For the third consecutive year, Saskatoon is the fastest growing city of any census metropolitan area in Canada, according to StatsCan. Saskatoon grew at a rate of 40.4 per thousand, the first time a city has grown at that rate in over 15 years. The population as of July 1, 2012 was 284,000, an increase of 11,200 from July 1 of 2011.
Saskatoon is also the youngest city in Canada, according to StatsCan. The median age of residents of the city is 34.9, well below the national average of 40.
