Volunteering is the best way to celebrate the holidays! Each year, clean, new or like-new coats are collected over a period of several months, with the "Coats for Kids" campaign promoted by our local abc-tv station, News10. This was the 17th year of the program, and over 40,000 coats were donated in Sacramento County and surrounding counties this year. Yesterday Jon and I had a volunteer opportunity that I wrote a bit about last night. We helped the Sacramento Salvation Army at coat distribution day for the Coats for Kids event at Cal Expo. For more information about the distribution, see my earlier post. Today I took the video snippets I took during breaks in the action and edited them together to make a video to share with you. December 30: Today Jon and I volunteered with the Sacramento Salvation Army for the distribution of coats to needy families. There were thousands of coats from infant size to XXX adult – coats for the entire family. Many of the coats were donated as a result of the Coats for Kids drive promoted by our local abc-tv affiliate, channel 10 news, and the distribution took place from around 7:00 am to 7:00 pm. December 29: Jon and I took some time today to make our plans for the balance of the holidays, and talk with family members. I had a long conversation with, Kevin O’Connell, a trust attorney with whom I have a referral history. He has referred a number of his clients to me and I have also sent him several clients. I value his friendship and believe him to be the best at what he does. December 21: This was a VERY busy day. First thing in the morning I got to work on my database, determined to get that up to date and add a lot of search tags and qualifiers to the entries so that I can better organize my mailings and emailings. Then I got ready and left for Cal Expo, the state fairgrounds, to volunteer for the distribution of Christmas food and toys to needy families from the Salvation Army. December 21: Today was the big payoff for the year of fundraising for the Salvation Army (You may have been reading my blog posts about the CanTree committee of the Sacramento Association of Realtors). I was fortunate to have the opportunity to participate in the distribution of toys and food for the holidays to families in need. It all took place at Cal Expo – our state fairgrounds.
