buckingtherealestatetrendcom: The Great Smoky Mountains National Park Elk Showed Their Stuff on Saturday. - 04/18/10 08:50 PM
Saturday I enjoyed another photography class with Bob Grytten, and we were lucky enough to have great weather early in the morning, and to be greeted almost at the entrance of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park with quite a few elk. They were grazing and seemed to be posing for us at times.
Many people visit this area to visit the elk, as it just takes about 30 minutes from Maggie Valley to drive up the mountain and reach the entrance of the National Park. Early morning and late afternoon provide the best opportunities to see the elk.

buckingtherealestatetrendcom: Spring Has Sprung in Maggie Valley NC. - 04/18/10 09:49 AM
These beautiful magnolias are blooming right in my yard. The crabapple trees are quite beautiful with their pink blooms, and even the apple trees have very beautiful blooms in various stages. I think the flowers were really ready for Spring, as we all were!
So far we haven't had our 'normal' April snow, so maybe the 'snow Gods' feel we got enough snow during winter and are giving us a break this year in April.

buckingtherealestatetrendcom: Have Breakfast at Ceviche's on Main in Downtown Waynesville NC. - 04/06/10 01:44 AM
I was not aware until the other day that Ceviche’s on Main in Downtown Waynesville, NC, was open for breakfast, 7 days per week. My experiences (2) at Ceviche’s have been good (I tend to pick their Italian menu items which have been delicious), and I am looking forward to trying goodies from their breakfast menu soon.
Breakfast with free WiFi sounds good to me!

buckingtherealestatetrendcom: Haywood County, NC - 5-Year [YTD] Land Sales Comparison - As of March 29 2010. - 04/06/10 01:26 AM
Maggie Valley, Waynesville and all of Haywood County NC land sales are not unlike home sales … slow, down from the same period last year, and lower than in the previous 5 years. The selling $ volume, obviously, is down drastically.
While a significant increase in land sales could reflect that the market has ‘turned,’ we have a 3-year inventory of homes already on the market to sell.

buckingtherealestatetrendcom: Frog Level in Waynesville NC Is A Little Old, A Little New, and A Little Industrial. - 04/01/10 09:53 PM

Last week I spent a few hours in the Frog Level area of Waynesville while I was waiting to have my oil changed. The oil change was the perfect excuse to have coffee again at Panacea Coffeehouse, and to walk the downtown streets without worrying about slipping on ice for a change.

Enjoyed meeting a few friends at Smackers Sports Grill, well known as a great place to eat (fried pickles!) in Waynesville. Smackers Sports Grill is conveniently located, very reasonably priced, easy to find, is situated right between Waynesville and Maggie Valley on Dellwood Road, and is a local favorite (with beer!).

buckingtherealestatetrendcom: Too Bad I Didn't Have Any Chocolate Sauce in My Maggie Valley Cabin! - 02/15/10 02:48 AM
The fresh snowfall Friday afternoon in Maggie Valley was so light and perfect that I really did look around my little Maggie Valley cabin for something I could make into chocolate sauce to pour on this bowl of snow.
No chocolate sauce was found, but that Kahula and cream mixture wasn't bad!

buckingtherealestatetrendcom: Shocking! A Home Under Construction in Maggie Valley, NC. - 02/07/10 07:53 AM

It was shocking to see this home under construction in Maggie Valley! Long time no see construction. I noticed it Friday evening, down close to the Ghost Town in the Sky end of town. Progress I am sure has been hampered with all the snow, ice and rain we have had here in Maggie Valley, but it is nice to see something new being built.
Ironically, a couple of hours after I took this photo Friday afternoon, there was a "massive landslide" on Rich Cove Road just across Soco Road from this home, displacing at least 4 homes and quite … (5 comments)

Maggie Valley Club Cottage by Susie Blackmon
As I was driving by the Maggie Valley Club and its snow-covered golf course the other day, on Moody Farm Road, I noticed how naked the beautiful mountain homes at the top of the mountains were, even without a telephoto lens. The homes are way off in the distance in the first photo.

The photo below is a 'close up,' relative speaking, of the homes on the mountain above the Maggie Valley Golf Club course.
