colorado: A new wildfire season is upon us - are you prepared? - 06/25/14 12:49 AM

Are you Wildfire Ready? In 2012, an estimated $449.7 million in insurance claims were filed due to wildfires across Colorado. The Waldo Canyon fire was the most expensive in Colorado history with 346 homes destroyed and $352.6 million from 4300 claims. As fire season is upon the state of Colorado again, it is important for homeowners to be prepared before, during and after a catastrophic event like a wildfire.

colorado: Spring could bring severe floods - Try out this special app - 06/25/14 12:39 AM

[Flash] Floods could happen any time With the catastrophic flooding across the state of Colorado in 2013 and wild fires increasing the risk of flooding in areas below the burn scars across the state, now is the time [again] to talk and think about this increased risk – and possibly about flood insurance.
In 2013, it was estimated that over 20,000 structures were damaged across the state in the September flood event. Of those damaged structures, only approximately 2,100 building owners had a flood policy with the National Flood Insurance Program to assist them in rebuilding after a catastrophic … (1 comments)

colorado: It's a great time to sell your home - and win! - 06/25/14 12:20 AM

As the real estate market has been recovering over the past few years, there were many home owners that unfortunately lost their shirt. Others have been holding on (we have) and stayed put, just because losing the money that they have put into the house was not an option. The tide has turned – and it has turned in a big way.

Inventory is extremely low and buyers are competing for the few “good” and well priced homes on the market. Many buyers are still pushing into the market because of the military moving season and because … (0 comments)

colorado: Bears, Fox, Deer, Coyote, Mountain Lion…Wildlife! - 04/15/14 11:04 PM

Intro to “The Wildlife” So when it comes to being a responsible homeowner and locking up all the things the local wildlife find appetizing, I must admit I am negligent.  YOU try getting three teenagers to close the fridge, much less shut the garage doors behind them in the evenings.  The fact is, if you live this close to the mountains, you WILL encounter some of the local wildlife…which is not at all scary…or shouldn’t be.  Here’s what you’ll find:
Mule Deer…perhaps the most common because they like to forage around people’s houses for tasty shrubs and occasionally hang out … (3 comments)

colorado: University Village Shopping Center, Colorado Springs - 03/13/14 08:16 AM

Why University Village Shopping Center in Colorado Springs ? Actually, the only reason that I discovered this shopping center was Costco.
We live in the Southwest of Colorado Springs and this area is notoriously “underserved” with retail shops. Don’t get me wrong, I love living here, but shopping can turn into a full day event if you need to go to the other side of town to be able to check all items off your list.
The happier I was when Costco on North Nevada opened. That’s about all I knew about this area and I didn’t pay much attention … (0 comments)

colorado: Backbowls At Keystone Ski Resort {Outdoor Living} - 12/01/13 03:27 AM
I have written before about being in Keystone and that you DON'T really have to be a skier, because there are so many other options for fun.  However, if you are a skier or boarder, then Keystone Ski Resort in Colorado is definitely the place to be. Take a look at the video and see if you like what you see.
Get ready for the season.   Mike at Keystone from Tim Haynie on Vimeo.

colorado: Romantic Christmas Market in Georgetown, Colorado - 12/01/13 03:14 AM
Every year around Christmas I yearn for the traditional European Christmas Markets from my youth. I have long given up on finding what I remember...let's face it...it's not Germany and that's ok. So I take what comes close - like the Denver Christmas Christmas Market that was really fun last year. The city of Denver has done a great job and I am looking forward to going this year again.
However, my favorite Christmas Market so far has been in Georgetown, Co. Georgetown is easily accessible right off I-70 - you can see it when you drive past on your way to … (0 comments)

colorado: 24 hours in Breckenridge, CO - 10/17/13 07:05 AM
We were both elated when our friends invited us for an overnight stay in Breckenridge.
Breckenridge is only a short 1.5 hours away from Colorado Springs, how could we resist this offer?
It was short, but still a much appreciated break. Nails, sushi, brunch - Yardsale stop in Alma at the Montessori school there where we scored 2 brandnew ski boots for me and our daughter Anna. Sounds like a perfect weekend to me?!
On top of that I received a phonecall from another Realtor, that her clients liked my listing and that she would write up an offer today. Not … (1 comments)

colorado: McCullough Gulch Traill To Upper Blue Reservoir near Breckenridge,CO - 10/17/13 06:58 AM

The last weekend in June we spent in Breckenridge. On our way 'out' we stopped at a trailhead that we had heard about from other folks. It was quite rainy, we were tight on time and my friend wore flipflops so we decided to drive up the road instead of hiking the trail.
McCullough Gulch Trail  lies in the shadow of 14er Quandary Peak. You can take the car up the dirt road or you can "do the work" and take the trail. The trail climbs 1600 feet in 2 miles along a stream with several waterfalls and ends up at a … (0 comments)

We need to keep our Colorado folks fit AND happy, and the best way to start is with kids!

Golden Leaf Half Marathon in Aspen - {Discover Colorado} This year would be the fourth year that we are running the Golden Leaf Half Marathon. (13.1 miles, 980 feet elevation gain, 1,712 feet mountainous trail descent)
The past few years, we have always made it a weekend. We camped at Difficult Campground for which this is one of the last  weekends it's open.

colorado: Colorado’s Most Scenic Drives to See Fall Colors - 10/03/13 06:33 AM

The waters are receding and Colorado Springs is starting to dry out. Time to start enjoying Colorado’s beauty again. I can’t believe that it is already October and the store displays are filled with Halloween decor. By this time last year the Aspens had already all turned their colors. It is a beautiful spectacle and should not be missed – it’s not over yet and if you have any time at all, hop in the car or on your motorcycle and drive one of the scenic byways.

If you live in Colorado Springs, then the Gold Belt Tour -basically … (1 comments)

colorado: Christmas Market In Denver 2012 - 12/22/12 12:19 PM
I had planned to see the Denver Christmas Market for a while. The Christmas Market started at the end of November and the merchants in their booths had been there for over 30 days. Today was the last day of the market. I was so glad when my family agreed to all come along to spend a couple of hours in Denver. We all had a great time, maybe because we didn't expect much. It is NOT the Nuernberg Market, but this is NOT Nuernberg! I thought it was well done though, with real wooden booths that sold tchotchkes - some German, … (2 comments)
