thankful thursday: Thankful Thursday, 6/15 - 06/15/23 12:09 PM
We just came off of a really long dry spell in Chester County, PA.  Thankfully, we've finally had some rain!  My flowers and grass are very grateful!
Today I am thankful for being able to do a lot of work from home with my pets, my little granddaughter, and her parents.  Right now my little cat is sitting on my desk staring at my keyboard!
My little dog Joey is always glad when I am working from home!
Cats, dogs, and babies are a lot to be thankful for!
Carpe Diem!

thankful thursday: Thankful Thursday! I'm a Grandmom! - 06/08/23 08:19 AM
It's been so long since I wrote a Thankful Thursday post, I thought now would be a good time to resurrect this habit.
Why?  I am a grandmother!
Little Mila was born on 5/13.  She has brought joy to our household!
Here she is with my other baby, Joey!
Happy Thursday!
Carpe Diem!

thankful thursday: Thankful Thursday, 10/1/2020 - 10/01/20 09:57 AM
It's been a minute (months) since I've written a Thankful Thursday post.  It seems fitting that since we have a "whole new month"  as my younger son once said when he was a little boy, that today would be a good day to restart.
It's been a year, hasn't it?  Strange, scary, uncertain.  But there have been good things happening.  We've discovered how much we miss the simple act of breaking bread with friends.  We realize how important the human touch is.  We've learned that we can go it alone but that we'd really be happier not doing it that way.  We've … (6 comments)

thankful thursday: Thankful Thursday 8/8/19 - 08/08/19 06:34 PM
I went to a wedding the weekend before last.  One of my dearest friend's daughter married a lovely young man at an exquisite venue near Lancaster.  If you haven't heard or been to Moonstone Manor, you are missing out.  Absolutely lovely grounds and facilities.
Seeing a young woman I've known since she was a little girl get married, and seeing the love of her mom and dad was a blessing and I am so grateful that I was able to attend. I am also grateful that I was the agent who they turned to when it was time to buy their first … (4 comments)

thankful thursday: Thankful Thursday, 6/6/19 - 06/06/19 10:55 AM
I love Thursdays because it forces me out of my day to day into a place of gratitude when I sit down to write these Thankful Thursday posts.   My top 10 things to be thankful for are:
Today is June 6, the 75th anniversary of D-day.  To say it's hard to imagine the amount of courage it took for the men who fought that day is an understatement.  We should all be eternally grateful to them for their courage and for the sacrifice so many made of their lives so that we can have freedom today.  The world would be a much … (3 comments)

thankful thursday: Thankful Thursday, 5/2/19 - 05/02/19 05:56 PM
I had to empty my pool this year because last year, I wasn't able to keep enough chlorine in the water.  No matter how much I added, when I took the water to be tested, it was low.  The pool company suggested that since I haven't emptied the pool since it went in about 15 years ago, that we should try that.
I went and bought myself a nifty little electric pressure washer and I thought I'd have a few hours of zen while I power washed the walls and floor of my now empty pool.  I never read directions but for … (7 comments)

It's been a pretty lovely April.
The spring flowering bulbs put on quite a show and the flowering trees were magnificent.  I have had my son Max here for a few weekends home to see friends and my son Mike was here for Easter. My heart was overflowing.  There really is nothing as nice as enjoying the company of grown children.  I'm very grateful that they like to come home and spend time with their little momma.  It's funny to switch places, for now, I feel like they are looking out for me more than or at least as often as I … (6 comments)

thankful thursday: Thankful Thursday, 4/18/19 - 04/18/19 07:16 AM
Where does the time go?  Here we are, more than halfway through April.
The good news is that Spring has really sprung in Chester County.  My grass is gloriously green.  My trees are flowering and I have daffodils galore!  It is such a wonderful awakening of life and every year I am grateful to still be here to see it.
Now is a good time to clear out the old and ring in the new.  I've been doing that slowly but surely in my garden beds and it's so rewarding to see the fruits of your own labor.
April is nearing the middle to … (5 comments)

Thursdays and Sundays are Body Combat days.  At least they are for me when Michael Hartman is teaching!
Michael Hartman, in my humble opinion, is truly the heart and soul of ACAC.  He is one of many wonderful instructors at ACAC and he embodies all that is good in the world.  He's enthusiastic about teaching, he's hilariously funny, he's kind, he's open-minded, he's welcoming.  He encourages me to come and "just do what you can" when I'm having a flareup of knee issues.

Today, I was running a few minutes late and as soon as I entered, I heard my name being called … (3 comments)

thankful thursday: Thankful Thursday, 2/7/19 - 02/07/19 10:06 AM
Earlier this week, we experienced what can only be described as a miracle.  The temperature on Monday and Tuesday was summer like in comparison to the bitter cold we experienced only a few days before that.
Going from temperatures of "I can't feel my face" to "where are my shorts and t-shirts?" is much more pleasant than the reverse of going from warmer temperatures to freezing cold.  In fact, when it hit 26 degrees over the weekend, it actually felt like spring compared to the 1-degree temperature last week.  Crazy times but I'm not going to complain.  I spent two afternoons bagging leaves … (2 comments)

thankful thursday: Thankful Thursday, 3/8/18 International Women's Day - 03/08/18 04:54 PM
I am blessed with so many wonderful women in my life that if I tried to name all of them this post would never end.
I can't let the day go by without honoring my mom, who was my fiercest and most loyal fan and there isn't a day that goes by that I don't wish I could see her, call her, hug her, laugh with her and just know she's there.   She overcame many hardships and at the final hardship, she overcame it in her own way, with great dignity and courage.
My sister, Liz, who is brave, fierce (scary even .... just kidding), creative, … (1 comments)

thankful thursday: Thankful Thursday, 11/17/16 - 11/16/16 11:46 PM
For some reason, the election notwithstanding, I have gotten away from my weekly visits to post my Thankful Thursdays.  Life has a way of getting in the way of living, doesn't it?
My friend Jeff Belonger, who used to be very active here on Active Rain, now a has great Philly blog called MyPhillyAlive.com.   He sends me a note every now and then on Facebook to share some of his posts because he knows I grew up in Philadelphia and that both of my sons now live there, one in Queen Village and one attending Temple University.
Today's post was about the … (3 comments)

thankful thursday: Thankful Thursday 3/10/16 - 03/09/16 10:36 PM
Yesterday it was almost 80 degrees here in West Chester.  For the better part of the day I did no real estate as it was simply joyful to be doing yard cleanup in March!  I was outside most of the day, got a tiny bit of color on my nose, got a wireless dog fence set up for my little dog and filled 3 bags with yard waste from inside the pool fence.
The dog fence is a subject for another less thankful post.  It's a hearing world and to test the fence, you need to be able to hear beeps. … (11 comments)

It's finally April!  After a very long and dreary winter, the sun is shining and while the spring flowers are a little slow getting here this year, I went outside today and there's one!  I'll take it... beggars can't be choosers is what my little momma always said.

Soon the world will brighten up with flowering trees and shrubs and the weather will warm us.  I'm looking forward to color in my landscape and warm breezes.  Today, I'm thankful for the sun, for the single flower that lifted my winter worn heart and for my familym friends and pets.

thankful thursday: Thankful Thursday, 3/26/15 - 03/26/15 03:26 AM
It's raining, it's pouring...  again.  We've had a considerable about of precipitation this year, either snow or rain and frankly, I'm getting a little tired of the color gray.  It's almost April so I am going to try to look at it that April showers will bring May flowers.
I was online last night, messaging with two friends I made here on Active Rain that I consider my brother and sister from a different mother and mister.  Jesse and Elizabeth and I were literally laughing out loud and nothing soothes the soul like a good belly laugh.  I'm ever grateful … (6 comments)

A funny thing happened today while I preparing to deliver Meals on Wheels and it turned out so nicely.  I was putting the food that I pick up at Pembrooke Nursing Home into my car when a man came up to me and asked me if I was a Meals on Wheels delivery person.  Apparently, through a miscommunication, he thought he was meeting a driver today who would take two 8th grade students from a local school along for the ride so they could see someone giving back to the community.

The sun is shining, the grass is green, the orange and palm trees sway.... There's never been such a day...
Oh wait... we're not in LA.  Especially not Beverly Hills LA.  It's still a favorite song of mine on the Barbra Streisand Christmas CD.   I am getting into the spirit of Christmas and when I hear that CD, my thoughts go to an old friend named Norman, who upon entering my house one Christmas, and hearing the CD, exclaimed, "why is a Jew singing goyisha Christmas Carols?!"  Of course, Norman is Jewish and obviously he was kidding, because he is married to … (4 comments)

It's been a very sad week for the world.  I don't usually cry when celebrities pass on, although I do feel sad if the world loses one of my favorites.  The world lost a bright light this week, and to a suicide, which makes the loss so much sadder, and I did indeed cry.  With each news story, each heartfelt tweet or comment, the sadness rolled over me.  Robin Williams was a gift and his family has suffered a huge loss.  I spent the beginning of the week trying to come to terms with his suicide and I simply couldn't shake … (5 comments)

It's been a while since I've written a Thankful Thursday post and in honor of Mother's Day, I'd like to write about the moms for whom I am very thankful for.  My own little Momma, of course, tops the list.   This will be my first Mother's Day without my mom and it hit me the other day while I was in a Hallmark Store, thinking about buying some of my favorite clients a mother's day card.  I stood there for a minute and decided that maybe this year, it wasn't a good idea to read mother's day cards.   We all … (4 comments)

As many of you know by watching the news, our area was hit by a bizarre ice storm yesterday leaving thousands, over 600,000 people, without electricity.   In our rural areas this also means without water, as well pumps run on electricity.  This also means, for the most part, people are without heat, unless they are lucky enough to have a wood burning or gas powered stove or fireplace.  For those of us with electric ranges, this also means no cooking.
Our power went out early yesterday morning.   I'm not sure exactly when but at 6:15 or so when the … (12 comments)
