  Exactly half my life, as it turns out, as my 50th birthday is in September.  I have always wondered how most people pick a real estate agent.  I'm guessing that most ask for referrals from friends and family.  I know that I am at my most successful in the buying and selling relationships that I have formed when the buyers or sellers have called me because they were referred by someone they know.  There is an immediate trust that is built that I find … (24 comments)
