Volunteering is the best way to celebrate the holidays! Each year, clean, new or like-new coats are collected over a period of several months, with the "Coats for Kids" campaign promoted by our local abc-tv station, News10. This was the 17th year of the program, and over 40,000 coats were donated in Sacramento County and surrounding counties this year. And despite its name, the program gives coats to all family members, babies to elderly and every age in between.Salvation Army Sacramento receives a large number of the coats, and with some of its volunteers, sorts and organizes the coats by (3 comments)
Yesterday Jon and I had a volunteer opportunity that I wrote a bit about last night. We helped the Sacramento Salvation Army at coat distribution day for the Coats for Kids event at Cal Expo. For more information about the distribution, see my earlier post. Today I took the video snippets I took during breaks in the action and edited them together to make a video to share with you. I have to say that I am so impressed with the way the Salvation Army organizes these events. They run with such smoothness and with a system designed not (6 comments)
December 30: Today Jon and I volunteered with the Sacramento Salvation Army for the distribution of coats to needy families. There were thousands of coats from infant size to XXX adult – coats for the entire family. Many of the coats were donated as a result of the Coats for Kids drive promoted by our local abc-tv affiliate, channel 10 news, and the distribution took place from around 7:00 am to 7:00 pm. Jon and I were on the noon-4pm shift. It was wonderful seeing so many families come in for coats. I had to talk some of (34 comments)
